  1. a divided user base is not so senseless idea, Linden Lab has somehow been dividing its users in separate worlds, Sansar will atract consumers that have a different focus than many SL users, that have multiple interests when they log in SL, probably creators would be more atracted to use Sansar, or, if Sansar would be so visually appealing as the screenshots show, it would attract artists. with BlocksWorld, the aim has been to cater to people with low processors, maybe some users that want to play with their creativity, in a not so serious level, maybe socialize and have fun, maybe casual players, that just want a moment of entertainment. Linden Lab is providing server power to those separate worlds, I assume they don't need very capable servers to run BlocksWorld, as much as they need server power to run Sansar. they are dividing the user base according to their focus, and it seems to me a smart decision, providing different worlds to people with different expectatives, that's why dividing Second Life, in terms of capabilities, would be factible. the division is already here, in my view, it should have happened a long time ago, to keep the product of Second Life fresh, like the launch of BlocksWorld and Sansar has been, and to get rid of stigmas of the past. Second Life could have chosen the path of reneweing and relaunching the product from time to time, and maybe Second Life would have reached a higher level of success. analyzing the state of Second Life, and seeing it from different scenarios, will make us have a clear idea of what we have. well, it was some food for thought, that maybe could help to prevent further obstacles.
  2. maybe different virtual worlds aimed at different audiences with different hardware requirements would do, keeping those worlds transforming thru time, without sacrificing what makes them stay.
  3. mmm.. high end computers would be needed to cater to low end computers.
  4. the constant change is one of the attractions to this world, is one of the features that captivate me about Second Life. was proposing the idea thinking of the ones left behind, all of those that have died because of progress, to have a place to still live, a place to exist. and also, to change the view of Second Life, Second Life could have been much more capable if it wouldn't to worry about catering to old hardware, it may be as impressive as Sansar, but the progress has been constrained by compatibility. if the versions of Second Life would be called something else, would it be alright? Linden Lab having multiple virtual worlds as products, some that require less hardware, to cater to the weak computers user base, Second Life, and something like Sansar, that make use of the newest hardware.
  5. there is a world for every taste, like IMVU, There, Second Life. it would be nice if we could all share together.
  6. I understand what the division would mean, but do you really want to lose friends that don't have the hardware enough to keep up with the latest changes? I read comments from all around the world that they are being forced to leave Second Life, that they have better priorities in life than buying a new computer, that what they earned in Second Life help them pay the bills. wouldn't it be nice that they could stay in a world that their computers can handle, and you could still go and visit them?
  7. Linden Lab has been losing users because a) they don't have means to buy new hardware to support new features, so their only choice is to stop being a client to Linden Lab, I have read many comments about people that were renting land from the lab, but due to some changes, they are unable to continue supporting the Lab, and b) they come, see that is a software that has traits of an old game and go find something more modern. nobody is going to force a merchant to have a store in every version, or to have a store at all, they could just have one branch in the versions they are interested. when they buy new hardware I suppose they don't donate the old computers, they could use them because they spend less power, or the new ones could easely run a version of secopnd life without scuplties. Imagine if Photoshop would be at the base the first version of Photoshop with a lot of updates and upgrades to make it feel more modern, it wouldn't be able to compete with software that is being coded at its root with modern instructions, a problem that Second Life has is that it is at its core a software from 2003 with a lot of updates, like with Sansar, sometimes you have to start fresh.
  8. maybe if the separation between versions would be more separated in time, it could work? like every 5 years a new version? a computer you buy now would guarantee to show Second Life at its best for 5 years. we can leave behind users happy in their only-prims world with no windlight, while we enjoy the latest tech that Linden Lab is working on.
What type of problem are you having? (que tipo de problema tienes)" escojes "account Issue (problema con la cuenta)", en la siguiente seccion escojes "I believe my account has been compromised (creo que mi cuenta ha sido comprometida)", en las siguientes secciones llenaras estos datos: "What Avatar do you believe has been compromised? (¿Cual avatar crees que ha sido comprometido?)" escribes el nombre del avatar que ha sido hackeado, "If there was a specific time in which you believe your account was compromised, please indicate it. (si hay una tiempo especifico en el que crees que tu cuenta fue comprometida, por favor indicanoslo)" escribe lo mas cerca que recuerdes la fecha que tu avatar fue hackeado. "* Please describe the issue.
  11. maybe the world would look less empty if it wasn't so big, was thinking in smaller land area per version, current land area is big enough to hold old users and new users, the emptiness that we have is because of lack of interest of the media to promote Second Life. imagine if in the news something comes up saying that Second Life is working in the new version, 2017, showing in E3, with the look that current hardware allows, maybe looking like Sansar, without the problems of the previous versions, like the different versions of Microsoft Windows, people would come to try it. a problem I see in the press is that if they talk about a product made in 2003, that wouldn't be news, they are more focused in what is coming next, bringing something new to the readers. maybe the focus in events would be more in the latests versions, where everybody would have a more realistic experience, and yeah, the events hold in version 1 would be more empty. maybe Linden Lab would discontinue support for earlier version like Microsoft ended support for Windows XP. if Second Life was divided by versions, everybody would have a fast experience, low end computers would run Second Life 2003 fast, and current computers would run the latest version very fast, maybe around 60 fps.
