  1. Is the item no copy and no transfer? Usually it's one or the other. With those permissions, right away I would steer clear because to me it reads 'very anally retentive merchant'. It's a shame that this happens, and merchants really should lean a bit when it comes to this problem. I guess filing a ticket or forgetting about it are your only options. One more thing, does the marketplace acknowledge your purchase? If so, I would resort to using the rating system with a review explaining your failed attempts to get the item redelivered. Edit to add: Although it would be ideal to have a delivery system we can rely on, ultimately it is the merchants responsibility to redeliver or refund when something goes wrong. The merchant made the decision to use the marketplace to sell his/her items, not the other way round. If I ordered an item in RL and the delivery truck never showed up then it is the companies responsiblity to redeliver the item, not tell me I should deal with the delivery people.

They wanted to know what was wrong with my server. I responded within 3 hours as soon as I saw it in email, and said my product doesn't use a server, the message they were getting was from SL's server, and asked if they could create a new notecard as a test. No reply. Three days later I wrote again and asked if the product was now working okay. No reply. I see your point, but did it cost you L$10,000? Although price isn't the issue because even paying L$10 deserves cusomer support. IMO the customer doesn't owe the merchant anything.
  3. Here is something I just thought of when reading your post and seeing the price of the item. Before investing so much money on an item, this is what I would do - IM or send a notecard to the creator saying you are considering buying the item and do they offer costomer support if anything goes wrong or if you can't work out how to use it. No reply or an unsatisfactory reply then you move on. As a merchant I would send back an IM within 24 hours guaranteeing my support. This way you have made contact and you get an idea of who you are giving your money to. Edit to add - Also I am assuming that you didn't purchase from the marketplace as you didn't leave a rating. It might also be a good idea to make your purchase from the marketplace so that at least you have the ability to rate the item and leave a review to make others aware of the problem. It might also prompt the merchant to get in touch with you.

  5. Yes, agree with all points. I would also like Quick Fill to fill all fields including images and related items. Then I can go through it and change whatever. In Xstreet we could create templates. Maybe give us back the ability to create templates to use as Quick Fill as well as using an existing listing to completely quick fill all fields (including related items and images). I often use the same Images when I make complete packs or rezzer versions of an item. The main reason we continue to lack the things we need is because the marketplace dev team aren't merchants and don't feel the frustrations. Being told what we need doesn't give them any idea of what a difference it would make. I don't get how things take months and months and months to see the slightest progress.
  6. Having to go into settings is a headache trying to figure out what does what in the many lists of options. Most people would probably just settle with default, so - By default new posts should bump a thread to the top of the list so that it gets people's attentionBy default the font size should be bigger (maybe this is personal, not sure how others feel)I have to sign in to post everytime, which is OK if it took me back to the page I was on and not to the homepage where I have to navigate back to where I was. When you are responding to a post there is nothing to indicate which post. People will need to use quotes everytime to make it known.Everyday I find something new. Is all this is in the complex lists of options? If so it should be defaults. There are also things I like about it too, but these things are annoying.
  7. Yeah, it kinda defeats the purpose because if only a few people change their settings, bumped and active threads still won't get the attention it did before. Another thing that annoys me is when I decide to post and then sign in, I get taken back to the homepage and then have to navigate back to where I was. There are many things I do like about these new forums, but this annoys me. Maybe someone should start a thread titled 'What annoys me about these new forums'. I would, but I always get told to go to settings and change my options.
  8. Thnay you Madeliefste, although it really should be the default IMO.
  9. This is annoying. In almost every forum that I have used in the past a new post will bump a thread to the top, which lets you know straight away that it is active. Hotly discussed topics remained near the top and got your attention. Old threads could be bumped to the top and get new interest in a topic. Now the threads are ordered by creation date, and new threads will stay at the top even though nobody is responding, whereas the older, more active threads are way down the list and you have to look for them. This means that new posts in older threads will go unnoticed unless you subscribed to it, and other people won't be aware of it so the thread will receive hardly any new activity.
  10. When I started selling my creations I priced them according to what I would be prepared to pay. I was a resident and customer in SL for a long time before I became a seller, and back then I always cringed when I saw anything that cost over L$1000. I thought really hard before buying so I could keep my hobby as inexpensive as possible. I know what it feels like to want something and see it as being too expensive so I price my items relatively low and always charge under L$1000. I'm doing reasonably well, so in my case customers don't think cheap = low value. Most of my customers see my items displayed somewhere in SL (I get told this all the time) and they click it to find creator then probably do a search in market or find my inworld store in my profile. When they find the item of interest it probably is a pleasant surprise to see it is very affordable. I don't know how much better I'd be doing if I had priced my items higher, but I suspect not much better because higher prices also could mean less sales.
  11. SLM sales are much better than Xstreet. Inworld sales are about equal to SLM.
  12. Tara Chester wrote: Awesome numbers. I want to be tuff as you. Thanks Tara, there are 2 of us at TUFF so those are our top 10. And thanks for this useful statistical analysis tool. I also calculated my tracking numbers, which is a great indicator of how well an item is doing in the market, as it takes price into account. So although my top selling item looks great with 1 view per 14 searches and 1 sale per 6 views, the tracking number is 2.3. This is high since the item is priced to sell and not for high profit - works a bit like a freebie for us. Whereas my 4th item can clearly be seen as my best performer with a tracking number of 0.3. For those who want to do the same, it can be done as follows: a. Searches = search/views (this tells you how many times your item appears on a search page for every view it gets) b. Views = views/sales (the number of views per sale) c, Price = Price/100 (e.g. 1 = L$100, 5 = L$500 etc). Rounding off is useful for simplicity. d. Tracking Number = a/b/c
  13. Following Tara's method of searches = search/views and views = views/ sales Product Searches Views Sales Price Root Category 1 14 6 1 1 Home and Garden 2 34 6 1 1 Home and Garden 3 13 12 1 3 Home and Garden 4 17 11 1 5 Home and Garden 5 32 5 1 1 Home and Garden

