  1. What a laugh civ v - it cant touch the older civ III ... Civ V might look nice but gameplay wise I hear time and again that earlier versions are better. The moral dont sacrifice the game in the name of high tech !!!!
  2. If there's one thing I learned its pointless suggesting how to improve sl...lindens simply dont take any notice and dont tackle what needs to be tackled.. At one time lindens frequently bombarded all customers with questionairres.. I dont know why - they never took any notice...and I think the fact that they seem to have stopped now is conclusive proof that 'talking' to your customers was merely a cosmetic exercise. The things sl really need to improve it are patently obvious to any long term user. Unfortunately Linden labs keep introducing tosh we dont need and it seems to screw up the system a little more each time some 'brainwave ' is introduced. I dont bother now I stopped paying my membership and rent land instead. Lindens are getting some money out of myself and my sl partner but not nearly so much as they used to. I had 90 quid screwed out of me last year during the pathfinder introduction debacle by Lindens and wont forget that in a hurry - or the fact that Lindens can cut the service for any length of time or any reason and still expect you to pay the full amount - because the holy TOS says so ! They do nothing to show appreciation of the long term core of enthusiasts who keep sl going. They throw feeble 'freebies' which are usless to any long term customer. Unfortunately a few rave over these 'baubles' theyd probably be thrilled if lindens gave out free prim dog poop......
  3. Oh same speed as me- I dont have a clue what youre on about talking about government mandated rubbish from ...the government has nothing to do with my internet speed...... By the way Im not a Brit - Im English.......
  4. A browse through the forum suggests youre not entriely right about the nearest server but even then arizona > california its hardly a vast trench.....and Id say the reason your service is better.....People keep saying that the problems down to the servers (I hear it in certain viewer groups often enough) Something Lindens ought to look into at least. Not that youd be bothered your service is fine - screw everyone else eh ??
  5. No wonder you get a good service youre in California right on top of Linden labs....Christ if you cant get a good service being on their doorstep no one can.....
  6. I dont hate second life I love it - I just hate the nicompoops who 'run it' (I use the term very loosely) and the lick spittles who grovel and hinder any attempt to get an improved service, a better deal for users and the stuff sl really needs such as a reinvigorated and non stagnant in world building system etc.... And if you are not experiencing lag and a worse quality of service despite using the same equipment you're a very rare and lucky individual -and naturally we'll just take your word that youre telling the truth of course. As for the boldface well thats down to my shortsight I wish everyone typed in bold face - even you...
  7. Remember last year when sl was so screwed it was bombarding people with superfluous data and sending their usage shooting through the ceiling ...sl admitted it was their fault but covered their backsides by quoting their good old TOS.. and just like this thread people were blaming users..even though lindens had admitted that error was their fault.... so take no notice of people who can simply dismiss you as one person has by saying its your fault... ...of course complaining to linden labs will not get you anywhere....
  8. Youre spot on the lag has become appalling...not just lag but complete lock ups of sl. Crashes must be at an all time high in my 5 year existence in sl too. It hasnt been this bad for years. Personally Id say that pathfinding rubbish and mesh have gone a long way to cocking up an already underpowered and out of date computer network.... Unfortunately for the most part the only people left on this forum are those who would never admit to sl running down.. Im sure theyre lindens in disguise or paid by lindens Anyone critical of sl or Linden labs for the most part on this forum can only expect for the most part the wrath of the 'brown nosers'
  9. Mesh is a complete dead end for anyone who enjoys in world building ...it's lead to the stagnation of the building system which has seen no improvements for years. Ive been trying my hand a mesh simply trying to make shapes that would be feasible in sl with a few modifications - being able to hollow to 99% instead of the current 95% for example. 12 lindens to upload a simple ring 60 meters across ( I wanted a 120 metre hull for my latest space station the piece shrunk on importing), it wouldnt upload correctly I still need to work on a uv map to texture it oh and and its a single item but the equivalent of 52 prims lol... Sketchup just doesnt respond the way Id expect and if I'm learning blender I might as well go back to university and study computer aided design.... Well done to the people who pushed for mesh..you've taken the onus away from lindens to provide anything in the way of new features to the inworld building menu... Some people might be happy staring at something like blender for hours, me I want to 'play' in sl, I want to put on a space suit to build my space stations in world and actually be able to walk round inside my build without paying anything extra - especially for untested imported pieces which dont do the job. Linden labs must love mesh I wonder how much money they make from people uploading especially if they have to upload several pieces to get the right piece. Not to mention the fact these mesh items must boost the prim count....
  10. I'm really baffled as to why some people feel this overwhelming desire to protect a big greedy company like lindens when what they need is a good kick up the backside which makes em look at whats going on in world, how much it costs etc etc.... conditions in sl are nowhere near as good as they were - lag's apalling, tp failures are abysmal crashes are worse than ever.. Problems that were supposed to have been rectified havent ( border crossing is the most obvious example) and each new little technical whiz lindens add just screws things up a tad more. All topped off with a customer service headed by a few rude and useless indivuals those who are just to willing to quote tos even when a problem is one they generated and who like the late little lamented oskar linden felt that you ought to go down on bended knee because youre lucky enough ot be using sl - even if you are paying their wages. I dont pay a membership fee anymore - if sl can keep loosing paying members because it chooses to believe a few forum regs good luck to it....
