My avatar makes typing gestures with it's hands when I'm typing in the chat box. How can I make it stop doing this as it looks silly?

Ok so I've bought a new skin with new parts. I go to my inventory and click on the new skin but it just appears on the picture as a picture next to my avatar. How do I make my avatar wear the new skin and put clothes on on top of it? I'm totally confused here.

My avatar is a bit of a prude. I go down the menu and select the one that removes his clothes, but when it looks from the menu that he has removed all his clothes, the actual avatar is still wearing a vest and underpants. How do I persuade him to get naked??
