I can't remember a one! those second citizen saps banned me for something i did on ANOTHER FORUM LOL, NOT EVEN THEIRS LOL They banned ME for something I DIDN'T do on another forum, although they had heard rumours, which was good enough for them, even if they did claim to have no rules . . .
  2. Or even Middle Eastern countries . . .

That would have really set people off! ;-) I have heard rumours that the USA is setting up a WorldVision Song Contest, involving a couple of dozen - nominally - US acts (including lots of Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, and maybe the odd oriental band member) and one Canadian representative, which they claim will decide the best song in the World. Or am I confusing it with baseball?
  4. Flash Rowlands wrote: @Zoe Tick Do you know the difference between Eurovison and Europe? smiles, guess not....:smileylol: Not only do I know the difference, and the provenance of the Eurovision Song Contest, but I can spell it correctly.
  5. Of course, Isaac Asimov developed your theme in his wonderful Foundation series, in which the question "Where is the other end of the universe?" was critical to the plot.
  6. It depends what means are being justified. PS Isn't foibles an interesting word; it sounds as if it is the way a Brooklynite might pronounce another word, but one which doesn't actually exist.
  7. Even my children, whose grasp of geography is so slim that they are usully unsure whether to turn left or right out of our front door, have asked me: "But Australia isn't in Europe, is it?"
  8. You should join the Eukaryotic Group. You might meet a fun guy (sp?) there.

Actually, there are quite a few boring people there, too. And the mods tend to cut participants there a tiny bit more slack than if you are mean in the Friends or Relationships sections. Or maybe it is because there are so few posts of any consequences in those other forums that disagreement is noticeable, or maybe they are more sensitive souls there, or maybe because threads in GD can get out of hand so fast that it's difficult for the mods to work out who is responsible. Just make another Twitter account. Their moderation is even less effective than LL's. But don't get political, cos Homeland Security don't like you dissing the Man. And those kind of "homies" infest Twitter.

The other is usualy for 500L. Interesting that you should choose such dangerous objects to raffle off. Of course, the bed is MUCH more dangerous. Only one in ten people die in a motorcycle accident. Whereas two out of three people die in bed

  12. Pamela Galli wrote: It depends on what precise nuance of meaning you want to give, I suppose. Absolutely. And I think very hard about such matters before I set my fingers to the keyboard. And I think even harder while reviewing the first draft, and any subsequent ones. I agree with most, if not all, of what you say, Pam. And you, or Perrie, or anybody else may believe that I have used too much, or too little, or even the wrong punctuation, but you would not have thought about what I wanted to convey as much as I have, and I do not make "errors". So criticism is rather futile. But may not by any means be considered flaming.
  13. Jumpman Lane wrote: I knew an expert on such innanet behavior...but his name escapes meh! hehehehe I am sure your memory is better than you claim, Jumpy. You can't spend that amount of time banged up in the Second Citizen cornfield without your cellmates' names becoming ingrained in your psyche. Your jailers on the other hand . . .who remembers them?

Although perhaps you should note this press release from the Society Of Feline Typists (henceforth known as the SOFTies) Flame? I wasn't 'flaming' if that is what you are insinuating. I was just having fun. I wasn't insinuating anything. In fact I was stating that you could not be flaming me. And yes, I recognised that you were having fun; as was I; as was the intent of this thread.
  15. On a similar note, I once was reading an absolutely digusting and unnecessary thread in a forum and it made me throw up all over my keyboard. In fact, it happened just ten seconds ago.

  18. Pamela Galli wrote: One. I am sorry Pam, but I have to disagree with you. In addition to the list commas, there's an optional, but correct, Oxford comma, and also an appositive comma, as demonstrated near the beginning of this deliberately convoluted sentence. The test I generally apply for the application of an appositive comma is whether you could replace it, and the opening clause comma, with parentheses. Like this: The test I generally apply for the application of an appositive comma is whether you could replace it (and the opening clause comma) with parentheses. For ESLers who are interested in furthering their understanding of a paradoxically arcane but still developing language, as well as those who slept through English 101 thru 109, this webpage - and the rest of its associated site - offers clear help. Not that you need it, Pam, although I would agree with what I presume is your underlying conviction, that too many commas (and parentheses) - and even hyphenated clauses - are an indication of pretentiousness of style and possibly intentional obfuscation of meaning.
  19. What sort of idiot would pay to test something prelaunch?

  21. Who cares? It's like taking the temperature of someone who has swallowed a fatal dose of cyanide. It might tell you something, but it wouldn't be very useful and it certainly wouldn't change what was going to happen.