  11. Stull running ?..Is that sort of almost running but only just .. normally I wouldn't go picking on typos but I think anyone declaring anyone else to be brain dead has to be so careful about what and how they type
  12. we all know what TOS stands for Totally One Sided Basically its just a set of rules that allows Lindens to dodge recompensing people its screwed around......
  13. He didnt state the obvious which is that Lindens charges way too much for use of its world, does nothing to recompense customers who have been totally inconvenienced by bungles it admitted were its fault but used its weasley worded tos to dodge any responsibility for....in fact has no grasp of quality customer service at all or even who its main customers are. As for sl being dead - well look how much of the map is yellow and tot up how many people you see during an evening random exploring. No point pointing it out though anyone should know that the people at Lindens dont take any notice of its customer base and the guy in charge is intent on using sl to satisfy his own agenda... As usual though someone says sl dead and the equally pigheaded 'no it isnt -such and such said it was dead in 2006 - blah blah blah' brigade... who cant even conceive that things need to be changed to give sl a much need shot in the arm (and win back former members who cancelled membership payments after several years of avidly supporting sl ) start crawling out of the woodwork......
  14. Im sure all these words from NON-LINDENS are very comforting but you'd think a linden would take a few minutes to check this story out and come and issue a strong denial that it could ever happen or re-iterate the circumstances in which it might happen.....
  15. I wonder how much all this technical blah appeals to ordinary sl users who maybe want to set up a little home, buy some cheap land, maybe explore a little without crashing every time they tp and without freezing every time they try to move and all at an exorbitant cost. What we need to see is an improvement in normal sl operation without the world becoming home to a mass of agendas for both elitist users and members of its own board.
  16. All I know is that since pathfinding was introducing the standard of 'gameplay' in sl - that is the everyday sl business of moving, exploring, tpping has plummeted and while all this 'new stuff' is introduced problems which people have complained about for years such as boundary crashes remain as bad as ever. Introduce new stuff when youve got the existing stuff running properly. The fiasco over increased gb usage when pathfinding was ntroduced was enough to demolish it in my opinion. Try tackling more important issues such as excessive tier fees before trying to sideline people with usless - yes useless - features which appeal to a few tech heads.....
  17. Good riddance theres a few more who could go with him...starting at the very top of the tree....
  18. The one person who wants the cattle prod at Lindens ( apart from the mysterious and nameless supervisor TJ Linden hides behind whenever I send him an email of complaint) is the CEO himself.... I dont recall a time in the last 5 years when the service in sl is as shoddy as it is now !!! And as one of your presidents once say in my opinion he needs a sign which says 'the buck stops here'
  19. Try asking em for recompense for the inconvenience...oh I forgot like all us other mugs you signed the TOS which practically means lindens can totally screw the service for ever and a day AND still expect your full tier....Ive been out of sl a month now and they still expect a full tier and membership too !! And the best of it is a bunch of a** lickers think its my fault that because lindens screwed their system ( and admitted it was their fault) that I went over my permitted gb usage.... 5 year with Lindens the majority of em paying full tier and membership... anyone remember the Tom and Jerry cartoons where the mouse fooled the cat and his head turned into a lollipop with 'sucker' written on it.....???
  20. Oh it will help because it makes me feel a lot better after 5 years paying a **bleep**ty company whove basically treated me like crap and in my book the ones who dont help are the useless sheep like you who seem to think a company can do what it wants because it has 'terms of service....'consumers dont stand a chance with some of the people on this forum....
  21. Terms of service...the only point of them is to ensure Lindens dont have to fork out any dosh to people theyve crapped on... I know first hand...theyve really DUMPED on me
  22. Project 2 - the mission - 'to make SL as inaccesible to as many users as possible and see how many of them still lick linden a**'....coming to a virtual world near you ¬!!!!
  23. Good riddance.... stand up and speak your minds disatisfied customers of Second Life its about time Lindens Research were made to see theyre totally in the wrong here - they've deprived some customers of a service, theyve even admitted its their fault but they still expect to be paid and anyone who thinks thats right and proper is short of a few marbles....
  24. As I said 'something' has screwed SL I was told it was down to pathfinding by the people in the firestorm group who Ive always assumed to have more technical know how than me so any 'accusations' have come via them...Even Lindens help desk accredited the problem to pathfinding so you can have a word with them about 'nasty accusations too. Ive also been in regions where pathfinding is turned off...no problem. And whatever the problem Lindens have taken responsibility... and in my book you must be nuts if you think a company can take responsibility for a major fault and then wriggle out of paying any sort of recompense to those inconvenienced by it - by virtue of some vague part of TOS which seems to give Lindens the right to claim that any length of period youre out of sl youre not going to get anything back. I dont know what sort of customer service you expect in the US but I expect something better over here in the UK and you having a go at people who stand up and complain rather than the people who caused the problem stinks !!
  25. The day I discovered this fault and asked what was happening in the Firestorm viewer group and someone who seemed to be in the know said they doubted Lindens would put the fault right on the mainland... Im beginning to concur with that suggestion. Oskar Linden cant even be bothered to answer those asking him about this quite politely.....
