  1. I have a debit Mastercard and it works to buy lindens, debit Visa didn't work, if you are able to open a bank account and have a Mastercard it may work. otherwise i recommend you find a job, or make it your job to play the free games, you could be saving some money to buy expensive things.
  2. I would say is more liberal. conservative tries to retain old values, "everything was better in the old times", they try to keep an established lifestyle, liberals like progress, that society transforms constantly, they want to see what's the next difference in society is going to be, they take things that are illegal and turn them legal, in the same way, many second life users do things in SL that would be constrained in rl, they see themselves in this world with minimal rules, in comaprison with the rl environment, and transform in themselves what is illegal, or culturally constraint, into legal. they are willing to try new things, in that sense, SL people, mostly, they would be liberal.
  3. the purpose of humanity and all lifeforms is to continue the existence of the specie by leaving generations, to infinity if its possible (altought i don't think the purpose will be fulfilled, unless humanity finds a way to live in another solar system, after our sun dies), and in this purpose, is when love comes to play, it help our specie advance, by being attracted to whatever we need to survive, to our favorite foods, our favorite places, it give us a reason to continue living as much as we can, and romantic love give us a reason to leave a next generation, that's the purpose of life and love. happiness is a measuring tool that points out when ourselves are closer to an optimum state, our body use happiness as a reward to motivate us to continue the way we are going. we must also allow and accept fear and sorrow and anger, they are tools that warn us to separate ourselves from some things, and to defend ourselves. we must welcome all emotions, but we must strive to reach as much hapiness as we can, and care for our children so they can be healthy, fall in love, and continue with the purpose of life, to live eternally.
  4. I used to run Second Life with an Intel graphic card in an old laptop, not with all the Second Life graphics at max but it did, maybe if you download the graphic driver from here http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/highlights/graphics/4m you can run SL. the default drivers that Microsoft provides ( WDDM ) are very basic and not prepared for 3D, with the drivers provided by Intel you may be able to run SL.
  5. it seems Sansar will be a separate project from Second Life, some time ago Linden Lab decided that as a company they should have more than 1 product, so they decided to make different styles of games, probably Second Life will co exist with Sansar. many people have left Second Life without noticing Linden Lab, they may return some day and their account will be there, with all the things they collected at that time, Linden Lab don't close those accounts in favor for them, so they can continue from where they left. its true that it will be more useful if the names were divided in two strings of characters, we used to have them that way but Linden Lab decided that a single string would be better, I dont know why they decide that, I can see the inconvenience that you see, that potentially at some point in time, all usernames will be taken, and in short term, all possible word combinations can be taken. I was in favor of having two strings as a name, first name, last name, it allowed people to use the same name with the difference of last name, just like microsoft did when hotmail usernames got saturated, they created outlook so many usernames can be used again. hopefully, project Sansar will have 2 strings, and users would have the ability to have the same name as the first string, or last.
  6. I tried some debit card in Mexico and only Mastercard got accepted, Visa had difficulties, maybe they can change you the card to Mastercard and it will work.
  7. i agree, it bothers me too, i have a bookmark in my browser to General Discussions, i have to come here, log in, then click the bookmark to return to where i intended. which remembers me that the feature of remembering you so you dont have to log in again needs to be fixed too.
  8. I thought I read it somewhere, maybe some bugs can be features, being look at in another way. like invisiprims.
  9. the idea behind getting dropped into the blogs is that if there is an announcement by Linden Lab, you probably don't want to miss it, so they do you that extra favor to help you keep in touch with the latest Linden Lab announcements.
