  1. If a resident is only interested in the land aspects of membership, 3 Premium memberships (all contributing to a single land group) is a better value (yearly net stipend) than one P+ membership, as the former has 3072 sqm of included tier rather than the 2048 sqm of P+. As I see it, P+ is only "worth it" if you value the non-land perks, such as unlimited texture uploads or picking your Linden Home. I have always thought that the whole point of Bellisseria was to increase the number of paying residents by making it super easy to acquire an inworld home (and to protect the new home owner from annoying neighbors). Because people have preferences, it is important to have variety with respect to home options. It may be that the 2048 sqm parcel with a new (ranch?) theme is simply another example of variety, similar to the expensive bottle of wine on a wine list that serves as an anchor to make the other wines more attractive. Enhancements in Bellisserria that increase the value* of existing themes may NEVER happen, as these would not contribute to the goal of converting Basic residents to paying residents. Perhaps this is the real reason we will never see options like a houseboat on a 2048 parcel. Linden Lab will always say, if you want that, make it yourself on mainland. * The Traditionals did get open floorplans and the Houseboats did get additional options, but personally, I have not used these enhancements and assign them minimal value. You may love these additions, which is great.
  2. I have not noticed a problem opening profiles inworld. Is that where you are having a problem? If the issue persists, contact support and provide details.
  3. Yes LL could have come up with a way to give P+ residents more LI months ago but they didn’t. It is frustrating. Unfortunately they are committed to a single P+ theme on 2048 sqm parcels as the only option.
  4. You CAN put up a skybox, either on the mainland parcel you purchase or even over a Linden Home if you get one of those someday. A parcel owner can build upto approximately 4000 meters.
  5. Sorry about not mentioning that the approved way of getting support for land issues is by filing a support ticket. But still wanna give a shout out to Wendi because she does a great job of handling land issues.
  6. Apologies if I got this wrong due to only spending a total of 15 minutes in Sansar, but I always understood that the big problem they were trying to crack was scalability.... allowing an arbitrarily large number of avatars to be at an event. The solution was to clone the event many times so that a subset of the event goers were in each clone. Consequently, there was no world map and no going from point A to point B inworld. Accordingly, no need for traveling in vehicles as the way you moved around was teleporting. So water is decorative. Can't believe I stayed there even 15 minutes.
  7. Few bits of game of homes advice. 1. to get a stilt that is guaranteed to have rezzable water, pick stilt on pier or stilt on water. You have to be very lucky to get a stilt on land that has water. 2. The 5 picks work like this… each pick has a 24 hour timer. So when you use a pick, it is 24 hours before you can use it again. Each pick is independent of the others. If you use all your picks between 11 pm and midnight, you do not get them all restored at midnight when the day changes. Rather, each pick is restored 24 hours after it was used. 3. bonniebots linden homes maps are not updated in real time so you may see a house showing available when it is not 4. for popular homes, pay attention to when new regions are released as that is your best chance of landing a choice Home. It is worthwhile practicing selecting/abandoning homes so that you don’t waste time when new regions are released
  8. Copy that. This particular lake is not quite that big, however, there are other bodies of water in "The Pickle" that have the same issue.
  9. I would replace that lake with fake Linden water. My favorite is Edo Freshwater from Konoha. You can see some in my koi pond here http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Airashii Mogura/161/15/34 The lake appears to be decorative so this could work. I used this water to fill a double wide parcel at SL19B and it looked great.
  10. I rewatched the Lab Gab and wrote down exactly what was said about mobile... Grumpity Mojo Patch I wonder how this will play out over the coming years. Here are some guesses... 1. The mobile viewer attempts to capture all the tethered viewer functionality, recast in a mobile UI. The comments of Grumpity, Mojo, and Patch suggest this as an initial offering. 2. The mobile viewer is a subset of tethered viewer functionality. The main purpose is to facilitate "onboarding" and the expectation is that there will be migration to the tethered viewer for things like serious building. 3. The mobile viewer is a subset but inworld experiences are adapted so as to optimize the mobile viewer experience. For example, vehicles are upgraded to work well with a mobile UI. New inworld games are developed. 4. The mobile viewer enables functionality and Linden Lab policies that do not currently exist... new ways of monetizing Second Life and new commercial opportunities... the metaverse. I hope that Brad Oberwager is asked about the mobile viewer at SL20B. He has the power, yanno.
