  1. OK, I was just thinking that this is not so off topic that it couldn't have gone into the Lifestyles sub-forum. But then this other thought crossed my mind. I wonder if a thread on the toilets of Second Life would survive moderation? Dare I try?

So they just assumed that no male in the history of mankind ever put the seat down? Maybe none of them, male or female, had ever seen a toilet seat in the down position and were so overcome by the revelation it could go down that it completely overwhelmed their senses.
  3. Last summer there was a great thread in the old Jive forums about favorite Debug settings, archived here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussions/What-s-your-favorite-debug-setting-you-d-like-to-share-We-need/m-p/314098/highlight/true#M128263 . As I have been helping some new people In World recently and also seeing new people logging into the Lithium forums, I thought this could be a great topic to revisit. So what are some of your favorite debug settings? Also, if you have a Wiki or other links on that setting would be great if you could include them. One of mine is hiding the library in inventory. To me it helps greatly in reducing inventory clutter. 1. Enable the Advanced menu. (CTRL/ALT/D) 2. Choose Advanced > Debug Settings. 3. Type noinventoryLibrary. It autocompletes. 4. Select TRUE. 5. Close the Debug Settings window and restart the Viewer. from: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/How_does_the_Library_work ETA to add, it will be useful if you can explain what the setting does. Thanks!!!!

  6. I am coming up on my fourth SL birthday which makes me a young one compared to me. I came into SL during the major growth of 2007 and it was truly an exciting time to be here. Everything seemed fresh and new and there was the shared excitement of exploring so much of the world with others who had just joined. My Friends list just seemed to be bulging with names. I became close with quite a few folks. But time has a way of passing by. A day in SL can seem like a week, a week can seem like a month and a month can seem like a year. Sadly ( at least to me) most of my original friends are gone. And for me too it has seemed harder to make new friends. But one thing that I finally realized was that some of that was really my fault. I had stopped introducing myself to new people. So as I have been out and about I have started making it a point to initiate conversations. I go to a lot of live music shows. I browse profiles and when I see something I like I use it to open the conversation. Doing this I have started making some good new friends. It's been a slow process but it is working. Writing this now also reminds me of one of the things that I did when I first started SL. When ever I'd meet someone I'd ask them to show me their favorite place in SL. Not just give me a LM but to take me there and show me around. With over 30,000 SIMS I know I haven't seen everything yet. It could be a great way to get to know someone new and maybe discover things you havn't seen yet. Just last week I discovered a Circus and had a ton of fun there walking the high wire among other things.

I'd recommend moving higher for 3 reasons: 1, Neighbors might not like the view being cluttered by a square above their heads. You can address this by using a built that looks more facny instead, like a floating rock or a tiered hanging gardens. 2. At that hight, you're still picking up 'render lag' from the ground objects your camera is having to deal with. 3. Lack privacy. You're at a height that encourages strangers to drop in. Try above 1500m or so for privacy, or above 900 for lag avoidance. And look for a spot with no neighbor sky-builds in camera range. I rent the little place and this was the height when I got it. My Landlord owns the entire SIM. At one time I spoke with him about moving it higher. We did some test positions and I didn't like the lighting at higher altitudes. By default I keep my draw set to 64 and only increase it as needed when exploring. So I never actually see the terrain below. Also, he has other rental boxes on the SIM at varying heights and has done a great job with the spacing so unless I go to a very high draw distance I don't see any one else and would have to zoom in if i wanted to 'perve' them. As far as strangers go, in the three plus years I've had almost zero problems. Actually the few strangers I have had traced back to a prior guest who thought I wouldn't mind if they used my 'toys' while I was off line. Guess again. My home is my sanctuary. (I do have a landlord supplied security orb but for whatever crazy reason I may have I simply do not want to turn it on). The SIM stays very quiet....the most Ava's I've seen present on the map at one time is maybe eight and that is rare. Usually it is only 3 or 4 other renters. So it stays very lag free. Maybe call me stubborn but I am happy with the way it is. But I do appreciate your concern.....I don't want to discount that.
  9. I got promoted also. Will this make me more desirable to the spammers? Will it make me more desirable overall?

Might be a good feature to have if it doesn't exist already. Looking into this issue now Update: If you receive a private message that is spam, like the one noted above: Send a private message to Katy Moderator. Please note the spam senders name and include the text or a screen shot. It will be investigated. Also, remember to place the spam sender on ignore after you report it to the moderator. If Katy Moderator is lonely, I'm single and available. but seriously speaking, thank you Lexie. /me wonders if Katy is blonde, brunette, redhead or transgendered.

  16. One day I am going to ask someone who has that 'you consent' in their profile why they have it. All it smells to me of is drama queen or king. But to answer your question, no it does not override the TOS or the CS. You could just as easily put a disclaimer in your profile that reads, "By talking with me you agree that you will not post our conversations without my express written consent." The only entity which can modify the TOS and the CS is Linden Lab. Somewhere in all the jargon it does state that. This has been the subject of many threads. Here is a link to a prior discussion: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussions/Yet-Another-Discussion-of-Chat-Log-Disclaimers/td-p/511565/highlight/true/page/2

  19. That was the same message I received. Now if she had said that she was a bisexual furrie skunk looking to hook up with a Martian, then she might have got my attention. The more you know..........................

  21. TY for taking care of this Lexie.
  22. I keep having a problem with something not remembering which threads I have perused. And despite the fact I have my preferences set to display threads with newest posts first, they keep appearing in random orders in my browser (Firefox). Cookies are enabled on my computer. Whats even weirder is that during the same log in session it varies from page to page. The picture above is from the "Off Topic" page. The next picture is from the Lifestyles page where everything appears OK. I have been seeing this for a few days and it is hit and miss across topics when and how the pages appear.
  23. The change in the resident name choice (user name) at sign up is going to keep getting more problematic exponentially as it continues. It ignores the fact among other things that we do form relationships here and if I have seven different Mary's in my friend's list keeping track of them by number becomes an exercise in mental gymnastics. Even now I with minimal use of display names among the friends I have, I am having to look at the user name to double check whom I am speaking with. It is already a headache. The one relief is that the use has been mainly limited to friends who are partnered so while they have adopted their partners surname, fortunately they are not changing it every week.
  24. I really like using the "All Posts" function in the Forums to find the most recent posts. However the way the subject is listed is confusing. For some threads the topic title is listed in bold text, the first post in the image, whereas other times it is a quote from the response, as in the second thread in the image. This gets confusing because as you browse the page you can open the same thread multiple times because there is nothing to tell you it is the same topic being listed with different answers appearing as the subject.