  10. i see my avatar as a character, as Shakespeare would see Romeo and Juliet, he decide what the characters will do based on their personalities, how they would react to certain situations, how they express themselves, the things they do is Shakespeare all the time, but he respect their personalities, respect those characters, and would never do something that they wouldn't do, in a way, they are their own lives, their backgrounds, their ideologies, they are individual persons on their own, Shakespeare is just giving them life and they react to the different scenarios that they get presented. an author of different characters should see his/her creattion like that, let them be themselves, just be the energy that give them life, just like J. K. Rowling know exactly how Harry Potter would react to different situations, and Stan Lee knows Spiderman so well that knows his fears, his joys, what it value most, and what is feeling at a certain moment. i see my avatar as an individual character, i respect his personality, as an author to a character, i sometimes dont agree with what he does, or the decisions it makes, just like many authors wouldnt agree with what a villain does. I feel i am just the source of life and let them be themselves. i think we feel that separation because the SL experience is so complete, with a body, a surrounding scene, events happening in real time, it has everything a character needs for development, it can be attractive to become immersive if one wish it so, Second Life is its own world, like the movie The Never Ending Story, is another place.
  11. the constant correctors are the ones who create political correctness. they point out that this is said wrong, this other thing is not said in the most perfect way, even little details that have nothing to do with the topic, like a typo, or they attack a minor part of the subject and make a scandal over it, a set of words that could be positioned in a better way becomes the discussion instead of the main idea... the constant desire to correct others take out the different possibilities, humor is not an option anymore because it may be offensive to people of certain cultures, the choices of expression gets more limited until political correctness is the only valid way. the self teaching method of political correctness drives the community to only express itself in the less offensive way, to evade retaliation from the correctors. creativity gets limited, humor becomes rare, and many side with the correctors, the winning team.
  12. It sounds fair. you can expect to be treated the way you treat others, a person who is disrespectful can not be worth of respect. a person who cant behave can not expect to be treated with good manners.
  13. her idea of how she can make SL better may not have been the best idea, but its the intention that counts, i hope that by today she may have modified her plan and not discouraged altogether from helping.
  14. i agree, it's bad enough that some people don't want to help, and worse that some people discourage the ones who try to help. officalnickiminaj came with the best intentions, with a giving heart, foreseeing a better future, and got bring down. i believe that people that wants to help like officalnickiminaj needs our support, because if we support her, it will be a step towards a better world.
  15. its worth going thru complexity to find the truth. you may find lots of pragmatic people in second life, that's why i don't recommend that you present yourself immediately as an angel, you may need to present evidence, since believing in angels require faith, a belief without evidence, you may be seen as a liar, and i dont think that thats your objective. in fact you may not claim at all that you are an angel, there is no need to in order to help people, maybe you expect that the image of angel would make people feel that you are sacred, but that would be boasting your intentions to help. Jeremiah 9:23 "Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches" - King James Bible its enough for me that you believe i am a second life user, since i have an account that can write in the forums of the website secondlife.com
  16. i hope too that the people s/he is trying to help would get benefits from the interaction. i wish most of the encounters s/he has really help people in need.
  17. it may have some beneficial properties, so it may have some backup evidence, i am willing to take the test today, probably my conclusion will reinforce your belief.
  18. i could, but faith requires granting crediblity to something as a choice, not because of a conclusion based on the evidence presented, is an unreasonable belief, a reasonable belief would be that the analysis of the evidence we have access to, points out to a certain undeniable conclusion, faith is to grant total credibility to something that doesn't have enough proof, because believing such thing would make us feel better.
  19. if you want to help people in second life go for it, but you don't need to claim that you are an angel, maybe you do it to create a certain feel of trust, of good intentions, you add some holiness aura to your intention to help so others trust you better, you may percieve angels like that according to your culture and how you would see an angel, but here we are a multi cultural community, multi beliefs, where angels may not be revered, respected, believed, and you portraying the image of an angel don't give the impression fo someone excellently good, it gives the impression of someone lying from the start, to people that don't believe in angels, or someone a bit crazy, a non trustable person, so the image you are trying to portray backfires. try to be more standard, multi cultural, instead of claiming to be character of a certain culture that inspires you with good thoughts, just say that you are a human with good intentions that would like to help if anyone wants some help in something.
  20. kudos to you for having the intention to help people, many users need it, as much as anyone can help them with, some may need more help than we can give them, but as long as you do what you can, that is what counts. don't get discouraged because of some opposing opinions, you have the spirit of help and there are people that need your help, so focus in them, here in this part of second life improvements has been made thru time, many people have found what they are looking for, an answer from technical to emotional, if you can bring an idea to improve the help, is welcomed. keep that helping spirit up, the people that need help will he grateful for that.
