We have the same silliness in the US.  You only have to be 16 or 17 in some states to consent to sex, but you have to be 18 to see strippers or any sort of porn (and 21 to drink alcohol legally).  Go figure.

I suppose they all tend to come up with things like that just to give themselves something to take time researching - to keep some of them in jobs. It's all a bit idiotic.

I'm reminded of the U.S's stupidity in that a person is old enough to go to war and die for his/her country, but not old enough to drink alcohol.

I think it's a case of saying it's okay to consent to sex at 16, but you have to do it shamefully.

Only once you're 18 are you allowed to do it unashamedly.

Our voting age was reduced from 18 to 16 very recently - because whichever party was in government and did it thought the school-children supported them, so they'd get more votes and stay in government. Very cynical. Should such people be allowed anywhere near government?

Not for Catholics. She's head of the Church of England which is Protestant. Most Irish Catholics I know (and I know quite a few of them) wouldn't have a picture of the Queen in the house.

It has, not least because of problems deciding how the age-verification scheme is to work: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-43370999.

Such announcements are frequently precursors to governments quietly dropping unworkable ideas.  We will just have to see what happens.   If and when it is introduced, I find it very difficult to believe that the BBFC will regard SL as a porn provider, but I could be wrong.
