Brand names, just forget about them when it comes to desktop computers. Go to the nearest computer stores, tell them what you want to do with your new computer and have make you an offer for a custom built machine, especially if you need to use Win7. If you're a litte tech savvy or have a friend who is, you can even build a desktop machine from components. That's not much harder than assembling something from LEGO. J.

Getting a new iMac?
Jean Horten replied to valerie Inshan's topic in General Second Life Tech Discussion
Madelaine McMasters wrote: Jean Horten wrote: Oh, wow, it even supports openGL 2.1 introduced in 2006. J. All iMacs produced since 2010 support OpenGL 4.1. All iMacs produced since 2007 support OpenGL 3.3. Are you confusing Apple's support of OpenGL on Macs with LL's use of OpenGL on Macs? I am not confusing anything, I am referring to the specs the op gave in the initial post. I am including these here again, in case you forgot to scroll up to the first posting in this thread: CPU: Intel® Core i5-2500S CPU @ 2.70GHz (2700 MHz) Memory: 4096 MB OS Version: Mac OS X 10.10.2 Darwin 14.1.0 Darwin Kernel Version 14.1.0: Mon Dec 22 23:10:38 PST 2014; root:xnu-2782.10.72~2/RELEASE_X86_64 x86_64 Graphics Card Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc. Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6770M OpenGL Engine OpenGL Version: 2.1 ATI-1.30.5 Must be a pre 2007 machine J. -
Getting a new iMac?

Oh, wow, it even supports openGL 2.1 introduced in 2006. J. -
Why buy Windows as Linux user? There is WINE. J.

AMD is an excellent choice, you pay less money for them and in return you get more problems from buggy drivers for the money saved in comparison to Nvidia gpus. Mesh not showing, toen pixels, weird color issues , all these things have happened and still are happening in SL thanks to AMD's really poorish drivers under all operating systems. J.

That would be 9,99 US$/Month please. J.

Help with computer choices ;~;

AMD GPUs, best choice if you want driver trouble under any operating system. J. -
Chrome OS is not a supported OS by any viewer for Second Life, either install a different operating system on your chromebook or get another computer that runs an operating system that is supported by a viewer of your choice. Besides that, I doubt that the tech specs of a chromebook are sufficient to run any viewer statisfactory. J.

A 2 GB RAM cloud machine which even in normal use ( not in SL) has shown massive overheating problems in tests and comes with a ressource hungry operating system , uses only a dual core cpu whichis slightly faster than an intel atom and integrated intel graphics is not exactly what is recommended for Second Life. Nice that it works for you, but I am very sure that it will grind to an immediate standstil or a viewer crash l when you visit crowded sims with the graphics set to anything but low or that it will auto power down due to becoming massively too hot. The pink version looks like something my 7 year old niece would love by the way. J.

What was your plan when you eliminated the 8/8.1 from the quote? Spreading hate against Linux? Spreading general FUD? J. Jenny, you haven't been around the internet much, have you. J.

Graphics advice needed!
Jean Horten replied to SaintLunatic's topic in General Second Life Tech Discussion
Unfortunately your computer is not performant enough to run sl statisfactory. As you have a trendy all in one machine with no possibility to install a real graphics card, I fear there is not much you can do but to run Sl in low graphics. J.
