Lil clickbait sorry. But Sports Betting is legal in Florida now so I'm curious, do you all think Floridians will finally be allowed in Gaming Sims on SL any time soon? Or will I be stuck in Helios for an eternity?

ask LL if you want to know.

Since there is no sports betting in SL, I'm not sure the legality of it in Florida would be relevant.  Florida also has some strict rules about online betting in general, AFAIK.  The online site would need to be approved by the state.  Not sure if that would be worth the time and effort for LL.

I'm in Florida, and did not know we weren't allowed in gaming regions (been in Florida 25 years, been in Second Life 17 years)..

Yeah, certain locations (greyhound tracks, tribal casinos) allow more than other places.

And yet..there are these weird places here in Florida that are "called" Arcades but promoted just like Casinos..

Yes it's been years since we've been able to go to Gaming Sims in SL. I only know because I used to run a sim and loved having a place to chat with friends while playing games like Bingo and No Devil etc.

if thats the Linden hall for sily games, there has been a mile long thread about it when it popped up.

You can ask for opinions, but the only one that can give the real answers is LL.

In a nutshell:

You can't win anything at Helios, except credits for more games. (Someone will correct me if I mis-stated it.)

So, it's not really anything like skill gaming as we normally would discuss it (where there is "something of value" to win or lose).

This way, Helios is not really "competing" with skill gaming regions.

Exactly,

I can only assume it is not scratching the same itch for most.

I don't come from a prohibited area, however since you can only ever win worthless game tokens i find playing at Helios can get a little boring. if i do fancy wasting a little time on games i go to the skill game region also in the noobie complex, all freeplay and you can scratch together a few L$ at some of them. i used to indulge in paid games when i was a bit richer and the internet wasn't getting reset every time i hear "my phones lost WiFi"

It is up to the State of Florida, but probably not. Legal betting in Florida produces tax revenue for the state betting in SL does not. Florida already had places to bet, the Seminole reservation, and cruse ships, being a couple of those. Access to SL gaming regions is also prohibited to residents of Nevada, so that tells you right there it is a revenue issue, not a moral one.

I think LL and with them SL falls under the laws of California, because there is the company is registrated.
As far as I know LL doesn't allow people from other countries where online gambling is legal to open up gambling.

And in countries where online gambling is legal, it doesn't mean that everyone can start a casino or a lottery whenever that person feels like it.
Almost always it is strictly regulated with needed permits and a lot of special rules to obey to, like paying taxes, guarantied win chances, a plan to recognize addicted players and a plan what to do next, special rules about advertisement etc. etc.

So all in all, my money is on: It will not happen any time soon that people from some places can gamble inside SL and others can't.

The only legal betting in Florida itself is Seminole Tribe owned casinos. Such as hard rock and the sports betting is owned by Seminole tribe as I understand it.  It is pretty fairly fubar if you ask me since we can buy lotto tickets and that is ok.. So no LL probably will not let you in to game regions.  You could move out of Florida, I mean we are really full here anyway.
