  1. Something like this happened to me the other day but I was on Singularity. My lorikeet ran across my keyboard, tapping madly and managed to change resolution, make the viewer no longer in a window and the writing went like yours, with no background. I fixed the first two changes, but the third had me stumped. I finally logged of and played with the bird like he wanted me to. Hopefully when I log back in today it'll have miraculously fixed itself...I'd love to know what causes it.
  2. I first tried Firestorm when I heard about temp textures...of course this is no longer a reason to keep using it. I keep using it because of all the nifty little things I keep finding...many of which have already been mentioned. I recently tried the LL viewer on my main computer to check out materials - it was...not bad, really. It seemed to give me similar FPS, but it was just different from what I've become used to and missing a few features that make my Second Life easier. If I'd never tried Firestorm I'd have been happy enough with the LL viewer, but now I can't go back. Having said all that, I do use Singularity on my old Netbook. My poor little netbook barely meets minimum requirements for accessing SL, but when I'm on the road it means I can get business done. Singularity is about the only viewer that works well enough with it. I can't say I'd choose to use it if I had a choice, but I'm just thankful that it works so well on lower end machines. In the end, I think Firestorm's popular because those who use it love it and talk about it. Word of mouth is strong advertising, and most who end up trying it get hooked.
  3. BTW - if it's still not solved, check out this thread for ideas: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Merchants/Merchant-Outbox-keeps-telling-me-to-create-a-store/m-p/1664967/highlight/true
  4. I had 2-3 weeks of extremely low sales (down to about a third of my normal income this time of year). However last week picked up and was significantly better than normal. *shrugs* I guess over a month or two these things even out, so I'm expecting a fairly average summer sales.
  5. I'm pretty sure you can't "create a new store" if you already have one, even if the merchant outbox isn't recognizing it. Some threads suggest trying logging out of SL and using a web browser to log out of the Market Place. Restart the browser and login on the Market Place. Then login with the viewer. Others suggest trying to change the language in your browser and then changing it back to English. Submitting a ticket seems to be the likely option if you've tried everything on the page you mentioned, and in the midst of the changeover from boxes to marketplace they were quick to get onto issues around this. Sorry to hear that their support's getting lax again if its been nearly a week since you submitted a ticket.
  6. Mine looks normal. Have the listings gone inactive or been deleted completely?
  7. The last two weeks have been slow for me...especially in the marketplace (this includes freebie and demo sales). Inworld sales are up though. I suspect that recent changes have put people off the marketplace, and some will find their way inworld if they really want something. I am in the clothing/av trade, and I know I get a bit of a dip for the Northern Summer, but this is a significant "not bad one week/pretty sorry the next" type dip. That's my interpretation so far...but then I periodically have inexplicable drops for 2 weeks or so, and then my marketplace sales go back to normal. It could be that one of my regular drops in sales has coincided with marketplace nonsense.
  8. A couple of months ago I tried to bulk edit the product categories of a pile of listings...it was a no go. It appeared to take them out of all categories and told me told me they couldn't be listed. I panicked, but fortunately they all seemed in their original categories and still listed despite what it said. So then I had to go through and change 100 products categories one by one. Gah! I'm pretty sure changing my landmarks worked properly though, last year when I moved my store.
  9. So far I'm seeing emails come through that don't appear on my transaction history for demos and freebies only, so fortunately I haven't missed payments...but I worry that it's only a matter of time. I've only noticed it in the past two or three days. Something seems to be up with the marketplace, so keep an eye out.
  10. Hi all - I'm trying to find out if I'm the only one having issues with the bulk updating of marketplace categories for my items. I'm trying to get it all done while I'm on holidays and have the time, but it's slow going doing the edits item by item on my IPad. I've spent the last few hours working on my main store, but my alt's store is a cosmetics shop and nearly every item needs to be put in a new subcategory. Bulk editing would save HOURS of work! Is this problem only to do with being on an iPad, or are others experiencing it? I'll wait til I get home if it might work better on my PC.
  11. Yeah, they were on my neighbour's parcel the other day. Had affected quite a few of the businesses in our area and had spread over a few sims. I was alerted by another neighbour who had been ARing for a few days already. I added to the AR effort, and when I logged in again the following day it had been cleared up by LL. Hang in there...I know there's a fair bit of this group's grief going around - the incessant shouting is particularly annoying. Be clear and concise in your AR & get others to add weight to the ARs. I'll add to it if I can get in world soon. And keep reminding people to turn off rezzing & object entry to prevent this crap happening.
