  1. Oooooh. They just updated! [updated 12:29 PM PDT 20 May 2014] Logins are opening, but we’ll be monitoring the system for awhile before giving the ALL CLEAR. If you attempt to login and appear to stall, please be patient and try riding your first login effort all the way in world. This will help keep the initial login surge down. Deep breaths...
  2. Systems undergoing maintenance. Right now is perhaps not the best time to try... [Posted 7:57 AM PDT, 20 May 2014] We are currently undergoing unscheduled maintenance on some of our primary systems. During this maintenance, various functions, including logins, may be unavailable. Please refrain from rezzing no-copy objects and making L$ transactions until the all clear is given. http://status.secondlifegrid.net/

  4. "if you want to buy or sell more L than lindex allows then there are several other companies where u can do that ..." Correction: L$s cannot be sold anywhere other than on the LindeX, as per the TOS: "Users are not allowed to sell Linden Dollars to Authorized Resellers and Authorized Resellers are not allowed to purchase Linden Dollars from users. Any purchase of Linden Dollars from anywhere other than the LindeX or from an Authorized Reseller is not permitted and is considered a violation of these Terms of Service which may result in suspension or termination of your Account."

Kim Anubis wrote: Griffin, ithe current policy is a hindrance to many who would like to export content to which they legitimately own appropriate intellectual property rights, or which they have built in collaboration with others, even when they have signed, hard copy, real-life contracts to demonstrate their rights. And how is LL to differentiate between who allegedly has such rights and who is just ripping content? Who's going to do all this vetting? They're not going to review your contracts for you... But let's say they did and you get the go-ahead to work around this "hindrance". What's to stop you from exporting content that you don't have rights to? And do you honestly think LL would be able to keep viewers that basically ignore the permissions system out of the hands of the "bad guys" if they allowed just some people to use them? There is a difference between purchasing a chair in a shop in SL versus hiring someone to create custom content for you under a legally binding agreement that details a rights transfer or Work for Hire agreement. Custom content can be sent outside of SL so the client can upload it wherever they choose. No need to involve LL at all. Given all the wailing and gnashing of teeth over the current TOS, one would think that would be a more attractive option. Relaxing the policy on content-exporting viewers is not an option at all. I would say you're probably in the minority among content creators in thinking it's a "hindrance".
  10. Kim Anubis wrote: Another hindrance is the SL policy that says you cannot connect to the service with a viewer able to export content that you didn't personally create or upload. I don't create much SL content, but I would say that that is one "hindrance" which is essential. Or should everybody be able to use a copybot viewer? However, there are ways to recreate content despite it, as I have done for clients. "Recreate" as in... make cheap knockoffs? Or do you in fact use the copybot method? Edit: It is entirely possible to own intellectual property rights on content without having the correct SL permissions in order to export it. Purchasing content does not give one intellectual property rights on that content.
  11. From the page Dres linked: Important: The examples listed below are NOT NEEDED anymore. This page is being kept for archiving purposes. Instead please set the PRIM_PHYSICS_SHAPE_TYPE to PRIM_PHYSICS_SHAPE_NONE for all child prims you want to set a phantom effect for.
  12. P.S. If you're the sort of CSR that Wonderful World of Meeroos has on staff, I'm glad I have no dealings with them.
  13. How is posting the question VERBATIM a second time a "clarification" of any sort?
  14. Hoping for a different answer? (http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Abuse-and-Griefing/Quick-question-regarding-TOS-and-alts/qaq-p/2719606)
  15. I don't think that's an option in the official viewer? Get used to people thinking you're a perv, and tell them to get over themselves.
  16. You won't find much (if any) content (avatars/avatar customizations, buildings or objects) there. It's got to be built from scratch or imported.

  18. https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ Ticket type - Land & Region / initiate Region Purchase (or Initiate Region Sale as appropriate) ... Both buyer and seller must submit support tickets, via the Support Portal, naming the region to be transferred and the transaction amount agreed upon in either U.S. dollars (USD) or Linden dollars (L$). Both sides also have to confirm other details about the region being transferred. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Managing-Private-Regions/ta-p/700115#Section_.3
  19. Well, there's the forum "avatar" (mine is currently the "equal" sign, yours is the generic default "avatar") and then there's the forum badge, which is the larger picture. 20. if there are L$s involved, I think you will find that lotteries are against LLs Policy Regarding Wagering in Second Life whether you put "roleplay" in front of it or not. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Policy_Regarding_Wagering_in_Second_Life
  21. "One of the easiest ways is to rent a skybox or parcel that does not allow people to view you, hear your chats, or fly." ....... IF the correct parcel settings are enabled. "Some parcels will allow you to set the permissions that people have if they come onto your land." ....... If they're ON the parcel, privacy settings are out the window. "But skyboxes are my favorite to rent because they're up high in the air, flight is forbidden so no one will be able to fly up & spy on you, ..." ....... Again, IF the correct parcel setting is enabled. But that won't/can't stop people from flying up inside a neighboring parcel and camming over. There also is or was a "fly everywhere" feature in some viewers.
  22. You can't stop people from camming in but you can prevent people from seeing any avatars on your parcel when they are on another. Hiding avatars The owner of a parcel (or, for group-owned land, a group member with the necessary rights) can hide avatars and their chat from those outside the parcel. By default, parcels DO NOT have hidden avatars. When enabled: Those outside the parcel can't see avatars on the parcel and vice-versa. Other objects are not affected (EXCEPTION: vehicles ridden by hidden avatars are also hidden.) Those outside the parcel can't see nearby text chat from those on the parcel, and vice-versa. Group text chat is not affected. To be clear, when a parcel has avatars hidden, anyone outside the parcel cannot see (or communicate with) those on the parcel; conversely, if you are on the parcel, you can't see (or communicate with) anyone outside of it. The communication restrictions apply only to nearby (regular) chat, not group chat. The world map and mini-map are unaffected. LSL sensors function normally, and detect the presence of avatars on parcels with this setting enabled. To hide avatars on a parcel: Choose World > Place Profile > About Land or right-click on the parcel and choose About Land. Click the OPTIONS tab. Clear the Allow other Residents to / See and chat with residents on this parcel checkbox. By default, this checkbox is selected. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Managing-your-parcel/ta-p/700113#Section_.6.4