I see one with 98 ratings, but I don't see any others that support your above statement. Did you lose your ratings in the migration from Xstreet? It's very sad if you lost all those 100s of ratings :smileysad:. If this happened to you I can understand your obssession. But look on the bright side :smileyvery-happy:you seem to be doing very very well getting them back. I checked out your newest item and you have nothing to complain about. Be happy :smileyhappy:, you are doing much better than most. Not need for greed. As for talking to customers with the aim of scoring a rating or two - I am often in long IMs with customers receiving praise for my creations and then getting on to other topics. I am invited to visit their sims, which I do and I compliment them on the decor and landscaping. I have gained many new friends this way, But I have never and will never impose on my customers by asking them to rate my items. I think it's rude. If a merchant asked me to rate an item I bought from them, even if I did say I love it, I would feel uncomfortable with the request.
  15. *Wonders if they could give us a font between 10 and 12*
  16. Ishtara wrote: I don't even know how to rate on SLM. Working out how to rate an item is easy. Making an avatar as good as as yours...? I think if you can do that you'll be ok. I'm still scratching my head about what to do with mine.
  17. Robert Galland wrote: I hope they are considering doing away with the requirement that you have to give a written review as well as making the option easier to find. This would also make it easier to game. There should at least be a name to make the person (even if it is an alt) accountable. But being anonymous just makes it too easy.
  18. I feel sorry for people who have to rely on ranking to get sales. Thank god I don't need to rely on it. I don't have the high rankings I had in Xstreet, where several of my boats were on the first 2 pages under 'boat' and 'boats'. Now it's hard to even find one of my boats when doing a search. However it has had no impact on my sales. In fact marketplace sales have increased. My items advertise themselves because they are fairly well displayed all over SL. It's word of mouth and also searching for the creator - free and effective advertising. Customers are not stupid. If you sell crap then customers won't go back. You can game it as much as you like, but it won't have sustainable success. If a low quality item is rated 5 stars with lavish reviews it will trick some customers who will be so upset they will go back and give it the review it deserves - even one of these bad reviews will make others wiser. I've seen it happen. Even when an item is given a lower review than deserved another customer will feel prompted to correct it - seen this too. I don't look at ranking anymore. Today I did for the first time in months, and it could be very depressing if I wasn't succeeding well enough without it. Edit to say: Oh, and I have to use the larger font because I hate the small print. It hurts my eyes. I wish they would default to 12pt instead of 10 pt.
  19. Last time we did Beachbonanza it was summer in America, and it seemed appropriate at the time. I'm in Australia and I remember it was cold when setting up summer/beach themes in some of my listings, but now I'm sweating through a very hot summer. Was it last year? It seems like such a long time ago. I'm thinking it might have been the year before because last summer the new market opened.
  20. yes, I agree with Ami. It seems a very complicated business, all that.

Anyone can look at anything and say 'Well, in my opinion it is moderate'. 'Intimate avatar animations, as long as they do not depict sexual activity that is explicit or highly realistic.' What does this mean? We are using avatars so in my opinion nothing is highly realistic.
  22. What annoys me most is that the merchants who own these items most likely put them in the right category - Mature. And then LL came along and waved their stupid magic filter wand over everything thus exposing pornography to people who do not want to see it. I don't want to see it. There would be many prudish people who don't and might even be shocked. You know, just because you are over 18 doesn't mean you won't be offended by female private parts being shoved into your face. How rude What I don't understand is why they downgraded items from mature to general. The filter should only have been used to upgrade from general to moderate or adult. Why would you downgrade a rating that a merchant decided to place on an item? Just stupid.
  23. You know, it's not only about teens, it's wrong to expose anyone to pornographic images under the heading General. This should be placed as a priority to get this sorted because if LL are worried about being sued then the market should be shut down until this is fixed. You can't classify porno as general while working on your fix.
  24. is it up to us to flag stuff like this? I always have my settings on general because I have no interest in seeing genitals here. Brooke, do we flag or are you still cleaning up the mess?

So using the example I posted, you are in Focus Group #1 and when asked by LL you promote it, I get invited to Focus Group #2 and I express to LL how stupid an idea it was. LL has 2 Merchant Focus Groups, two opposite messages. So... how much guidance do they get from these two groups? Reaction - "Merchants are not commited to either dirction so we will make up out own minds. Agreed, this is my fear, I am compltely opposed to PIOF for sales because of how SL works, I refuse to put PIOF on all of my accounts, that's five points of failure but if these closed user groups find favour with that with no open platform, where is the chance of the opposing view? If I wasn't involved in a Focus Group on ratings/reviews, and it was decided to revert back to the way it was in Xstreet, I would be p*ssed off. I don't want a system where anyone can anonymously dump a 1 star rating on your item with no reason given. Merchants have gained some protection against this, and they should always have some protection.