  11. Here's the thing. All we got today, I think, is a demo of a viewer running on a mobile device and rendering some scenes from Second Life, perhaps using existing server protocols. Nobody said anything about "what they claim they want a mobile viewer to be capable of ". I suspect that they DO NOT have an objective of recreating the current viewer on a mobile device. Rather, I hope they are going after something completely different that does not present a high barrier of entry due to complexity. Something that is not a continuation of the sandbox game. What would this new thing be?
  12. The first part of this Lab Gab is a promo video for Linden Lab's effort, begun in October 2022, to develop an iOs and Android Unity-based viewer. Mojo says there is much more work to do but it appears to be an excellent start. Usually, we wander around in the weeds but the question for this particular topic is "the big picture". Pretend that you own Linden Lab and want to make money... what would you like to see happen? The "sandbox-game-that-runs-on-gaming-computers" may (or may not) have positive cash flow and may (or may not) have stalled resident growth. Is there a game changer? Consider this speculation (keyword is speculation). Is Linden Lab developing a capability that gives either the Lab or a new owner the option of novel business opportunities. By novel, I mean not the current SL situation., which is a free or subscription-based sandbox game with practically zero connection to real world commerce and a suppression of advertising. Imagine SL now split into the tethered-world and the mobile-world. The tethered-world is for creators. The mobile-world is for real world consumers, anyone with a mobile device (that meets h/w requirements). The barrier to entry for mobile world is very small with an obvious UI. You download the app, sign up, and off you go with your NUX avatar. You don't need a linden home or inventory or buildy things like that. All you get is attachments for your NUX. And your primary activity is BUYING stuff that gets delivered to you in the real world (powered by Tilia). Is Linden Lab back in the metaverse sweepstakes?
  13. Stawberry (my fave) asked Grumpity why she changed from her "stick figure". Grumpity said a bunch of words that came down to "didn't like the way attachments attached to the stick figure" and "thought it would be cool to be a human" and "but I am slowly adding back the stick figure attachments". Update: Went back and rewatched, noticed the first response Grumpity gave was "time to grow up and mature". Earlier during introductions, she mentioned that she "had no power but is responsible for a bunch of things". She also said it is "crazy and ridiculous" that she has been with Linden Lab for 13 years. Speculation: When Grumpity says "has no power", I suggest that means that in a privately owned business such as LL, the owner ultimately has ALL the power. Within her sphere, she has power. Note that the Lab Gab title places her name first and in the photo, she is flanked by Mojo and Patch.
  14. The solution would be to redo the lake in the middle of the region and lower the water level to the standard 20m. I did notice that draw distance does effect the anomaly, which occurs because regions beyond the draw distance are filled in with water, using the water elevation of the region you are in. So if you TP to the lake in Hammond Park with dd of 128, you see the anomaly. If you then reset your dd to 1024, the anomaly persists but moves away from you.
  15. In the days before blitzscaling, "financial growth or death" was a law of business. Linden Lab is a mystery in that it appears to have NOT grown for over a decade. As they are private, we have little info on what is really going on... Waterfield Group (the owners) perhaps see Linden Lab as a (temporary) cash cow while they build a business with Tilia. This suggests that everyone at Linden Lab is on budget. Reducing expenses and improving productivity are priorities. If Governance takes action on an AR or support fixes a problem, be grateful. Sid has described Lab Gab as "nothing more than an advertorial". Spot on. However, Lab Gab DOES PROVIDE useful information. Patch, Grumpity, and Mojo collectively form the operational head of Linden Lab... what in a normal (public) company would be the CEO. Lab Gab shows us what they desire to have us know. We will hear their voices and observe their interactions, so that might inform on their emotions and perhaps, priorities.
