  1. may I suggest a song from 1965 that is prescient:
  2. Ebbe, would you please discuss in-world building in Sansar. How will it be similar or different from building in-world in Second Life. Will we be, for example, building with voxels? prims? or something completely new. Will there be a built in way to create or edit Mesh in-world. Thank You in advance for enlightning us.
  3. " I would prefer to see this done without the direct invovlement of land payments to LL." Paying directly to LL is a major advantage of the Mainland, no middleman, no wondering if the landlord will abandon SL or decide your activities/builds do not fit with their vision. Nothing against the land barons, I just have no desire to deal with them.
  4. Why I like the mainland 1- I can own as much land as I want with no setup fees! 2- There is a sense of shared community, unstructured, anarchistic, sometimes contentious, but it is us, and we are it. 3- There is no middleman, I pay my tier to LL and don't worry about a landlord changing the rules or quitting SL 4- There are Mountains!!!. Brocade (92,149,191)
  5. I realize it is early days, but Could you please comment on intent if not specifics. 1- Names. It is tempting to assume that our SL names will be reserved, but I have learned not to assume. (Can you immagine the chaos if they are not?) 2- L$. Given that both platforms will be using the same currency, will we be able to transfer cash between them? Any clues as to how that might work?
  6. Confirmed Mastro, region restart resolved the problem. TY
  7. The old problem of diagonal regions not rezing is back again with this restart. From my home mainland region of Brocade all 4 diagonal regions did not rez today. The symptoms are the same as SVC-8130 / BUG-1521. If you fly into an unrezed region it appears, but if you turn around the region you just left will vanish after a minute or two.
  8. This has been a grid wide issue since some time Friday (at least). Finally made it to the Grid Status page Sunday afternoon. We could wish for a better response time at what is supposed to be the official notification page for problems.
  9. Mastro, why do events like this not make it to the Grid Status page? It seems like that page has degenerated to scheduled stuff and emergency notices given hours after the event first happened.
  10. The Interest List seems to have broken the Text Clients, METAbolt sees no near by objects at all, Radegast sees some but not all.
  11. Once again there is a problem with diagonal regions not rezing. This week 3 out of the 4 corners do not show (last week it was all of them not showing). We learned a few things last week when Maestro came in response to my bug report: 1-it does not matter what server version the diagonal region is on. We have 2 Main Channel, 1 LeTigre & 1 Magnum diagonals here in Brocade. 2-restarting the diagonal region causes it to show (fixes the problem), as does the RC rollout the next day for the RC regions. 3-there is little point in putting in bug reports again and again since they are quickly closed as a known issue. Opinion: This seems to me to have more to do with the way rollouts are done than the server code itself. For quite some time the issue seemed, at least from here, to be fixed. Now it is back with a vengence.
  12. Actually I posted on Tuesday, well before the RC channels rolled. However, you are half right, since the RC roll Wednesday we are back to only one diagonal region not rezing.
  13. After today's restart to 12.10.08.265664 3 of the 4 diagonal regions from my Mainland home (Brocade). The one that does draw (Mullein) is not even the closest to where I am standing. My drawdistance at login was 256M. When I increase my draw distance to 512M I see regions beyond the diagonal ones, with the diagonal ones being holes in the grid.
  14. Some simulator servers are running 7 regions! I do not believe there are any instances of 1 region/server left (except for special LL regions perhaps). Rod has also announced that there are new servers on the way although we have no details on how they will be configured. As far as I know Region > Simulator assignments are based on an algorithm that LL is understandably not sharing. There was a time when a region owner could request a particular server class, not sure that is true any more. The big Land Barons probably have enough of an inside track so their "request" holds more weight.
  15. Rollouts complete here on the mainland and still many of the same problems mentioned earlier. - Region crossings are far from stellar, worse than before. -Items right in front of you not rezing for a long time, some linksets only rezing in part until selected. -Objects vanish when you cross the region boundary. Sometimes a nearby region will completely blink out for a moment. -Objects on minimap turned red after a while. Other than that is seems to work okay
  16. I have noticed the same things you have, but not in such detail, thanks for the work. I have taken to keeping my draw distance at 192M, just short of the big jump and the statistics floater open. You are right about the abruptness of the jump, it also manifests in location, before the last RC restarts I had defined a line showing a roughly square area in the SW corner of Brocade with a jump of ~1000kbps with draw distance at 32M! The diagonal region seems to be key (in my case it was LeTigre).

  18. Rolig: If http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:What_does_%22SLT%22_stand_for%3F is still valid LL uses PST or PDT, whichever is valid. Although I do not recall SL making the transition. Peewee: Group notices in GMT was what I noticed that made me ask this question.
  19. SL displays PST/PDT on the clock, IMs and chat. I think events and group notices are in GMT. Is there a complete list of what time zone is used where? Why is there not one standard instead of confusion? This answer should be in the Wiki somewhere but I can not find it.
  20. Lag: We have already implemented some server-side performance enhancements to improve lag and there will be far greater focus on that area in the months to come.:smileyhappy:the talk on every group chat I follow is how lag has gotten worse over the last few weeks! My experience is the same and as best I can trace the cause it goes to the LL network or the sim servers. I do not mean to suggest that you are not trying. More toys all the time on the servers, display names, 42 groups ---- lag increases with time. When the servers finally break someone is for sure to blame the one really useful thing to come along in some time, Megaprims.
  21. Web merchandise sales volume grew 5.8% in Q4 = in world sales down by at least that much! In world sales support tier --- your primary revenue stream. Replacing stores with magic boxes is a loosing strategy for everyone!
  22. There is a word, or a redefinition of an old word, for slipping information into the public domain without permission. Since the majority of SL users do not read these blogs they would not know of the exposure even if there was an Opt Out function. We are being !Zuckered!
  23. Welcome aboard Rod; I pretty much second all the comments above. One project for that alt; explore some of the places you might not normally go. Second Life is incredably diverse and like most noobs it will take a while to learn tollerance. A partial list of some things to get used to as they are quite normal in SL: -Furries -D/s & BDSM -Child Avatars -Upwards of 30% of female avatars are RL male -Many people have sex in SL, some have a lot! -Everyone complains about Linden Lab, we are here because there is no better alternative, and we love our inventories a little bit too much. (how's that for a backhanded complement?) -The amazing builds and art galleries that LL generally likes to promote usually get one visit. It is the fun places we go back to again and again. -Emotions are emotions, the same in SL and RL. Friends are friends; love is love. There is no "just" in front of SL emotional connections. -Almost everyone in SL is willing to help make SL a better place. Often the best thing the Lab can do is stay out of the way. Always remember to set some time aside each day to just have fun in the world you command. Good Luck to us all Shug
  24. I leave them on most of the time. They do not look right when you are within them near land or objects so I turn them off then, and sometimes when I am cameraing around my sim they are in the way. Overall they are a nice visual effect, especially at sunset/sunrise. Sometimes they give an added feeling of distance, look at my thumbnail pic.
