Because, like >99% of those who participate in SL, they are stupid and want to display their real-world handicap in a virtual public place. Which does tend to suggest that the great majority of SLers are unconscious BDSMers specialising in masochism, wishing to be harangued for their inadequacies by a few consciously sadistic and literate participants.