  12. I have thought of that, the population would be fragmented, some users would have accounts in Second Life 2003, 2007, 2010, and 2016, some people would have stay just in Second Life 2005, some would have stores in all versions, some in just the latest version. the sum of all users of various versions would make the whole Second Life population, and each version would be adding income to Linden Lab. I thought of that because some people complain that they are being left behind and without possibility to access Second Life anymore because new changes, and some people complain that Second Life looks outdated, because Linden Lab has to stretch out to make Second Life work on the oldest hardware. Linden Lab could use low end servers to keep Second Life 2003 running, with only prims and without windlight, and dedicate the most powerful ones to run Second Life 2016. some may be happy not being in the latest version, just using Second Life 2010, when they buy a new computer they will consider opening an account to Second Life 2016. inventory: like different version of Photoshop, Microsoft Office, you may be able to transfer old inventory items to the latest version of SL, but the new items wouldn't be backwards compatible. if we would have a revamp in newest versions, we could have had more detailed system avatars per version, and some features that make use of the new hardware without causing disruption to old viewers.
  13. many games in the industry, including many types of software, are divided by versions, some are divided by year, Second Life has been the same product since its inception, it has been transforming to bring more features, new viewers to access the same world, should have Second Life be divided by versions, accesing different worlds per version? let's say Second Life without scuplties would have been one version, that world would be easy to handle by low end computers, if some residents wanted to stay in that world they could, it would run fast, but wouldn't look so pretty, another world/version would be with sculpties, without mesh, some computers would find it easy to handle, and for the people that didn't like mesh they could have stay in that version of Second Life, today's version, with many special effects on textures, lighting, mesh, new bones, would be for new computers that can handle it all, each version would have a minimum computing requirements. like Microsoft Office, Battlefield, FIFA games, in each version they felt refreshed, and the ones that have computers that coulnd't handle the new versions they could stay using their favorite one, if Second Life would have been divided by versions, it wouldn't have been necessary to stop new features because it wouldn't have been compatible with old hardware, the people with old hardware maybe would have been happy to access only, let's say, Second Life 2008, while the ones with the latests hardware would happily be accesing Second Life 2016, with features exclusive to run in the newest hardware, let's say DirectX12, taking out features that wouldn't work with computers older than 2013. instead of the same product extending itself to work on old computers and new computers, should Second Life have been divided by versions, different worlds for each version, where everybody would access the world that their computers can handle?
  14. I am glad the she find joy in sharing with us this vast virtual world in which all find entertainment, solace, and find interesting. She will be missed and remembered by those friends she made in life that have the blessing to have have shared those special moments with her. She left her legacy for others to enjoy for many times to come, I hope that all of us can say the same when is our time to depart. Wishing sincerely that all her loved ones find the strenght and solace to continue remembering her as the good person that she was, and be able to celebrate having the opportunity to share their lives with her. Rest in peace Karen / Taran Spiritweaver / Amaranath Summerset, you will be remembered fondly with love.
  15. 2 things that I think changed the dynamic of the previous GD are the format of it, the topics got very scattered in sub sections, "relationships", "games", "fashion", "make friends", before many topics got together in one single place, if somebody wanted to talk about fashion, people that were interested in SL games saw it too, the threads were appearing noticeably faster, it was harder to keep up with all that was happening in the forums, all people of many interests concentrated in a single place. since people with specific interest went to the sub forum they got attracted more to, visually, it looked like the new posts were slowing down. another thing is the format of the posts, before, we saw them in a tree structure, i recognize the inconvenience we had that when there were too many answers we saw the letters of the post going vertically on the edge of the screen, but it was easier to follow the different branches of the conversation, a new derail could be followed in one of the branches, a post could have more than 3 answers coming from it and make different topics from those new branches. from a single post many could be born. I don't know if its a good idea to have so many subforums, it makes is easier to find like minded people, without having to interact with people outside those interests, but it makes separations, if they would give us the chance to see the posts here in tree format, I would take it right away, forgiving the inconveniences of it. another thing, I think that many of us agree in many things about SL, like that land owners can ban people for no reason, that lag is bad, that people are still going to buy non mesh things and mesh looks great, after so many back and forth between all, from different backgrounds, we got to a common knowledge that we all agree, if we could bring RL topics here we would find more controversial topics, like the role of America in the world, religion, the worth of capitalism, and natural disasters happening around the world.
