  1. I didn't come in SL till the end of 2018, and didn't really check out the forums. so I don't know what all changed, but reading through. I feel like it's more a people thing in general though. A forum I use to post/check on regularly back around the time I joined SL, always had it's posts focused mostly on the off topic section. I came there to discus personality theory and instead all the posts were in the off topic section and centered around politics, social media, etc. It almost always got heated, was plagued by trolls and nearly no one posted on personality (the whole theme of the forum, or was suppose to be) I eventually got board and stopped posting. So I'm not sure this is just an SL thing, but just forums recently in general.
  2. I don't have one, I'm always changing up my look. I think the longest I've ever gone without changing it up is a few months. I have avatars of all ages, human, dinkie, furries, animals, etc. One of the things that drew me to SL (along with needing a social outlet), was the ability to change things up at will. I'm just kind of like, if I can opt to be whatever I want, whenever I want, why would I want to be the same thing all the time.
  3. I don't frequent the forums super often, I wouldn't even be on them at the moment if I hadn't found it while trying to search up an answer to a question. The topic had seemed interesting and I had never heard of the Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs before, so checked it out. So you would be correct.
  4. I'm fairly open to letting people do as they please as long as they aren't hurting someone, but If someone views real life, where real people, lives and emotions exist, as a game, then something is wrong with that person. I feel like I'm talking to a Coffee clone right now. >.> You two should talk, I think you would get along.
  5. I don't know, I joined 5 years ago, after going through start up and learning to move, my first though to see what was free/cheap, found Free Dove had a real nice avi put together in hours, and found a nice ballroom hangout, and a few months later a nice community and I'm still here. So is one of the friends I met at an event who joined around the same time I did, and doing great.
  6. Your correct, my apologies, I was going by memory and I was wrong.
  7. I heard you say your socially inept in another section here and after read all this I get why, you don't LISTEN to a single thing anyone says unless it agrees with your own opinion. How on earth can anyone be socially competent when they aren't willing to communicate like an adult (which is ironic since your here asking for the adult community to be seen more), all I've seen is poor logic, fact that are spouted off with no way for others to verify, strawman argument and a very VERY narrow self focused view that is quite frankly selfish. I sincerely hope that many good things come in to your life in the future that show you that it is an amazing world there both in real life and in Second Life, and no I am not being sarcastic, I mean it genuinely, you deserve better then to be stuck in this confine!
  8. I'm glad I read these last few posts, I'd have never known I was wasting my time trying to make suggestions. Now my only decision left is weather I switch out my viewer or not. >.>
  9. I think many have offered lots of diverse option and the person I keep seeing shoot them down is you, you seem to just want things your way and only your way, and I honestly don't even think that is at all how you are meaning to sound at all. But I don't think it's as simple as just take one suggestion, it is a diverse base, it needs a diverse approach. I don't think targeting just one in the long run is a good idea even if it helps in the short term. I've seen you present this pyramid of needs and a general though, but what exactly do you think think should be done to meet it, I don't recall you giving any ideas on what LL should implement (and you may correct if I have missed or forgotten anything).
  10. I mean I'm not saying she's not made valid points, she has, many here have on both sides of the debate, and there's no easy one size fits all solution. I agree that something needs to be done for retention, what that looks like, I don't know yet. But I'm just aware they based off whom I meet that there are definitely new users that stay, because I interact with them.
  11. Considering I know some who joined months ago and are still here, and I joined 5 years ago nearly and am still here, some people do stay, how many I do not know, but to say all leave is a pretty bold absolute statement, something I'm noticing a pattern here in.
  12. I came looking for something, I needed a social outlet and wanted to be able to make custom looks with an avatar. It was the whole reason I joined SL, so that is not true of every user.
  13. I agree with you this is the main issue. As for others reading, I don't think anyone is stating that it should be turned into an online game as one would typically think of it or that gaming things should be forced on users as a whole, at least I know I'm not. I wouldn't want to be locked it to that in my SL experience, even as someone who identifies as a gamer outside of SL. But the fact is SL currently doesn't do a super great job at teaching others how to find the type of content their looking for. So if someone came wanting to game, there's actually a fair amount of places they could find that type of content to check out, but if they never find it, they get bored. That's actually not just with the topic of gaming, but finding any kind of topic/content on SL, especially the more niche it is, it likely exists in most cases, but if the user can't find it....well, they'll ether spend awhile trying to find it till they do, or likely leave and find it elsewhere. I think for many new users, that basic need is simply getting started in the first place and finding the content their looking for.
