  1. Considering that SL is free, I'm not sure why you are even hesitating:matte-motes-big-grin: What have you got to loose? I'll tell you - missing out on seeing the great creativity that has flowered in Second Life over the years. There is so much you can do in SL - whatever you are interested in there'll be someone else there doing it already. SL really is what you make it!
  2. JPG0809 wrote: Better tolerance with wireless internet. Not every home relies on a wired connection and many use their laptops. Yep, totally! With so many people today switching from desktops to PC and wireless SL really needs to deal with this.
  3. I use it a lot to find shops for things I'm looking to buy or to find new places to explore and visit. I did prefer search as it was about 6 or 7 years ago before the search interface update. I believe that there used to be far more results returned (well it seems like it from memory). I used to find some really interesting places and things back then, more so than now, although I don't think that's because there are less interesting places....just that search doesn't always return that much compared to the past.
  4. Not entirely the same thing, but I've been modelling and texturing for so long that my first thought upon seeing a dirty brick wall isn't 'that needs a wash' but 'wow, awesome grunge!' I do this too after I started making textures a few years ago and found I loved making grungy type ones. In a decade or two when every home has a 3d printer, you will be able to buy a piece of SL furniture for your RL house **Only uploaded images may be used in postings**://secondlife.i.lithium.com/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif" border="0" alt=":smileyvery-happy:" title="Smiley Very Happy" /> The possibilities with 3D printing are enormous. This would just be so cool to do!
  5. I've wondered about that myself too, and even caught myself doing it the other day : I wanted to put another bench in my park and had previously bought real life style, then I thought why do I need to do that? It doesn't have to be exactly like real life. I suppose people like what's familiar, and sometimes may use second life to recreate the real life, or parts of it, they would like to have but can't for whatever reason.
  6. I went shopping today to try and find some furniture - in one of my favourite shops I was walking through trying to find the right section when I passed a display of kitchen stools and my immediate reaction and thought was "Oh great, stools, I need one for the kitchen" - and actually stopped to go look and buy one, for my real world kitchen! I then remembered that wasn't possible....:matte-motes-bashful-cute-2: I haven't been even spending loads of time in SL recently - if I had I wouldn't be surprised. Maybe I've just been a resident of SL for too long!
  7. Thanks very much for your reply Perrie, but I want to buy inworld, not from the marketplace (hence the title of the post). I guess I could see if any of those sellers sells inworld also.
  8. I'm trying to find somewhere that sells sound scripts for animals/birds, in particular ducks. A search of classifieds hasn't been much used. Does anyone know of any stores. I know there used to be one or two but I just can't find them in my landmarks anymore.
  9. SLtesterL2 - thanks for this tip! I hadn't even realised I could add SL to the Nvidia settings.
  10. Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm on broadband and generally have no connection problems - just SL. Strange thing is I'm also wireless on a desktop PC (which is a lower spect than the laptop) and have no problems in SL on that. I've got round the building problem by making adjustments numerically (especially when scaling). But I'm still having major problems opening and editing scripts. I've tried various SL settings adjustments. I'm wondering now if a different viewer might help. I can't see how it would but you never know. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  11. So I've been watching the bandwidth in the Statistics window (Advanced>Performance Tools). I notice on my land its very low, anywhere from 7kbps to 50kbps. I've tp'd to a busy place and the bandwidth has shot up to in excess of 70kpbs (I've seen it go up to about 150). My question is what does this mean? Due to more avatars and objects being around SL's consuming more bandwidth on my PC? But in the SL guide it says that if you have 0Kbps it means there's a problem - so if it's lower in comparison on my land, which isn't a busy area, then does that mean there's a region problem? I'm a bit confused....
  12. I'm having a lot of problems using scripts and building (texuring mainly) and think it might be because I'm on a wireless laptop. Has anyone got any tips?
  13. I've just read somewhere in the help section that SL isn't compatible on wireless :catmad:. That just sucks and might be the problem. Kind of spells the death of SL for me if I want to do any more building! Kind of ticked off right now and wondering if it's worth continuing to pay premium membership if I won't be able to us SL fully....
