  1. The original implementation simply was not thought through thoroughly. If I recall correctly the largest group to complain were the Merchants who had and have a legitimate need to know who is who when dealing with customers. Some have suggested one of the reasons LL dropped the original system was that it was too 'difficult.' People weren't getting past the registration stage just cause they couldn't find the name choice they wanted. If anything, IMHO, they should have went with a first name/last name option. Not the single name choice where if someone wants "Mary," they need to be Mary2538708363972683562. When I signed up I wanted to use my RL first name. Sadly it was taken with every available surname at the time. So I used a variant of my name. Silly thing now is people oft times read it as "Pierre." It's "Perrie," rhymes with "Teri." I may make love like a French man but I am not French.
  2. I don't specifically volunteer my time, but I am generally always willing to help. I have taught many a nOOb some basic building and editing skills.

  4. With Spring upon us and the warmer weather I have decided that it is time for me to get out of my swimming pool and into the open seas. I've got my scuba gear out and am looking for places to dive. Thanks ahead of time for your suggestions.
  5. Shekinah Umaga wrote I am (before pregnancy): Breast size 70; Breast buoyancy 34; Breast cleaverage 44 Thanks Shekinah I am sorry, but any buoyancy below 50% puts you at risk of drowning and will not be able to obtain Coast Guard certification. As far as "cleaverage" goes, I would suggest using a scalpel instead. It's hard to do fine work with a cleaver. Although I have seen some awesome chain saw sculptures.
  6. Tigo Volare wrote: I couldnt agree more, bragging about the amount of money raised, in a club where no one asked them to talk about it, thats just kinda sad. But Perrie, I'm wondering how do you verify if someone has a direct link to the organisation they claim to be raising money for? I mean, you can call the organisation and ask if a donation has been made, but even IF they reveal that information, it would be too late, the fundraise would already be over. Is there any way of telling, while, or before the fundraise starts? How can you tell by just someones profile? The simplest thing is to ask the Fundraiser if they have a direct association with the charity. While some Fundraisers might get offended by the possible implication that they may be dishonest, most I believe would understand your concerns. Another tool actually is Google. I type the name of the charity along with the words 'second life' into the search. I have found useful info that way. Beyond that I'd say stick with charities you trust. I wish I knew an easier answer.
  7. Years ago I heard someone recommend that the best thing to do is pick one charity and stick with it. Otherwise you could go nuts with all the solicitations. Of course disasters do happen so I have no problem adding extra to those things. It can be hard to document the legitimacy of those collecting for relief funds in SL. While Linden Lab does not get involved in inter resident disputes, committing fraud is a banable offense. Last night while I was attending a live performance in SL someone came into the club and started bragging in open chat how a particular Merchant had raised over $80,000 US in SL for relief efforts in Japan. Personally, I am skeptical about this sum though I did do some math with a friend and it is remotely possible. I'd sure like to see the proof. While many in the club 'applauded' this announcement I was personally offended. What they were really doing was spamming for the Merchant. There are many in SL who actually do not like this merchants products and it has been the subject of many blogs. With out going into further detail ( there were web sites listed in the individuals profile with other questionable sums listed for other charitable causes), I will say that there are some clearly legitimate charities in SL such as the Relay For Life. Stick with those who have a direct and verifiable link with the organizations that are being solicited for.
  8. Would it be possible to make a mobius strip in SL? And please, no punning.

Ahem, they started their store closing sale if my memory serves me correctly six months ago. I distinctly remember taking several of my Lady friends there before Xmas for some shopping sprees. Some very nice clothes there and at the sale prices some extremely nice deals. But still, me wonders how long a 'store closing sale' is supposed to last.

Oh, and I do a little cross-dressing on the side! Unfortunately Marigold isn't a unisex name - but here I am in all my male glory, having a leisurely Sunday in a robe that cost L$43, and soft snuggly slippers, which cost L$40 for two pairs (one male, one female, and they are transferable as is most of Wetherby's merchandise). Very nice looking slippers. I'm just not sure about the white socks.
  13. BTW, would I have been better off posting this in the Fashion sub forum? There are so many sub-forums I forgot that it was there.
  14. Darrius Gothly wrote: honerken wrote: What are we, 4 years old? Men are intelligent enough to dress themselves in real life, why would they need a woman to do it for them in SL? I believe you misunderstood the point of the OP. It's not about need, not in the least. It's about fun, sharing, relaxing and just being content to be with one another. ^^^^^ This ^^^^^ I didn't mean to infer that men do not know how to dress themselves. Though there are a few who could use some help. I will confess that in my hippie days I was known to wear horizontal striped shirts with plaid pants or visa versa. Thank God there are no pictures of me like that. They could be used for black mail. And while in some cases I could possibly see Storm's point about empowering the women, that was not the intent here either. If you are happy with your man always wearing torn newbie jeans, please don't try and change him. This was not what I was trying to do here. Regarding the spending limit, I put it there because I didn't want anyone to think they couldn't do this because of the cost. Perhaps I made it look a bit like a competition to see who could dress their man the best. My apology for this. I just thought it would be a fun thing to do. I personally own several formal outfits that I paid 700 to 800L for. I know some of them are not cheap. Lastly, thank you everyone for your responses.