  14. As someone who is both a gamer (primarily on Minecraft for that matter, when not on SL), and a heavy SL user. Speaking for my own experience at least, the last thing I'd want in SL is a game, if I want to game, I go to Minecraft. XD I come to SL to be creative and hangout with others, something that is hard to do right now in my real life. As for meeting the basic needs of users, I don't think you can entirely because everyone will have a different idea of what that looks like. For me, my basic survival day one on SL was; 1; figure out basics (movement, ui, navigation, etc.), 2; put together a nice looking avatar, 3; figure out where to stay, 4; and finely, figure out where to meet others. Once I did all that, I felt pretty accomplished. Putting together my avatar especially, was my basic need being met, looking for the free things was my "hunting for food" so to speak, though others with their own experience may disagree. I would actually state from my experience seeing and listening to new players I've met, that there doesn't need to be a challenge, but that the start of SL is already to challenging for many. They don't know basics, how to dress, what the basic ui functions do, where to find things, where to stay, etc. Stuff that should be shown to them in their first hours on first logging on. I was lucky in that as a gamer, most of this stuff actually came second nature to me, but I'd be willing to guess there are a lot of users on SL who don't have gaming as a hobby. For many of them all this stuff can be extremely confusing and they get frustrated, board of trying to figure it out, and leave. As some who has tried and help explain about stuff like the ui and mesh to new users, it's not exactly easy ether, as it even though I understand it, it's not always easy to explain it ether. In my opinion, I think LL needs to make that ui learning top priority (as far as know they do not, but I've been inworld nearly 5 years now, so maybe things have changed since then), I also think a welcome freebie area is good (they've done this with the welcome hub, but having some essential items like clothing might be good), followed by a safe (or at least as safe as SL can get) place to set home, which was not as easy to find when I was new, though I did find one eventually till I could find a better place to stay. Then I would suggest a lesson on how to find and join groups and places, or at least promoting some groups to draw others in, maybe a place like Builder's brewery, or a help/freebie group. Though teaching how to find groups in the first place would be the better option, then users can find groups of their own interests. As for those who would want to game in SL, I think just advertising places in welcome/starting areas that do them in SL would be good, many here mentioned things like MyStory, there are places like MadPea, it would be really easy to draw in those who like the idea of gaming in SL simply by showing them soon after joining where they can find it, because many don't often know where to find places (now we're back to the group/place finding problem).
  15. Part of the issue is, if you did not buy a product off the marketplace, but inworld, you can not offer help or reviews. While I definitely don't think reviews should be open to everyone (that's just asking for trouble), what about those of us who did buy a product, but got it inworld? Which some people, myself included do now, because it's often cheaper to do so, since many charge more on the marketplace to cover fees.
  16. I think this should be changed back, because many go through and review products and leave negative reviews, simply because they didn't understand a product. I liked being able to comment on product comments because if I buy an item inworld, I'm unable to make a comment on the MP. At least I could inform others through comments. Now I can't even do that and have to watch other spread misinformation, or be unaware of something that could help, simply because I can't respond to comments.
  17. I was searching "butterfly" hoping to find some butterfly or butterfly garden themed sims in the General (it was the only rating checked), rated section of search, and came across a place marked general (and yes I made sure the G was there in the description), that is very clearly an adult space. I was going to try and file an AR, however it needed the name of the person responsible, and the location description doesn't give a name, nor do I really wish to go to the sim to find out. Is there anything I can do to report the space?
  18. I just checked it again, and whatever was casing the issue seems to be fixed. I'm able to buy now, no idea what the issue was.
  19. I was going to buy more linden, but keep getting the message "We're sorry, but online billing is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later." I checked the status page, saw nothing relating to it. Anyone know what might be going on? I've never had this issue before.
  20. Okay, so from the bug report, I got this reply. I'm not sure flattening is, the issue. I only have about 80k items, which are in many different folders, which friends have told me shouldn't be enough to mess me up. Also, my sister has this issue as well, and she has next to nothing in her inventory. Would have updated the ticket, but they closed it before I could even get a word in to ask. It's worth noting too, that While I have trouble getting in, usually once I AM in, I am usually stable, so that lengthy login means nothing for this issue. I'll try using the link, but this is getting absurd to me.
  21. Okay, thank you. How do I save the viewer log file though?
  22. Ever since about June, I have been having issues logging in to second life on the official Linden Labs viewer. I spend on average 20 minutes trying to log in every time I come on. I will usually ether have it log me out immediately on getting into the game, it'll log me in, but underwater, and I can't TP or do anything, or it'll stall on the log in screen till I force quit it, eventually I will manage to log in, but it takes forever. Some days are worse then others. Ever since the most recent update, I have also started to have the TP log out issue again, though not as bad as it use to be.
