  1. a communication system per se dont violate the rights that the user have, what is transmitted thru it does, if its against the TOS, like transmitting false information, so the person transmitting should be Abuse Reported. now, if the administrator of the system support the abuse, and is aware of the abuse, by interacting with you and confirm that you are a not a bot, then he is maliciously interfiring with a user enjoyment of the service, and therefore, violating TOS 6.2. if the administrator of the system don't clear the situation, you can Abuse Report him/her for violating the TOS, and let Linden Lab handle the situation. in the Abuse Report be sure to mention the sections of the TOS violated at first, and explain the situation as you go on.
  2. you dont believe that the mind is immaterial? you dont believe that we have different personalities? you dont believe that our different personalities are caused by our minds, which are created by our brain? if the required elements to fit a definition exist, than the defined object exists.
  3. i read all the posts. sometimes science doesnt measure directly an existence, it measure it based on the results, the definition states that can be an immaterial essence, an actuating cause of an individual life. it would mean that what drives our toughts in our mind, being the mind immaterial, could be our soul, maybe our soul is a brain process derived from life itself. it fits the definition without going into the mystical. if that is what soul is, a brain process, then the brain takes most of the credit for the soul existence, for the ability to create individual thoughts in the lifeforms that have that capability, the brain is indeed a very powerful tool.
  4. the proof can be simply in the definition of the word soul. Merriam-Webster: the immaterial essence, animating principle, or actuating cause of an individual life. by this definition, the vast majority of lifeforms have a soul.
  5. this remember me of the JLU, and RedZone, they give the service of an internal net between various land owners, if a griefer was identified in one land, the other landowners will be protected from such griefer, it sounds like a good system to preserve the places in good conditions for visitors to arrive, it seems a good solution. while the intention of the security system is not to treat a non-griefer like one, mistakes can be made, and technically yes, that would be unintentionally a violation, we have to consider that mistakes happen in sl, we may identify someone as someone else and say that is another person, if someone who do that would get banned from Second Life, we wouldn't have much residents, we all make mistakes. about the effect that that cause on the user, limiting its exploring abilities, i wouldn't say that it is maliciously disrupting the enyoment of the service, if it were so, every land that doesn't allow everyone to go in, would be in violation of 6.2, because it would impede the user from standing foot on all the land in Second Life. now, the reason you are mention it its because of its cons, since a land owner can ban anyone for whatever reason, for example, for wearing a green shirt, they are used to not care of the luck of the banned user, and for no reason add the user in the banning of all lands as a griefer, since they are not hold accountable for their resons for banning, someone can add to that system all users that start with the letter a, that makes this system a way for landowners to violate 6.1 unknowingly, and if its done maliciously, just to have fun adding random people to the system, it would be violating 6.2. this security system can be abused, is not in its nature to violate the TOS, so i could say that the system is not violating the TOS, some of its users do, and those users who maliciously transmit defamatory, libelous, false, innacurate, misleading information of others thru the system, should be Abuse Reported to Linden Lab.
  6. the direction that technology is going is to give us information and freedom, they dont want us to be blocked from real life, they know the inconvenience of having to stay in one place to access information like desktop computers, or having to look to a small screen to obtain information, they want us to be free to walk around and do things in rl and recieve information that we want with minimal interruption, Google Glass and Microsoft HoloLens are taking the burden out of our hands and having to get distracted from real life to access information, they are bringing virtual reality to real life, they are liberating us from the screen (in a way, because the lenses have screens themselves), allowing us to have a real life less interrupted than looking at a small screen on our hands, maybe the goal is to deliver information directly in our brains with minimal intrusion to our bodies, technology don't want to block us from real life, they want to liberate us to work well in real life, and still have access to information. today people knows what is virtual and what is not because of the physical indications, for example they know there is a flat squared screen in front of them displaying the objects, or that there is an object on their heads, in the future, there might not be those indications, but by that time, i think that they will adapt to know the difference as technology evolves, maybe a few will have trouble knowing the difference, but the people that are used to it will not get confused. the balance between virtual and real will be decided by the users, maybe some will abuse the system and prefer virtual over real, but our physical bodies will make them go back to reality, by being hungry for example, personally, i enjoy the benefits of virtuality, i accept it in any way as long as it doesnt interrupt my real life functions.
  7. you can not share IM without the consent of all participants of the message, but you can warn your friends about what happened.
  8. maybe you have your house on your picks, or the group you are renting from, visible in your profile. he must have seen in your profile where you live. if you blacklisted him, then there's probably no danger that he will enter, you can mute this person also, if the interaction bothers you.
  9. Blue, most of the time, it seems pacific, endless, like the sky or the sea ( i am aware that the sky sometimes turn orange and the sea has some of green, but i mean how it looks like when its blue.), it seems healing, fresh, calm, safe.
