Sorry, no. It wasn't ever allowed. At no time did Linden Lab ever allow you to share IMs with anyone over their service/systems. They banned users for doing this even before my time (2006) if it was reported. Nor was it all that difficult to remove an RLV enabled collar: Log in using Linden Lab's client, remove. If that didn't work, use the runaway function or safe word. We could continue on this for some time but as said a moment ago, the only users that have actual authority concerning their information are... Kitty Barnett and Marine Kelly. Outside of those two, you're going to get responses from users that either never encountered those functions or users that are inflating the actual functionality back then for some reason. I DO remember that back then, many collar makers simply did not include safeguards or tried questionable methods in their efforts to appeal to sections of BDSM users.

You'd have to directly ask either Kitty Barnett or Marine Kelly directly to see if what you were told is at all accurate. From all other accounts (including Kitty herself in the earlier linked 2009 era thread) such a thing simply never existed, not in the official code for RLV or its derivative anyway.

That's just it, the ToS never allowed such a thing. It may have been clarified but even as far back as 2806, IMs were considered/treated as private by Linden Lab and their ToS, making any method of sharing them using their service or any part of their software "illegal". That includes the client software, among other things.

Which one, I'm not seeing anything... Then again, I've got a fairly high bar when it comes to calling someone an arse.

Any scripted application would require a corresponding function in the actual RLV code. Which would require one or the other party to be using an unauthorized third party client or functionality in the original RLV client that was later removed upon demand by Linden Lab.

That's nice. Unless it was in the original, dedicated client, it never existed. Not in any client that wasn't designed with questionable motives anyway.

Where did you get that information from? The spy app is for local chat and - for as long as I can remember - has never had the ability to transmit IMs to anyone except the user you are communicating with. It should be noted that I've used RLV and its derivative for years now, ever since it started to be included into other clients outside of its dedicated client.

There's no math to do and if you recall, I also gave you answers earlier in the thread. For some things you've asked or assumed in this thread, you can try searching (through Google) for documentation. For other things, you'll have to take the word of those who have been here for a while - the Lindens don't generally respond.

Question one, regarding IM hacking: No. Question two, regarding location tracking: Not without scripts. Those are the short answers. To expound slightly on the second (and add to Maddy's post above): Users have a tendency to add Picks to their profiles while at locations they frequent or while at home, in both cases the Pick often has nothing to do with the location it was created at. Because so many log in "At Home" it is trivial to guess that the most frequent location used for Picks may well be a user's Home location. That covers that particular case. If you have friends, they have the option of sharing their location with you and vice versa.

While I do agree that Ipecac misinterpreted what Lindall wrote ... Unfortunately, misinterpretation comes in many forms. One of these is indeed ascribing a meaning to the written/typed word that was not intended and does indeed rest with the one reading. However "everyone" interpreting a statement a particular way does not mean said way is correct. Take it from someone often on the speaker/typist/writer end of that - others inserting their own thoughts/reasoning/mindset into what I say/type/write.

As to the topic at hand ... User X inflates their traffic count by using alternate accounts or unregistered bot accounts and thus "tricking" other users that link traffic with popularity .... Who the heck cares? For web based search, traffic was long ago removed as any truly major influence on the results. Legacy search? If you're going by traffic, you're doing it wrong - many of course, having been doing it wrong for a very long time.

Oh for .... Such an oh so lovely derail over what ought to be a simple enough concept to grasp: s/he is read or spoken as "she" or "he" - it is contextual and like it or not just as correct as using "they" and derivatives. Now would the two of you knock it off? It is bad enough that one of you is notorious for not backing down and trying to use semantics to "win" an argument or "debate" that either is not even present or that you bloody well started in the first place while the other purposely acts obtuse (depending on the topic) in an attempt to garner responses. Oh for ... So, which is it hmm? Should users post to a pre-existing thread if they have something to add or have a comment to make or should they make a new thread? Make up your (collective) minds. Better yet - see a thread that is obviously fairly old? Move right on by if you're that put out. And yes, you can tell how old a thread is: Right under the bloody title it tells you who started it and when. Most recent post is over on the right with the forum avatar of said recent poster. This is something present even when the forum has auto sized to Mobile view.