  12. I'd say Torley is the best example of a famous avatar I can think of. With those colours his av is always distinctive and I've heard he's back making videos again. Yay!
  13. Still on that train? I'm from sunny Queensland, Australia. I tried to join before my current avs rezday in October 2008, but my crappy laptop before that date wasn't up to the rigors of SL. When I started I just blundered about like all noobs do. Then one day I discovered my landlord building a lamppost. I just sat and watched him manipulate prims & put in an on/off switch...and I thought "cool - it's like Lego, but you can squish the shapes!" from then I was hooked. Whenever I manage to be on now I'm always making stuff for my shop. Maybe this year I might try to advertise a bit more...but probably not - I like creating too much!
  14. Up to L$9 there is no commission taken. If you charge 10, they'll take 1 as commission .
  15. Thanks for letting us know...I woke up to an email saying a pile of things had been returned to me.Fortunately it's only my alt's small store and not my main store...so I guess it could have been worse. Wished I'd checked whether the parcel was on a RC Channel when I bought it. You never know about these little issues until too late.
  16. I'm on the latest firestorm...but my little laptop that I use when I'm out & about is very basic (sometimes I'm amazed I can get on at all to get some work done!) I keep most of the graphics pulled back so i can work. Guess I'll need to try again with shadows & lighting enabled as well as bump mapping & shiny & see if that solves it.
  17. Found an answer to my own question! :matte-motes-sour: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-28461 (didn't think we could still find JIRAS)
  18. Hi all - thought I'd turn to the collective wisdom, since I'm not sure if the problem is my crappy computer. I have a rigged mesh that I'm wanting to use bump mapping on. It looks fine when rezzed on the ground, but as soon as it's worn, it looks flat as a pancake. Is there a known issue, or is it just my outdated computer? The problem seems to happen with shiny as well, now that I've tested that too.
  19. Bugger - where'd that extra 0 come from? Wishful thinking on my part...or more sleep needed. Thanks for linking that other thread - I'd missed it. Not going to be happy if I get charged for enhancements that I'd tried to cancel.
  20. It seems that a lot of the bloggers etc are really hooked on mesh, so us smaller stores who are holding off until the deformer comes in are feeling a bit "second best" for not going mesh. It's lovely to hear that there are still those out there who want good non-mesh clothing :cathappy: I don't think I'm alone in being a designer that's only dabbling in mesh in a small way - mostly with templates while I slog through the steep blender learning curve and wait for the deformer. Sales of my non-mesh clothing by far outweighs the few mesh pieces I have. In fact, for mesh it's mostly the partial mesh skirts (replacing the "crothch flap prim") that sell - everything else for me is system, prims and sculpties.
  21. Something is definitely up with listing enhancements at the moment, conspiracy theory or not... Looking at this thread made me check out the ones that I'd taken out in the last month or so. I'd taken out three different, short term ones. None of them were getting any significant click-thrus listed, so I'd gone in to change them to "will not renew". At least two of those three enhancements should have terminated a week or two ago. But looking at the listing enhancement performance page now, all three are listed as "active" . Apparently all three are still getting daily views in the 1000s, but very few click-thrus. When I go to back to that section, I do eventually see the listing that I had under "Complete Anime Avatars" (it was the oldest of the three), but not in the more numerous fashion sections (the newer listings). I am wondering that if none of the enhancements are terminating, then there's a huge load of enhancements in some of the more popular sections, and less likelyhood of the odd one being seen. Maybe only the older ads are making it in there, and the newer enhancements never do. *SIGH*
  22. Throw into the mix the 'mesh deformer' project. Existing mesh clothing will not work with the deformer (or so I've been led to believe). So while I'm working to learn mesh and will put out mesh clothing in the future, spending many hours to create and upload something that could be defunct in (say) a month is unappealing.
  23. It could also be related to this JIRA... https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SH-2497
  24. I started a similar thread yesterday over at the merchants' forum... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Merchants/Marketplace-issues-when-not-signed-in/td-p/1636881 I was pointed to a JIRA that was (just this morning) marked as resolved. Hopefully you won't have more issues. However...it seems now others are having issues signing in. It might have just been while they were fixing the other problem. Fingers crossed it now works :catwink:
