As Ren Toxx says, some may be using the same mesh templates - I hadn't realised people sold the base mesh untextured in SL for commercial use till recently - an easy way to 'make' and sell clothing I guess. SL is no different to RL - in RL people copy illegally and some are not caught out, and people are in SL..so it's gonna happen there... I found this website recently - Slocca.org - an association promoting original content in SL, and they have a list vendors who are guaranteed 100% original in their creations. You could browse their shop directory and use the ones listed there to be sure you are not buying copies.

Hi, I'm looking for a ticking sound in Second life to put in an object. I've tried a few sound stores but can't seem to find one. Does anyone know of any shops inworld that sell ticking clock sounds?

How to script an hour hand rotation?
Evangeline Arcadia replied to Evangeline Arcadia's topic in LSL Scripting
Thanks very much Ohjiro! I tried cutting etc. on the prim and that worked a treat. Will check out that link too. Thanks. -
I want to make an object that a user can touch and when it does the object either a) dissapears or b) falls apart, and then after a set interval of time (minutes) reappears whole again , so that the effect can be repeated. I've searched online and inworld for a script that can do this, and also on the LSL script wiki but am not coming up with anything. Does anyone know of an appropriate script, or multiple scripts that I could combine?

Hi, I've got rotation scripts but they all seem to rotate about the middle of any object I put it into. I want to make an hour hand from a prim, so need to have the point about which it rotates at one end (of course). Can anyone point me in the right direction please to where I can get such a script or how to modify the basic rotation script?

Dreaming Virtual (SL Oculus Rift blog)
Evangeline Arcadia replied to Compcat Baddingham's topic in General Discussion Forum
Thanks for sharing your blog - I think the whole Occulus rift and SL thing is fascinating. I can't wait till OC is available to general consumers - I know you can get it as a developer, but I'm not one:( I'd love to try it though. I love the thought of more immersion in virtual worlds. The creativity and details of some builds that we see now is amazing - how much more so will it be with more immersion.....? I'm watching the development of this with interest, so will be interested to follow your adventures into this too:) -
Art movement for original content
Evangeline Arcadia replied to Voodoo Schnyder's topic in Merchants
What I find somewhat amusing is how the majority (from my personal experience) of stores strive to replicate almost exactly items from RL - obviously it's what's in demand. I'm not deriding their designs - I've bought stuff myself, often items that I thought were fun or just beautiful. But few seem to really think outside of the box and use the freedom that SL gives - items in SL don't have the physical constraints that they do in SL so why not do something different? But then...I've always been a touch on the surreal side lol. I suppose in going from RL to SL people want a sense of the familiar. Sorry..didn't mean to go offtopic but the original post about originality brought it to mind. I didn't know about slocca - thanks for the link Theresa. -
Hi, I don't think my post title explains clearly what I mean.... I'm planning to start a RL business and am thinking that I might like to mirror it in SL - maybe not offer identical products but similar. All of this of course would be time consuming, so I'm wondering if anyone in SL offers their modelling/build skills to make items (not design, just make it up) whether mesh or prim, for a fee? Or is this not a done thing? I'm not looking for anyone now, just trying to guage what my options might be. Any advice/feedback would be appreciated.

Third party viewer question
Evangeline Arcadia replied to Evangeline Arcadia's topic in General Discussion Forum
Thanks very much for the advice Ren and Dres. I was actually thinking of Firestorm:) -
I'm thinking of trying a third party viewer - if I don't like it is it easy enough to go back to the default SL viewer - can you have both installed at the same time and switch between the two when desired?

I've noticed that there is a difference between the way water looks on my PC compared to my laptop. Even though my PC is older and has a less powerful graphics card, the water in SL is detailed, beautiful and sparkly (e.g . at places like Alirium). I've made a comparison of the graphics settings on the PC and laptop, and set the laptop to the same as the PC, and notice that on my laptop I can't enable Advanced lighting Model (or Ambient Occlusion or Depth of Field) and this is the one difference now between the settings. Also, Shadows and Water Reflections are greyed out (although set the same). I've also set the settings the same under Hardware, and checked the settings under World> Environment Editor match too. I've gone through a comparison of my video card settings for second life and matched them up where possible. There's still a difference and I'm a bit stumped as to why. Is anyone able to help with any suggestions please?

Implement an inworld text/image editor
Evangeline Arcadia posted a topic in General Discussion Forum
I think it would be a great feature to be able to add text to objects and textures whilst inworld. Sometimes I want to create a quick sign or notice and it would be great to be able to upen up the Build window and as well as being able to apply a texture to a prim, be able to click another box which access a window where you can write text to be overlayed. It would save having to open up Photoshop, create new document, write the document, save it , upload it etc. Maybe a simple image editor inworld would also be useful. I wonder how difficult this would be to implement. Perhaps LL could look at this for SL V2? -
Considering that SL is free, I'm not sure why you are even hesitating:matte-motes-big-grin: What have you got to loose? I'll tell you - missing out on seeing the great creativity that has flowered in Second Life over the years. There is so much you can do in SL - whatever you are interested in there'll be someone else there doing it already. SL really is what you make it!