  10. maybe the facial expressions you heard was with the project of High Fidelity, something that the creator of Second Life, Phillip Rosedale, has been working on, here is an example: it is unknown how much of High Fidelity will be included in Sansar, if the technlogies seem beneficial to Sansar, they might be included.
  11. you have to be careful in finding what you want to find, if we really want to find something supernatural we are gonna assign different events in our lifetime to what we are looking for, for example if i want to believe that i am very lucky, i would count all casualities and claim that they are related, and minor things that lean to prove my theory im gonna claim them as definitve clues to my objective, and the things that dont fit with my theory i could ignore, so i would have ensurance that my theory is true. if you use the scientific method, you would not start with the results, you start with the evidence, after formulating an hypothesis, you start to experiment, if no results were found, you change the hypothesis, maybe you haven't found souls because there arent any, so maybe you need to rethink your hypothesis to one without the souls you are looking for. you have to be aware that you might be wrong, maybe what you are looking for doesn't exist, its a risk you have to take when looking for a truth, maybe at the end is opposite of what you wished it was. you can also be hallucinating, that's another thing to consider, you need peer review to make sure that the visions are not in your head, and about the things that are in your head, your dreams, you can not relate them to the real world just like that, dreams are mostly composed of memories being rearranged, so if you have memories of reading about angels and think are great, you may dream about them because you give them a lot of importance in your mind, is not that the angels appeared in your brain and they have a realtion with real life, is that real life influenced your brain and thats why you dream about it. another thing you need to be careful of is pride. many people that have theories about a certain type of people that are superior to others, in their scale they are on the best side. usually racists believe that they are the superior race, some that believed in a doctirne that 144,000 are gonna be saved, they believe they are in the winning side. maybe you are not part of the best souls in your theory. now, about your beliefs, you have to be careful on believing something without enough evidence, if you dont have enough proof, you can claim it as, "very possible", "somewhat possible", "very unlikely", not claim directly something as a fact because you wish it was. as long as your theory dont have solid background, you must observe it as how much likely it is. your research doesnt need a god, the existence of gods are possibilities between many, i define a god as a person that have the power to change the laws of physics at will, the earth is not a person, its a group of particles sticking together being attracted more to the center of the earth based on their weight, the earth doesnt have the power to modify the laws of physics at will, the physics of the universe are the ones that modify the earth, therefore the earth cant be a god. the theory that if we uncover various temples left behind by various cultures will unite humanity needs more explanation, first, what do you mean by united? physically? ideologically? physically we cant be according to our ego, we identify our bodies as ourselves, everything else touching the body is not us, according to our ego, we can not be united physically, now if you call union that a group of objetcs share the same space, lets say all the particles in the universe, the objects of the universe are not united, because there is space between them, now, ideological unity is very unlikely, because we are who we are based on our lifetime experiences, the situations that we encounter and how we reason and react to them, since every life has diffierent experiences, its impossible that all humans think the same. you also need to make the connection between uncovering a number of temples and how that would affect the thoughts of all humans. be careful to not fall into traps in your quest for the truth, logic and reason are very useful tools, be prepared to find the unexpected even if its not convenient to you. the truth is not always fair.
  12. our lifetime experiences is what make us who we are, those experiences include what we percieve from electronic media, people were influenced by radio music and talk shows as they grew up, and later by television programs, that influence early in our lifetimes can not be ignored. we were raised by all those situations that happened around us, including our interaction with others and what we percieve from the media. her statements don't clearly say to me that she share the same account with her son, i understand that she let him use second life in order to play those games, and he is forbidden by his mother to go to an adult room. she plays in the same room that her son plays. not allowing your underage children to go to adult places is good parenting.
  13. since radio was invented, we were raised, partly, by electronics, then we watch television shows, then we play in consoles, now we use the internet, kids nowadays play computer games, and also play outside, both things can happen in a lifetime. nowhere it says she shared the same account, maybe her son had his own account, after all, teens can have an account and only go to G rated places.
  14. it makes sense that parents should try to give kids the best education possible according to their personalities and surroundings. different kids require different types of care, if parents are giving different education to their children than other parents, that doesn't mean that they are worst parents, it means that the circumstances of growth of their children are different.
  15. it's strange how some parents here are telling others how to be parents when they don't have to deal with the different personalities that kids have, the different lifestyle surrounding them, and they look down on other parents like if they were perfect parents, i bet some of those "perfect parents" kids are gonna end up doing drugs or in jail and blame it back on their parents. the truth is that nobody is an expert parent, everybody mess up once in a while, and as a result, nobody raise the perfect humans. what parents can do, is to educate them according to their personalities and the world that surrounds them.
