Starting this thread because my ticket has gone unanswered for multiple days now. The link below shows a Private Version of a client that has the ability to copy items and fully perm the objects within the item. Scripts, animations, sounds and textures are all available to the users of this client.

I just figured that since no one is paying attention to me, maybe you guys have some linden friends who can forward this.

--------------------------------

link removed (due to people informing me this is already known)

--------------------------------

This is also a new account solely created for the purpose of informing people. I do not feel safe and I am often paranoid. But please don't let that excuse the viewing of the link above.

edit

Please note that this is not just a regular copybotting client. This fully perms any item you export as an XML, and even sustains the original creators name for the item.

I would seriously like to know how it copies scripts from objects. My understanding is that without sufficient permissions to edit or view the script, the source of the script is never delivered to the Client. I can understand how it can change perms on objects and textures, but I was given to understand scripts were not copyable in this manner.

@Darrius

For a long time scripts have been able to be stolen and opened through long exhausting hours of determination through hexing the item (script). I myself do not know how to hex and nor have I tried, but people have been doing it for years now.

I'm sure people who were really good at what they do could build a client to steal scripts.

They're charging a few hundred bucks for that private client.

I don't think it's a bluff.

Doesn`t that just prove if you charge a high price people are more likely to think things are for real?

It could also mean you scam a lot of money fast before you get caught & closed down.

Okay .. assuming you know what you're talking about .. here is a test for you (or anyone else).

Go to the Marketplace and get this item:

DGP4SL Script Buster Test Object

Then "bust" the script and follow the instructions in the script to send me proof that it's possible. I remain skeptical but willing to be proven wrong.

Eventhough you are a 'ConcernedCitizen' ( afaik you are promoting the copybotters right now ), there's no need to call Rolig ignorant or knowledgeless about scripts, SL and permissions. Rolig has an outstanding reputation about her knowledgebility here. You don't .

You can always agree to disagree and leave it to just that.

You claim to be serious about the matter. Remain your calm.

My apologies for my insults. Howver it's distressful for someone to be a bit to wiry on not believing this. But to each his own, like you said.

And I know this is sort of traffic for them more or less, but I have not gotten a response to my ticket yet and all the lindens I try to add never accept. So you know, might as well let other people inform those who I cannot reach.

Stealing the source code of a script been possible before. Not so long time ago. LL fixed the hole that made it possible. But LL knew about the hole over half year before it got fixed. LL chose to not warn us about the hole. And this made my blood boil. It still boil to think about it. Personally i think LL should close the whole grid when they find out.

I would not be suprised if there is still ways to steal the source code. Would not be suprised that LL already been knowing about this trick for months. LL tell us the truth. Atleast warn us about threats like this. It is one thing to loose stuff like money for example. Money can be replaced. Damage caused by stolen source code can never be healed.

Edit: Take the link off your post.

From the advertised website:

"Special Offer: 50 <name of ripper viewer removed> Giveaways !

You have to link http://inflife.net/ and advertise it (either the INFLIFE website, or a product, or anything you think advertisable) to 10 different websites that are related to second life. That can be blog entries, forum posts, anything."

This is probably what this "ConcernedCitizen" is trying to do. I hope lots of people RIC this thread and see to it that this spam is removed ASAP, along with all SL accounts of the OP.

Hi, if you have real fears that a real security problem is exposed here, the best way to make sure the right Lindens are aware is with a SEC issue in JIRA. SEC issues are not treated like the regular kind. The details are private, they go straight to the correct people who can deal with security exploits, and the tickets are seen in a short time.

The web site you linked to is not new, and the viewers it talks about are not new, so it is certain that the right Lindens already know about them. Still, a SEC issue and not this forum is the right way to report it.

I don't know how they would know I sent them here. There is no UUID for them to track to see if people come from my thread. How would they know? Do I tell the people who go there to mention that Concerned sent them? No.

I am here to merely get this information the the Lindens, considering no one else inworld would choose to hear my words.

Btw, this is the company who hosts the website that advertises this copybot / ripper client, which is probably a scam to begin with:

Registrant

Domains by Proxy, Inc.
(480) 624-2599 Phone
(480) 624-2598 Fax
DomainsByProxy.com
15111 N. Hayden Rd., Ste 160, PMB 353
Scottsdale, Arizona 85260
United States

From the website of the hosting company:

If you are a law enforcement official conducting:

In special situations, it may be necessary for Domains By Proxy to reveal your name and personal information, such as:
  • When required by law, or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary in order to conform to the edicts of the law
  • To comply with a subpoena or other legal process served upon us
  • To resolve any and all third party claims, whether threatened or made, arising out of your use of a domain name registered by Domains By Proxy on your behalf

Shouldn't be too hard to get the RL information of these lowlifes. SL content creators could throw some money together to have some specialist deliver a message to the people behind this website and this viewer, and put them out of business by rendering them unable to ever use a mouse or a keyboard again.

In addition, you can file a complaint about hosted sites on https://www.domainsbyproxy.com/Default.aspx and report them for spam, copyright-infringing content or other objectionable content. I suggest that people who find this kind of theft tool objectionable make ample use of this option. Especially websites that are reported for hosting CP are usually taken down pretty fast by hosting companies, without much of an investigation.

The Lindens who deal with security issues don't really need to see this thread. You posted a link to a public blog that has been around for years and to viewers that have been around for a long time. They already made the blogosphere and Youtube and Twitter circuits months and months ago. You are posting old news, like stuff that even Neil knows about by now.

RIC'd with following content  "Moderator, please evaluate this thread and warn Lindenlab if appropriate. User claims illegal viewer can backup any permission on any item, yet my suspicion is ( like others in the thread ) this concerns a shameless promotion of the notorious Reborn-viewer. "

You wanted attention. You certainly have it now. If you are true in your intentions I thank you for your effort to 'bring it out here'.

If not ... goodbye.