  16. every avatar has its different story, different adventures that it got involved in, it form different relationships, it has a different life, an old avatar has lived many things that the majority would never get to experience, it only can relate to other avatars that were there when times were different, before mesh, before viewer 2, before scultpies, back when we used to have last names, and a few could remember the time before free accounts and textures, all those transitions in life grants a hardened experience, a deep and unique knowledge, a more palpable sense of nostalgia, a bond between all accounts that survived throught it all. I wish I had come to Second Life earlier, and share the good times that others were blessed to live, to have experienced the Pioneer era, when creating was blossoming, defining the base of what we have now, when the world was less populated and practically everyone knew each other, when seeing a Linden was more common, and there was less griefing and no child avi discriminattion. I am glad tho that I started the time I did, didn't get the early beginning, but I got to see a world with viewer 1, with a separated teen grid, and before Firestorm.
  17. well, the prizes entice me to not participate in contributing ideas.. because if I do, a well known employee of Linden Lab, who actually have an alt here, will make sure to make some of my inventory things dissapear, and delete the last name of my account.
  18. times change, you either evolve or get extinct. some of us adapted and are still here, the ones unable to adapt disappeared. now, I miss the past too, and wish many times that things were the way they were in the good old days, I miss the people I knew, some disappeared without explanation, having me wonder what happened to them (did they got bored? did they got angry with Linden Lab? with someone in the forums? did they got tired with a group of people here in the forums? did they have an enemy that its purpose was to drive them away? did they die in rl?), I miss their interactions as only them could make (in fact, you are in some memorable interactions), we cannot go back in time. what we can do is to build a better future instead, hopefully more brilliant than the past was, if we could build something that we love so much, we can do it again and even better. we lost many, but new ones came that changed the landscape of the forums, this era is more peaceful and clean. we have focused more in helping people than being in war with each other, maybe you miss the action of war, but at that time, the peaceful didn't have a voice, they were driven away by the elite groups, who "own" this forum, there was no safety for the new ones, I think Rod Humble clean it up to give a better impression, but, in the process, he killed a great era. maybe you should see the beauty of what we have, and mourn less the beauty of something that is not gonna come back.
  19. if I would add more potential to SL it would be the capability of custom skeletons and pupeteer animations, that would give creators the potential to make more natural flowing animations, making the interaction with the world seem more natural. I would give it the possibility for more precision in speed of movement, like walking in different speeds, or driving a vehicle in gradual incremental of speed. that could make exploring and racing more fun or relaxing, going at our own pace. besides better shaped system avatars, I would add the posibility of hand and face expressions, I know that would require more computing power from the user, but it will unlock more probabilities. bendable objects, if an object physically interact with another, it has the possibility to bend it, a car crash may bend a certain part of the car, or a sofa may bend when you sit on it, and return gradually back to its original shape when you stand up. particles with physics, that could create rain that will not go thru objects, or snow, it could create waterfalls, smoke that moves when an avatar pass by, sparks that bounce on certain metals. integrated texture creating tools, it could include a board with different special effects, negative, adjustment of contrast, drawing, the possibility to create mipmaps in it, I know that uploading is a source of revenue for Linden Lab, but that was the original pupose of Second Life, a program that give you the tools to create almost anything you can think of, and see it work in a world, It would make more sense to me to charge taxes based on monetary transaction, instead of charging for any content that was not made with the integrated tools. integrated mesh tools, it doesn't have to be as complete as many mesh programs, just enough to bend and cut a certain object to create or modify a certain object, think of Google Sketchup, something simple like that. those ideas between many could raise the potential of Second Life.
  20. users are not the best choice to lead the company to a certain direction, because they lack information, an informed decision is always better, althought some minor decisions can be granted to the users to have more impact on them, they have years of experience using the product, some from earlier versions, their input should be valuable to where to mold the product, the users who most appreciate the product have that passion for it, and want it to succeed, some are very knowledgeable, in certain aspects of SL, they could be trusted to guide themselves as a democracy. the anti griefing method seems plausible, I like the detection system based on certain patterns, altought I would still grant the chance to appeal, some users are persuaded into griefing by experienced griefers, such as this case https://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussion-Forum/Tried-to-RP-think-I-might-have-griefed/m-p/2970867, some may unknowingly worn certain griefing items, it is important to preserve a system of appeal.
  21. for a Democracy, we would have to choose which person we would like as a candidate, my vote would be for Torley. if SL would be governed by the people, the people would decide which rules would apply. such as the price of tier, taxes on everything sold, the rights of the users, such as being banned unfairly, how the griefers would be handled depending on level of abuse and frequency of it, and how art and creativity should be encouraged and preserved.
  22. it usually happens when Linden Lab servers are having problems, try restarting your modem, turn it off for about 20 seconds then turn it on again. that may refresh the connection between Linden Lab and your modem.
  23. my resolution is to be more healthy, I'm gonna start some fitness routines from this website http://darebee.com/
