You'd think maybe their messaging system for updating residents about important changes might be lacking somehow,

I think the biggest 'hole' in the messaging system is allowing residents to opt-out of receiving emails or from LL or allowing 3rd party viewers to not display the message from LL's splash screen or the blog list and issues list on the splash screen in the 3rd party viewer's default setup.

The web dashboard also displays the blog list, but apparently not everyone logs into their dashboard or if they do, don't read much of it.

Messages from LL (with links to the blog post) are also displayed during teleports - I don't know if there's a way for that to be turned off, but I would imagine that might be possible in some 3rd party viewers.

There are also all the social media channels that LL utilizes to post information as well.

  2. There are also some very recent Second Life University videos on youtube about upgrading to a mesh body / mesh head.  Here's the link for the one about the Jake body, but also look on the channel for episodes about some of the other bodies:

The most important thing is being sure to demo all the options, and give some time to evaluating each before reaching a decision on which to buy.

  3. I'm not using the spreadsheet so far, but I am looking at forum posts in this thread especially the ones where just the region is listed.  If the entire SLURL is listed I'm still just using the region name and then walking the region. I'm not really interested in how many candies I get, I'm more interested in the exploring but knowing that a region has at least 1 bucket helps because I don't have a lot of time to devote to it.

I didn't put my SLURL on the spreadsheet either and as of last night my bucket only had 23 visitors (but that was up from 20 the day before).  It's in Deckard.  Right now it's count is not too far off from our RL trick-or-treat counts, so that's kind of neat.

I am reminded again of how absolutely beautiful some of these older regions are.

I had the same thought while I was out looking for candy buckets today too.  Not sure if I want to have my alt go back out looking to see if she can find a home that rivals some of the ones I saw today.  Though If I remove her tier from my mainland parcel, I'm going to end up having to pay a bit of tier each month.  Maybe I should limit her just to looking at camper sites.

  5. I think just having the region name where someone has a pumpkin out is a good intermediate step, as there are so many regions this year.  A region name at least gets one in the right general area, plus still allows for the hunt aspect.  Plus, if you hunt the entire region, there may be other unlisted pumpkins out to be found.

  6. If I'm remembering correctly, I think that being able to get a homestead without needing to have a full region first was one of the types of possible perks people were discussing in the forums prior to PP perks being announced.  So, it would follow that there might be some part of the community who would find this announcement good news.

That was the solution. It's not perfect, but it's a lot better, and a lot quicker than finding another skin.

    Glad that helped.

At some point you may want to demo some other skins to find one where the toes don't start so soon on the top of the foot, or perhaps try one of the included Slink skins.

  8. Even when skin makers are using the original UV map, there can be some small differences from how it looks from body to body.  The biggest difference I've seen is with the feet when the skin was made prior to mesh bodies existence (so it was made for the system avatar) and now it's being used as a BOM skin for a mesh body. Often that results in feet with the issue the OP has.

There may be toe-fixers (toetips) in the folders that came with the Slink Redux body - I know that they were included with the female Slink body.

  9. Also check in all the boxes/folders that came with the body.  With the female Slink Redux body, there were tattoo "toetips" in the folder with Slink skins and brow tattoos.  From the NC included in that folder:

    Quote

    Fingertips and Toetips

These are for skins that aren't specifically made for Slink hands and feet. The included Skins do not need corrective tattoos for Slink hands and feet.

They will overlay the painted on textures on your skin and fit perfectly with Slink Toes and fingers.

They will require tinting with most skins.

        To tint:
1: Wear the skin you want
2: Wear the toetip or fingertip tattoo that is slightly lighter than your skin
3: right click the tattoo in your inventory and select edit
4: in the edit box, open the TINT panel
5: tweak the colour until you can no longer see the tattoo against your skin
6: save a copy of the layer in the skin folder for future use.

  10. I also suggest submitting a support ticket to re-activate the account.  I was able to successfully get back an alt account I had deleted, and even though it had been some months from when I deleted the account to when I requested it back, all of her inventory was still intact when the account was reactivated.

  11. @KjartanEno  You probably saw in the Slink store, but just in case you didn't, there is an additional set of alphas available for free there.  Those are in addition to all the alpha layers that come with purchasing the body.  I've still had to make a couple of alphas from time to time, but between the two sets I've mostly been able to find all the alphas that I've needed.

  12. I was just going to post the same process that @Whirly Fizzle mentioned in the latest SL viewer: Me -> Profile, then on the new profile window "Actions" dropdown box, choose "Upload Photo".

I did test it out with a basic alt (no premium account of any kind), and I was able to upload a photo for the inworld profile without any charge, so using my.secondlife.com in order to change your profile pic inworld without any charge is no longer necessary.

  13. If you're using a system body (one of the starter avatars) you need to look for clothes that say they include 'standard sizing' or that say they are compatible with system avatars.  Those should also include something that includes 'alpha' in its name - that is something that keeps the body from poking through parts of the clothing item.

If you're using something like the Lucy mesh body, many of the clothes that say they are for Maitreya may fit the Lucy body, but you will want to try a "demo" first.

Most clothing creators will offer "demo" versions of the clothing items they sale, and the demos are free.  It's always a good idea to try demos first before purchasing clothing items so that you can try them out to make sure you like the way they fit before purchasing the item.

The Lucy body is a low-cost mesh body offering that could be a good first body while you're exploring and figuring out how things work.  I'm including a link to a video about that body:

  14. I have purchased a number of bathroom sets over the years, but I keep coming back to using the very first set I purchased, which was the LAQ Decor set mentioned above by Lewis.    Sometimes I use the Apple Fall Victoria Clawfoot Tub with the LAQ sink and toilet, but more often than not I use the LAQ Decor Clawfoot Bathtub and Shower.

  15. I believe it's a registry setting the web browser uses to know how to handle the SLURL request from the map, so even if you didn't change viewers, something may have gotten disconnected somehow.  It's worth taking a look at the page @Rowan Amore provided a link to, even if you don't use the FS viewer - it provides some background as well as several possible ways to address the issue.

  16. It sounds to me like the creator had multiple riggings for the clothing item in the original box and didn't want whoever bought the original box to be able to keep the one that they wear and sell the others individually.  In that situation I can understand why the individual contents were marked no transfer.

It may also be that the no transfer permissions were the next owner permissions, and until the original box was opened, the next owner permissions weren't applied?  So it may have been possible to sell the original box before it was opened?  I'm not experienced enough with permission setting to know if that's the case for sure.

It seems to me that the creator should sell only 1 body rigging per box, with the body the item is for clearly marked on each box.

  17. Nevaeh, I wasn't a huge gacha player, and I haven't used any of the new post-gacha machines at all, so I don't know if having the items no transfer is becoming a trend or not with the new machines where you can now see what the item is before you decide to purchase it.

Have you tried politely reaching out to the creator to inquire if perhaps the permissions were set wrong on the items, and that they should have been transferable?

If she intended them to be non-transferable, that is her prerogative, and I don't know if there is anything you can do about that.

Gacha machines as they used to be, are no longer allowed, but there are some new types of machines which show you what item you will be buying before you decide to pay for it, and I think those are often called gacha machines these days.

  18. You can use the "report" function to ask if the mods will delete it (the "report" function is accessed by clicking on the 3 dots in the upper right corner of the post, where the edit option is also located).  Otherwise, editing the post and the title as you have done is the best thing to do.
