I love visiting people's houses! When they're not around. Pamela the food in your kitchen looks great. Are they scripted to hand out samples? People really need to put out food.

Pamela's kitchens always leave me hungry after seeing them.  They are so beautiful.  I'm trying to figure out how to buy one of her kitchens and rez it in my RL house :P

That is the trouble with mesh bodies... putting clothes on them. :$

And I don't mean it's hard to find clothes, it is just so much more fun to show off the smooth body without bumps. :D I like your trailer, I think I have one of those too.

It's very out of character for me to run around like that :)   Might be the start of a new trend :D

  3. After all the posts about mesh bodies that I've been reading the past few weeks, I finally bought one last night and switched over.  After lots of switching back and forth between several different demos, I finally settled on the Maitreya Lara.  With this nice new body, I decided it was the perfect day to go to the beach...

  4. I recently was inspired to do something different on a little narrow lot I have in Bay City.  Put a tiny house (9 x 18 or so, I think) on it, and thought of it as being a 20's or 30's era house, just barely renovated/updated, and furnished in a boho, flea market type style.  It still looks a little bare to me, but I haven't been working on it for too long.

I like little things that tie back to RL - I especially love the crate shelf by the front door, because I have a shelf just like that at the end of my RL hall way, that I've had since I was in my late teens.  The dresser in front of the window in the bedroom picture is textured on the front by a picture of my RL dresser, which was handed down to me from my grandmother.

  5. I don't know a lot of hairbases or toddleedoo's but what first comes to mind is that the hairbase is too large for the toddleedoo's head size, and that's why parts of it are sticking out.  Though I don't know if a hair base (or brow base they're also sometimes called) is something that can be edited, so I don't really have an answer...  except maybe editing your head shape slightly in that area (so it's slightly larger there)?

  6. I joined in 2014, and it didn't take very long, or very much observation, to figure out that one would have to be very talented in something unique (or with a unique twist) in order to make any serious amount of money, and secondly, that it was easier to buy things than to figure out how to make everything yourself.  Still, I tried a lot of different things just for my own enjoyment and learning of skills.  I learned how to do very, very basic prim building (and had a little store for a couple of months, where I sold absolutely nothing), I set up a parcel as a rental with a house and some landscaping, learned how to use caspervend and smartbots to automate things - no one rented it, but it was fun and I increased my knowledge about things.  I had a little coffee house for awhile - it was fun to find things for it and get it all set up.  I didn't worry about whether or not there were visitors, or if they left tips (though that would have been a bonus!).  I enjoyed doing all of it, and I did it more for me, for my own entertainment value, than in thinking this was going to supplement my real life income in some way.  It's all a hobby for me, and I've learned how to set aside entertainment money in my budget for it, and am still able to enjoy the time (and money) I spend in SL.

  7. Back to the original topic for this forum:  Regions for Sale: Homesteads.

If you really own the homestead directly (pay USD tier directly to LL monthly), you should probably specify what date the tier is next due, whether it is a grandfathered homestead or not, what price you are looking for (or free if you really want to give it away) and whether you or the buy will pay the transfer fees.

If you are paying tier to anyone else - either on a weekly or monthly basis - this is the wrong forum category.  Additionally, you should check your agreement with whomever you're leasing from to make sure that you can sub-lease it.  If that is what you want to do, I would suggest a new post in the "Rental Regions: Homestead" category, with just the details about the rental - size, prims, cost, etc.   I believe in this scenario whomever rents it would be paying you, and you would still be responsible for paying the owner of the homestead sim. Given what you have written above, I would be very wary of renting in this situation, because I would have doubts about whether you would be remaining around in order to pay the sim owner.

If you are truly planning on leaving SL however, I would suggest that you not renew your lease (don't pay for any additional time than what you have already paid for), and let it run out after the term that you have already paid for (in which the land will revert back to whomever owns it at that point).

  8. Even with just half of the new account 1st month trading limit, and a homestead....  I think I could entertain myself for days landscaping, putting out houses, furnishing them...  even if was all spent on clothes, spend some time trying each one on, organizing inventory so you'll be able to find all that you purchased easily.   There are lots of places to go sight-see at and take pictures of yourself  looking beautiful while visiting.   You can also make purchases from the marketplace with paypal direclty, in USD.  If you are this bored already, and can't wait until the limit is increased after the first month, then this probably isn't the right place for keeping yourself entertained.

This issue happened to me also, it appears.  When I signed in for the first time in this new version of the forum - and I don't think I had typed Resident - a new account was created.  I was confused because I thought I had had an account (but hadn't used it for quite awhile).  I just did the member search that you had displayed above, and now see my old moirakathleen account (without the Resident part of the name), which was created in June of 2014.