  21. I really hope that Linden Lab takes care of your case and ban, block or do anything they can to help you, no one deserve to be harrassed, another thing you can do is to call Linden Lab on the phone, sometimes abuse reports can take a long time to get read, because there might be other abuse reports before yours, and by using the phine you get an immediate response of what steps Linden Lab is gonna take next, a clarification of the situation. here are the phone numbers: 1 (415) 243-9000 Toll-Free (US/Canada) 800.294.1067 Long-Distance 703.286.6277 France: 0805.101.490 Germany: 0800.664.5510 Japan: 0066.33.132.830 Portugal: 800.814.450 Spain: 800.300.560 UK: 0800.048.4646
  22. it seems the basis of this apocalyptic scene is that when Sansar is complete, or whatever they are gonna call the new project at the end, Linden Lab is gonna focus more in promoting the new virtual world, to attract the media and specially creators, mesh artists and C++ coders, who with their practice and knowledge are going to do impresssive things since they don't need to learn something else, all the attention focused in the new product will diminish the attention in the old product, the people that don't want to move to the new product, because of familiarity, lack of computing power, nostalgia, loyalty, are gonna be exposed to the lack of resources, because many resources are gonna be shifted to the new product, and the griefers, who we have been having for a long time, are gonna use the lack of attention from Linden Lab to create havok, the old users who have something of value in Second Life are gonna find ways to defend themselves, like when they use RedZone, for every security measure, there is someone who figure out how to break it, and for every new attack, there is someone who figure out how to block it. this seems to be the basis of this scenario.
  23. maybe raiding is their objective and they do so with the tools provided by the software, i mention WOW as a software, like other games, that defines objectives for you, give you a prefabricated characters to choose from, without much customizations comparing to SL. WOW is like Zelda or Final Fantasy, you can travel the world and level up raiding items, WOW is basically a game, i would say that WOW users are gamers, Second Life users are something else.
  24. the SL community is very "human", this place of the internet is different from others in that it doesnt have a specific purpose, for example DevianArt is about displaying and admiring art, WOW is about being a character who follows objectives with the tools provided, Steam is about downloading and playing games, Second Life gives you the freedom to do what you like with minimum restrictions, it allows the user to express himself without constrains, they express their most human and profound wishes with their actions and their creations, having a luxury house in an island, a gothic castle, experimenting with prims, leading an organization, being an animal, a superhero, its a community that express itself in unbelievable ways, due to the possibility of anonymity and the lack of restrictions. Second Life people are also alternative thinking, the users that try it one day and leave can't really be counted as an essential part of the second life community, they saw the product, decided to not be part of it, and went elsewhere, those who decided to stay, even with the complexity of learning the viewer and rezzing and parcel restrictions, they have an open mind to find appreciation in this rare jewel of the internet, they could have stay in WOW and follow defined rules, but they preferred to stay in a place where "no rules" are in place, those people have a mind willing to accept the unexpected, willing to go thru the complexity in order to reach it, willing to be social oddballs by embracing a not so popular "hobby", in exhange of complete freedom of self expression. the SL community is strange, they have in common knowledge of prims, teleports, clubs, stores with expensive mesh creations (even if they dont understand what is mesh), inventory scrolling, they have all that as their common life, they probably have found weird avatars, more than once, that makes them more tolerant of the self expression of others, you cant never know what kind strange thing you may find next, they may be weird to other people, and its ok, because they are expressing themselves as they feel like it. there is a certain elitism in the sl community, those who dont care to spend much, or dont speak a language used widely in second life and limit them from aquiring many things, and those who manage everything easy and know many places, buy many things they want, that know a lot of SL history and been here many years, the "succesful" (in their own ways) are more confident, they may be business owners, own many different avatars, be the Master they want to be, they have very defined personality in their avatars, while the less succesful can be seen shying away, with a less elaborated avatar. in terms of intelligence, they range from people with psychological problems, to very intelligent people that use this environment to experiment, Second Life has the whole range of human minds to express themselves freely. Second Life is a garden of ideas, in a very fertile soil.