  14. I've been experiencing an awful lot of crashing - SL seems to crash for me when I use any scripts or trying to texure prims. I found it was crashing also when trying to stretch prims manually, but it's better when making numerical changes. I'm not crashing if I'm generally moving around or teleporting places. I've never experienced this when I used to do SL on my PC, but I'm using a laptop at the moment. It's not very new, (Dell XPS M1710) The specs seem okay though I think, I got it from a friend who used to do a lot of gaming on it. (64 bit, 4GB RAM Nvidia GeForce Go 75950 GTX). I've tried adjusting graphics settings to low in SL and also adjusting graphics card to balance performance with quality. But nothing's working. I'm in a mainland region. Getting a bit frustrated having to keep logging back in to SL, so any tips or advice would really be appreciated!:matte-motes-big-grin:
  15. Yep, experiencing issues too. I'm okay if I'm just walking around but if I try and edit scripts and build it's constantly crashing. Soooo frustrating!!! I've tried adjusting my graphic settings and graphics cards setting also but no joy:(
  16. Thanks Nyll and iCade. Yes it was the driver. After I had posted earlier and had a good look around my Nvidia controls and saw that it said there was an update available. So I figured I might as well try it (306.23). I installed it with a clean install and so far so good! No more pink prims and hair. Never had to do all this before with my cards, but I've learnt something new:)
  17. Thanks for the response iCade but as I've written in my post I'm using NVidia, not ATI.
  18. I've not had problems before with graphics cards and my PC and SL, but I recently had to get a new card. I was limited in choice because of the power supply of my computer, so I have a Nvidia Geforce GT 610. The driver worked well but didn't work with some other applications so I contacted Nvidia and they recommended an alternative driver, Geforec R304 (304.79). All my other apps are working fine now, but when I go into SL some objects are pink and the card makes a lot of noise. Not everything is pink, just some prims and my hair. I'm wondering what I can do - any suggestions anyone? are there any settings on my PC or my card or SL that I should tweak.
  19. Just reduced this to L$6,000 - I'm willing to consider dropping the price further . IM me inworld or send me a PM here.
  20. Wow, we can use megaprims now? I've been away from playing in sandboxes too long!:matte-motes-big-grin:
  21. Nice piece of flat 512 land for sale in a Moderate region. No covenant , so it's yours to do with as you please! Location: Mainland - Bruissac 154,49,37 L$8,000 SLURL direct to the land: http://slurl.com/secondlife/%20%09Bruissac%20/154/49/37/ Any questions, IM me in Second Life:)
  22. Wow, this is a bummer! I'm using viewer 1.23.5 becuase I hate the newest one, and I love the search function in it, and used it often to find new places to explore. The way it is now it's useless. Looks like LL is forcing me to upgrade...:matte-motes-angry:
  23. Well after repeated crashes, every time I try to use SL at one point or other, I'm giving up on the latest SL Viewer (3.2...). It's dreadful and the constant crashing is really ticking me off. I've had enough and uninstalled it. So...I would like to try a TPV as someone suggested to me in another post today. But not every having used one before I'm not sure where to start. Should I go with one of the ones LL says complies with it's policy ( http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory) i.e. Singularity, Phoenix, or Prudence, or one of the others listed further on? I guess my questions are: Are these 3 more 'reliable' than the others, whether that be stability, or security? Is there anything about the other TPVs not in these 3 to highly recommend them instead?Which is most stable in terms of not crashing? (my system is Winodws XP, with 1GB Ram 2.66 GHz, NVidia Geoforce 7600GT)Which TPV do you like best and whyIs there anything to watch out for when choosing a TPV?Any advice would be very much appreciated.
  24. Thanks for the information Amethyst. It seems a bit poor that I would have to use a third party viewer because LL can't produce one that's stable....thank you third party providers though! Where would people be without you. Looks like I might have to try one out. I was thinking, what about new users though? Those who have heard about SL and want to give it a try, download the latest one then don't get a good, or full experience of SL because the viewer is unstable, or because they don't get to see all that SL offers because the Search isn't what it was...potential loss of customers for both LL and SL residents...
  25. Thanks very much for your responses. I 'm not really one to moan in the forums, and don't like to be negative, but I find it really frustrating is that SL as a concept is so utterly fantastic but things like poor search functionality, a viewer that is constantly crashing etc. will drive people away. I respect everything LL has done in terms of creating SL and making the world possible, but I don't feel like they are moving ahead of the game from what I've seen and heard. That's a real shame.
