  1. Was thinking the Queen song, but I remember watching the old serials on TV.
  2. Sadly, missed the sale, but bought it anyways. Theme music from "Flash Gordon" intensifies...
  3. Thanks! I know Dernier, have several of their outfits... for all I know I might already have bought that one and just forgotten about it, lol, I'll check my inventory first.
  4. Okay, that is definitely a bug or regression of some kind. Very odd, since the option to create a new folder is shown, so you'd think that the other creation options would show up too.
  5. I need this outfit!! Where is it from, please? πŸ™
  6. Have you selected the folder first before right-clicking? It sounds like the viewer doesn't know where you want to create the new notecard / script / whatever.
  7. Ah, so I'm not the only person having this issue! Moving camera way out then back in again usually fixes it, but I'd love to know wha the cause is.
  8. I updated my custom skin last month, keeping the rainbow flow with the markings but going for a different style and better coverage compared to my 2021 effort. 🌈 I'm particularly happy that I now have proper lips 🫦 and eye markings πŸ‘οΈ β€” it turns out that applying the textures directly rather than via the HUD for my head doesn't work correctly β€” d'oh! For those wondering, body is Maitreya Lara v5.3 and head is SKNK Vasaran. πŸ‘½ Also, added tattoos on my chest, torso, spine, palms and the soles of my feet. I knew all those alien typefaces would come in handy someday! πŸ€ͺ
  9. My hopes would be: The development & testing of the Mobile app kickstart improvements on the back-end (at the Lab's end). Similarly, that designers & builders see how their products work (or don't) on mobile, and change their processes. It spurs rethinking of the design of the current Second Life Viewer and/or third-party viewers. As others have mentioned, a new generation of users who will hopefully like what they see and help Second Life grow. My big fear would be that none of the above happens, and several years of development work are for naught. But I'm hopeful at the moment that the Lab are serious about this project.
  10. My personal rule of thumb for tipping: Live bands & musicians: yes, if I'm enjoying their music, more so if they're entertaining when not playing music. DJs: yes, but more likely if they're engaging with the audience and not just playing tunes. Venues: usually, depending on how likely I am to visit again. Hosts: not usually, unless they're very entertaining. Dancers: not usually, unless they're keeping the public chat going, then maybe. Good live musicians & DJs get my support, as do venues that provide quality entertainment.
  11. One way to test your tattoo design β€” if you have Firestorm Viewer, not sure if this is available in other apps β€” is to create a new tattoo layer, then click on Local when selecting textures. You can then select a texture file from your computer to add it to the local list, select it then click Ok, and it'll display in your viewer. Only you will be able to see it, of course, but if you add and select the local textures then pan around your avatar with the camera, you'll be able to see how well your design lines up at the boundary between each UV map. (You may want to have the UV template visible in your textures for this, that will give you a better idea of how far you need to nudge things to get them lined up.) Unfortunately, for the standard SLUV mapping we're stuck with how the Lab decided to unwrap their models back in the day. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
  12. I was rocking the flexi hair for most of my first year or so in Second Life (around 2015) β€” alas, I can't remember the name of the store I bought them from, it's most likely gone as are those hairpieces from my inventory.
  13. I'm not a Gorean (as you can tell from my profile picture πŸ‘½) but I am in the UK like you, and I'm also a broadcaster & manager for Gorean Whip Radio so I visit Gorean sims to do shows and cover events. I think it's a combination of factors β€” not just that lots of UK folks either don't have the time or money for Second Life, but that US folks are asleep during those times, plus of course cost of living is universal so sims are being downsized or closed. The irony is that I'll sometimes log in during my morning to get into regions that are crowded at other times. Otherwise, my Second Life window is usually 12pm–4pm SLT at most, any other times are when RL permits. This is some overlap with Australian / New Zealand / Far East folks who log in during their evening / night time, but alas I don't know of any places where you're likely to meet them. As for new user onboarding, yes there is a lot of room for improvement, as has been discussed many times here. The Lab are making an effort to change that, but there is a lot of inertia to overcome as well as barriers elsewhere such as the bar on new avatars or those without payment on file entering some areas. I wish you good luck in your quest @Michaelatv Destiny β€” if you do find any Gorean places active in UK/Europe daytime, do tell!
  14. I'm not sure what the current status of the official Second Life viewer is with regard to Apple Silicon, whether it's a Universal build or runs under Rosetta 2 emulation. I suspect it's the latter for Firestorm and the other Mac-support third-party viewers. It might be worth filing a bug report with the Firestorm developers, particularly if it's not happening in the official viewer.
  15. The struggle is real! I decided to skip the freebies this year, after overdoing it at SL19B, but I still have stuff to sort out from Sci-Fi Con and Fantasy Faire, both this year's and last. πŸ€ͺ
  16. It's funny you started this topic, Love. I get complimented quite often about my rather unique avatar in Second Life. I occasionally do the same to folks I encounter who have similarly unique avatars. And I also compliment folks who've provided great entertainment or customer support.
  17. I put stuff inside the system folders where it makes sense to do so, then have protected folders below those (so I can't move or delete them by accident) for everything else according to what type of thing it is. It's pretty loose at the moment, but I've started to group similar things by creator/store where I have a lot by the same maker. One major plus of using protected folders is that unsorted stuff sticks out and is easier to round up and deal with.
  18. That picture of @Patch Linden in a slit dress... can never be unseen. O.O
  19. Avatar > Preferences, click on Graphics and you'll see your settings there. Since Second Life can be very graphically intensive, those flashes and flickers could be signs that the graphics card is getting overloaded. Try taking the graphic settings in Firestorm down a bit by moving the slider on the Graphics tab in Preferences to the left. You might also want to give your iMac a clean to remove any dust build-up around the vents at the back and bottom. If the graphics card gets too hot for too long it can break down, requiring a trip to your nearest Apple Store or authorised repair shop. (This happened to me back in 2016 with my old 2011 iMac.)
  20. It would be helpful to know what graphic settings you're using in Firestorm, and what resolution you're running at. From the information you posted above, I'm guessing you have a newer iMac than mine. For comparison, I'm posting my system information from Firestorm below. I have 48GB of main memory in my machine versus your 8GB, and your CPU and GPU are newer of course. One thing I turned off was HiDPI support, as the quality difference isn't that huge for me and didn't justify the drop in FPS. CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7600 CPU @ 3.50GHz (3500 MHz) Memory: 49152 MB Concurrency: 4 OS Version: Mac OS X 10.16.0 Darwin 22.5.0 Darwin Kernel Version 22.5.0: Mon Apr 24 20:51:50 PDT 2023; root:xnu-8796.121.2~5/RELEASE_X86_64 x86_64 Graphics Card Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc. Graphics Card: AMD Radeon Pro 575 OpenGL Engine Graphics Card Memory: 4007 MB This is a 2017 iMac 27-inch running at default screen resolution, and I have Advanced Lighting Mode and most advanced graphics features turned on except for shadows most of the time.
  21. While the current Second Life logo may be a bit goofy, at least it still has colour in it β€” something that seems very out of vogue lately. I like what MJ came up with, wouldn't work as a logo per se, but does convey some of the spirit of what this place can be.
  22. Passkeys are an interesting idea, and one that is being supported by many organisations and isn't a Google-specific thing. (Thankfully.) Microsoft and Apple are also on board, as are most of the password management services such as 1Password and Bitwarden. At the moment, it's still in the early stages of being implemented, so for now I'd hope that Linden Lab does a better job of explaining how Multi-Factor Authentication for Second Life accounts, which is already here, will help protect people against phishing attacks.