  16. not everyone can have a bank account for many reasons, some cant have a credit card because of the requirements of each country and each bank, and if they have a debit card, the card don't work internationally, that means that cant be used by Paypal or Skrill. 3rd party L$ sellers offer a wide variety of methods, for example national ones, even if your card don't work internationally, they sell you directly inside your country, they offer you exchange of prepaid cards value, if you brought an IMVU prepaid card, you could turn your IMVU money to lindens, Second Life doesn't offer prepaid cards internationally like Virgin, Facebook, Walmart, Spotify, iTunes. even if you buy a card that promise to work internationally like PaySafeCard, it doesnt do as promise because of laws and regulations of each country. all those options get lost with the loss of 3rd party L$ sellers.
  17. Those third party linden sellers help a lot of users, international users, that can't buy lindens because Linden Lab don't provide them with the means for them to spend their real money in support of the company. the third party sellers are channels in which international flow of income comes to Linden Lab, by blocking them, Linden Lab is cuttting its own income. unless they provide various alternatives for people to spend money in them, blocking third party sellers will just make the company worse, they need money, they don't need to decrease their resources.
  18. his intelligence to develop complex system is where I find his value. many of the projects he developed reached success, which means that his focus was in the right direction. I can not give you examples of succesful projects that he is working currently because probably he is working in none, he might be in a research stage. about his participation in The Alphaville Herald, he may have contributed in some interesting articles, maybe bring to the public view some perspectives about this world (that is appreciated from various journalists), but i don't consider vital to the development of the world that source of information that can be obtained somewhere else, i do consider beneficial that the users would know what is happening inside the company that provides them the service, but not vital, a company can develop without giving information to the public about its internal procedures. about the juvenile griefing that you were a victim of, i consider that no one should be a victim of griefing, and if Linden Lab acted upon his griefing and is the reason that he has been banned, i applaud Linden Lab for addressing the matter and let you enjoy Second Life as it was meant to be, following all its rules and making use of its potential. i'm glad that you have been protected and justice has been made.
  19. Brachiosaurus, those animals were spectacular to see.
  20. If we are referring to his intellectual capacity, his potential, his genius mind, then yes, Second Life has lost an immensely valuable asset, his deep knowledge could have helped the development of this world like no one else. He is currently working in Duke University in the Office of Information Technology, hopefully, he is still here using an alt account, or he will come back and reactivate his account. he was interested in this world for a long time, maybe because of its potential and seeing his technological aim being used in such a unique form. I could say he is one of the most intelligent users Second Life has ever had. The Alphaville Herald was an entertaining tabloid to read, I admit that much effort was made in keeping it going, but I don't consider it vital to the development of Second Life, it is sad that it's gone, there are not many SL Magazines like it, I hope that some other creative users would bring another magazine fun to read as it was The Alphaville Herald.
  21. I agree, nothing of value was lost if we are referring to The Alphaville Herald, that organ was a SL tabloid not intended to be taken seriously, maybe many had a chuckle reading it. Many other tabloids can come, maybe using satire, if some SL users have the intention and creativity to bring humorous content in a regular basis.
  22. His value is that he can write good and interesting programming languages, so much so that he collaborated in bringing us the fundations of the World Wide Web, and the first succesful attempt to transfer a 3D environment thru the internet. I find that knowledge more valuable globally, than writing good English, because you can write many useless things in perfect English.
  23. I guess when people lose someone as Mark P. McCahill, a genius developer, an architect of 3D learning and collaborative systems, they could say that nothing of value was lost.
  24. people who like to create and customize their environments, that have an idea of how they want their environment to look like, that go shopping buying different types of furniture would opt for the 4 walls and a bedroom with the chance of manipulating many objects as they see fit. people that don't want to put an effort in designing their enviroments would prefer a nice looking ready made environment, and maybe some free prims allowed to unpack things or rez a few things. now which one of those would be more popular? what kind of people are the majority in SL? the creators or the people who just enjoy the work of the creators? i would like to believe that the majority of SL users are creators, after all, it is one of the original intentions of SL, but many users come to SL and see it as a videogame, a place where they can explore places, do activities like flying on a plane, try fashion, they enjoy what is already made. since SL is not mainly promoted as a creation tool, is more promoted as a place to have fun with with your firends, it would attract people that have those intentions, besides, creating requires a learning, dedication of time, developing of precision, people that just come for the fun would not lean so much to learning a job. so i would say that people that would like to rent your apartment complex with everything, are the majority. who are the ones who have more money in SL? probably creators, store owners, club owners, and anyone who has a business here, and of course the ones who buy lindens. for the price you offer, I would say that catering to creators, people who like to move everything around, and are most probable to have an income source, is the smartest decision. now, if you are going to offer something very basic, you could make it look nice enough, or you can go middle ground, a nice house, with about 100 prims free. personally, i would choose the place with more prims available. one thing to be aware of, since creativity and skills varies from user to user, if you rent land giving freedom of creation, expect to have a very varied landscape, from beautiful to ugly, to many design styles, it all depends of the mind of the tenant.