  16. my two cents... 1. For most of us, we should only do things in SL that bring us joy. You should be doing photography because you enjoy it. 2. There are only two people you need to please, yourself and your client, should you have one. 3. An image should stand on its own merits. How it was made or how long it took to make it is mostly irrelevant. 4. Edit, edit, and edit. NEVER exhibit anything that is not your best work. 5. Try not to care about arbitrary social media metrics. Never enter photo competitions. 6. Find current and historic photographers that resonate with you and study their work. For example, I found William Eggleston to be very influencing.
  17. I asked "Why did Grumpity change her avatar"? (hey, this is a legit question, enquiring minds want to know... I changed my avatar, head actually, last year simply to have access to more makeup, so there)
  18. Stockholm Syndrome? I am still waiting for an answer to the question "Can you recommend what residents can do to reduce lag?" which was promised at SL19B in front of TENS of avatars. I am confident the lack of a response after all these months is not Strawberry's fault, as she is absolutely delightful.
  19. Realize that a much of mainland and all of Bellisseria is connected to the Blake Sea. (Sansara remains mostly unconnected and there are pockets of isolation here and there.) Connected by protected water means you can make the journey by boat without interruption by orbs, banlines, or missing regions. My point is that if you do the CLPP thing, there may be many connection options. If you really want to be in the Blake Sea neighborhood, look for opportunities to become a tenant in an existing community.
  20. This topic is about First Generation Linden Homes. I started it because people seemed to want to talk about it in another place, but it was off-topic there. So we can talk about it here and be on topic. "Theme Water World" is a different topic. I agree with @Abnor Mole, you are describing Mainland. If you perceive Bellisseria to be less laggy, it is because it may have been designed in a way that reduces lag, sometimes, maybe, hard to say. If you turn Belli into mainland water world, would you not just get Mainland lag?
  21. Please refrain from making things personal or assume you understand the motivations of people. I do not dislike Fantasy Homes. I have an opinion that Linden Lab is not very good at planning sometimes. In the forum, it should be possible to discuss matters based on the facts as we know them. If my posts upset you, you don't have to read them.
  22. I believe that community in Second Life is based on common interest, not location. We are free to pursue any interest or activity in SL regardless of where we rez our things. My question is, why? The 14K+ V1 residents have not chosen to relocate to Bellisseria. If by this you mean that it is terrible to not have all themes available, I agree. Might we have all themes available if stockpiling Fantasy Homes for V1 residents was not a priority? I went to a region on each of the four V1 continents and found them all to be running Second Life Server 2023-01-20.577734, same as on my Mainland region.
  23. The first generation Linden Homes appeared in 2010 and consists of (in the ball park of) 1100 regions. A region may contain (in the ball park of) 40 to 50 512 sqm parcels. These regions are connected and isolated as four island continents which also may contain sandboxes and connected protected water. There are four pre-mesh home themes. The landscaping and road infrastructure is minimalist. When Bellisseria was released in 2019 April, first generation residents had the option of abandoning their current home and selecting a Bellisseria home, assuming they had they had sufficient tier available. This option remains today. As of 3/2/2023, the website-who-shall-not-be-named reports that 14,767 residents remain. @Patch Linden recently posted This strategery [sic] prompts a few questions. 1. Why will the plug be pulled on V1 Linden Homes? You have 14K+ residents paying for memberships and spread out over 1100 regions. That is (in the ball park of) 12 per region. What is the problem? 2. Why develop Bellisseria for any purpose other than to provide compelling homes for NEW residents or residents that might want to upgrade from the current 512/1024 paradigm? It would seem wise to NOT compromise Bellisseria development with first generation considerations. Why not let the first generation homes die a natural death? Today I observed that there are less than 50 avatars active across a V1 continent. Does this not suggest an opportunity to reduce server resources and turn V1 land into a cash cow, so long as it exists? UPDATE: Thanks to Nika for pointing out that 4 V1 continents exist, 1 due east of Jeogeot and 3 due south.
  24. I am flattered that @Abnor Mole's response to my 2048 Houseboat image was to suggest that it had been photoshopped rather than to denounce it as heresy. Thanks. (the image he posted to make this point is not appearing anymore, don't know why). In fact, the image was constructed by derendering a houseboat and divider dock and placing boats (sat upon by alts) in the scene. Photoshop was used for the marina dock and touching up the border lines.