  10. I also suggest submitting a ticket so the matter can be looked into.

I was just curious about your real name being with your billing info?  I just looked at mine, because I didn't remember providing my real name when I signed up, and all I see on my billing info is a partial display of the email I use for PayPal - but no real name.   Is this different when you use a credit card instead of paypal or skrill?

  11. It's there for me too, and I just registered this morning.  Sarah, did you try going through the "Create" button at the very top of the screen, right hand side?  When you click it, click 'Topic' (the only choice) and then it displays a drop-down with all the forum sections/sub-sections.

  12. I always have difficulty being someone I'm not.  Moira is very definitely me, though I think of her as having a more idealized life inworld than I actually have.  My other two don't have a backstory per se, and nothing in their profile or picks to indicate one, though in my mind I think of them differently, with different stories than Moira.  However, both at their core, are aspects of me, based on RL experiences (or 'might haves' if situations had taken different paths).  So when I login with either of other two, it's mainly a reflection of the mindset I'm interested in putting myself into at that time.  It's not really anything made apparent in interactions inworld (expect for the 2nd of the two, who is a 4-year old, which is pretty obvious!). The 4 year old talks very well - none of the 'baby' talk seen with some younger child avatars - but I do try to capture the innocence and wide-eyed wonder with the world that young children have.

  13. Except for one or two really fancy evening dresses, most of what I wear had been fairly low in ACI - generally I'm between 40-60,000 (I'm not a high fashionista, lots of jewelry and makeup type).  I did have one hair which was 200,000+, but I've since found other hair I like much better which is much lower in numbers as well.   I keep the preference setting around 160,000 now that I have a better computer than I used to.

The only thing that really bothered me was getting messages that others might not be able to see me (at my low 40-60,000 setting, even) but I just found out how to disable those messages yesterday.  It's fine with me if others have their setting very low and can't see me other than as a jelly doll- I just don't need to see the messages about it.

... reminded me of a very old screen saver with flying toasters, that my dad had on his computer, when I was a small child.

hehe ...  I remember the flying toasters screen saver...  wish I could say that was when I was a small child...

I saw an avi a week or so ago, that was just black glasses, big nose and mustache (like the plastic ones you could get from a costume or gag store - I want to call it  groucho marx glasses, but I don't know if that is correct...)

Ok... when you edit a system shape, there are a load of sliders, right, that change it's appearance. From a 'system avi' point of view, basically all sliders are the same type.

Once you get into mesh this changes.

    Sliders come in 3 flavours...

    1. Skeletal sliders, these affect the length of various bones in the "skeletal rig", arm length, leg length, height, hip width, etc. These work with RIGGED mesh.

    2. Morph sliders (collision rigged), morph sliders change things about a system avi that are not skeletal, like body fat, boob size etc. Some of these sliders affect your avatar's "collision rig", a series of , well, balloons attached to your skeleton , like inflatable  hitboxes. These work with FITTED mesh.

    3. Morph sliders (not rigged), morphs that are not connected to any of the rigs, they change the surface of a system avi and that's all, stuff like lip shape, mouth width, eye shape etc. These don't work with mesh at all. Project Bento converted 1 type 3 head slider into a type 2, head size, hopefully Bento-2 will convert more.

The older RIGGED mesh clothing, only conforms to Type 1 SKELETAL sliders, such clothing tends to come in 'standard sizes' these days, so you find a size of pants that fit your waist, and the alpha layer hides all of your legs, regardless of them fitting or not. Such items assume you are wearing on a system avi and come with an alpha layer.

The newer FITTED mesh, responds to type 1 Skeletal sliders AND to type 2 Collision sliders, so Fitted mesh pants will  adjust to your leg thickness, butt size, saddlebags etc, Fitted mesh worn on a system avi should fit better than rigged mesh, if made properly, it will more accurately follow the invisible alpha masked legs naked shape, and often comes in 1 size fits all. Again these assume you are wearing a system avi and come with an alpha layer.

Mesh Body specific Fitted Mesh, is the same as regular fitted mesh except its base shape is that of the mesh body it's made for. It's becoming more and more common for garments made for specific mesh bodies to automatically send "alpha cut instructions" to the body when worn, just like the ones from the body's alpha hud, so you don't need to mess about hiding and unhiding parts of your mesh body, the clothing will do this by its self. These assume you are wearing a mesh body with alpha cut features, and do NOT typically come with an alpha layer.

I found this very informative and helpful.  I had a vague understanding, but this really clarified things for me, especially about fitted mesh in general, and then the mesh body specific fitted mesh.   I didn't realize that some of the mesh body specific garments are not typically coming with an alpha layer, because they are automatically sending the alpha cut instructions to the body.