Is it an Orgy for Life or are fundraisers just not allowed in general here. p.s. I do support RFL in SL.
  16. Great topic. I am going on four years now in SL and I have to say it's been quite a ride. I have done and experienced so many things during that time. It has been as I've heard others say, I lived a month here last week in SL. I joined SL during the population explosion of 2007. Almost from the start I began asking people as I met them to take me to their favorite place in SL. I think it helped me get rooted and grounded here quickly and helped me get comfortable with 'navigating' through SL. I started making friends, many who were just as new as I was and we shared a lot of awe and wonder at what we had found. We watched out for and helped each other freely and willingly. I didn't sense the paranoia that I sometimes see here now from people who have been burned in relationships and other things. Everything seemed wide open to explore. Ideas, feelings, opinions, relationships, sexuality. It was all available to do. I don't know that there is much that I did not at least dabble in at some point. So as to what has changed. Well for one thing most of my original friends are no longer or very rarely on the grid. They are still the people I knew most intimately and who knew me most intimately. We both laughed and cried so much together as we explored this world. I really miss some of them. The second thing is while I still admire many of the things people build and create in SL, I don't always have the same new found awe and wonder. Great admiration, yes. But it's still not quite the same. Thirdly, I have become a little bit relationship shy or reluctant. It's funny to me that my original group of friends, we were very open and honest with each other and I never got burnt. Now it's become a little harder to gain my trust. And I'm not so fast to hop on that pose ball as I used to be. I do not mean the above to sound like I do not still enjoy SL. I do very much. Just that in some ways I am slightly more conservative than I used to be. Thank you for asking Quinn.
  17. Ladies (and possibly men), are you tired of always shopping for yourself? Are you tired of your man always wearing the same T Shirt and torn newbie jeans every time you go out dancing? Here's your chance to do something about it. One of the ofttimes frustrating thing for us men in SL is finding decent clothes. It seems that for men we don't have a tenth the selection that you ladies do. And if you are looking for high quality men's fashions, the selection becomes even smaller. I have in my almost four years in SL easily trashed over half the clothes I have purchased as unacceptable quality when worn. Then comes the question of style. There are a few blogs devoted to men's fashions and 90% of what I see in them I would not wear. It is either too metro-sexual or looks too twenty something-ish. OK, I'll admit, I am middle aged and I do not want to look like a teenager here. So I had this crazy thought to post this challenge. Come up with three new outfits for your men. One for lazing about, one casual and one business or formal. And post the pictures here as well as with the info as to where you got the individual items. Degree of difficulty, no new skin, shape or hair and purchases must be made In World and you can not spend more than $1000L. I am willing to volunteer as a guinea pig for someone. If any other men would like to volunteer you can do so here. p.s. If you think this idea is totally nuts on my part, you are also free to tell me that here also. It was just this crazy idea that went through my head that I thought could be fun for every one. p.p.s. don't forget the shoes.

  19. No I have never had a premium account. Not owning land I have never seen the benefit to it. I have always rented. I've been in the same place over three years now. Have an awesome landlord. I was greatly concerned when Linden Lab came up with the idea of Linden homes. I can only guess that they came up with the idea to try to improve the new user experience and to improve new user retention. My one big concern was (and still is) for the land owners in SL. I have in RL been in the position in business of having my supplier also becoming my competitor. It is not an easy situation to be in. Amazingly both sides (my customers and my suppliers) saw the potential for extra dollars in the situation but it backfired on both of them. It actually resulted in a sales drop because they removed the added value of my expertise in dealing with a product (music & videos) that requires a great sensitivity to niche markets. Literally am album that was selling in one town, the next town over you couldn't give it away. Maybe it is wrong for me to compare that situation with what the Lab is doing, but it is not an easy situation to be in as a business person.
  20. Thank you Darrius for this concise explanation of how the "Limit Buy" function worked. I had been looking at using it myself. I wasn't happy with getting only 249L for my dollar the other day. I seemed to remember it wasn't too long ago I was getting over 260L if my memory serves me right. But I looking at the buy and sell charts I was concerned if I placed an order to get more Lindens for my buck that it could take forever. The other thing that I am still not clear on is will my account (my method of payment) be charged when I place my order or when it is completed. I did read in the FAQ that you could cancel an order but this was not clear. What's the longest you you've had to wait for a buy order to be completed? Thanks. P.S. I wonder if the reason that I am not seeing open sell orders listed above the 249L mark today is because the buy order's are getting filled before that data updates.
