I have been saying this for years on the forums but, in the past, the responses were mostly, "Well it's not going to happen." I would have to agree since it hasn't lo these many years later but I agree that, imo, this would go a LONG way in encouraging people to buy land and/or add to the land they already own. I agree with the rest of your post as well, but the tier structure is one of my top concerns about SL.
  3. Same as other posters have said - I would like the opportunity for that 1 out of maybe 50 times I have a strong opinion one way or the other, but the ability to rate in world would not change my shopping habits. (I'm trying to remind myself to always leave a rating/review now when I buy things on the MP. For years, even as a merchant, I hardly even noticed the rating area. *blushes.*)
  4. Josh Susanto wrote: >Due to the kindness of a sister merchant I placed copies of my Magic Boxes on another parcel That also makes sense for now. I just hope you don't have any boxes on box rental sims, though. When The Malefactor finally gets down to the business of messing with those, their malfunction actually will disrupt the behavior of your other boxes (as it did a year ago). My MB copies are on an estate....and...I made a sale today from that particular box location, after a solid week of no sales. Does anyone know how the Magic Boxes "decide" which box to check first? When my store was on an estate, the MBs there were always the ones that delivered even though I always had backups on my mainland parcel. No sales once all boxes were on mainland and now getting a sale the day after putting copies on another estate.

Just recently, like the last couple of days, when I tp from the set connecting my house/workshop, I hover in a "black hole" for a few seconds before landing. I don't have this issue with the store set. The tendency to go into the black hole seems to be related to the distance. Don't expect short hops to go there. I won't say never though. The distance between my house -> workshop is less than 1000m. I've noticed that if I hit one of the movement arrows it will take me out of the black hole immediately.

I can see how that experience would cause you to be cautious. I've never vacuumed the PC (out of curiosity, were you using a regular vacuum or one of those little ones made for PCs that run on batteries?) - I just use canned air and let it "dry out" a bit before putting the case back on. Taking the PC out of the desk is a good move. Computers don't make the most elegant of decor accessories, but beats them burning out.

If it was up to most of the customers it would be more like 10 to 1. ;-) Heh...at my prices I doubt I'd be considered greedy either way. I do plan on sticking with mod/copy though.
  10. Josh Susanto wrote: >Interestingly, I'm getting in world sales during this time and I rarely had in world sales as compared to the MP in the past. If you have no magic boxes on the same land, there would be every reason to assure that nothing goes wrong for you. Does that happen to be the case? I'm not sure what the inference is, but to answer your question everything connected with my business (until this evening) is on my land - my store and all Magic Boxes. This has been the case since I have had no MP sales. Due to the kindness of a sister merchant I placed copies of my Magic Boxes on another parcel so it will be interesting to see if things change sales-wise on the MP this coming week. What is your theory about if I had no Magic Boxes on my land nothing would go wrong for me?
  11. Spica Inventor wrote: My Marketplace sales are up a great deal since many of you reported sales dropping precipitously. Maybe it's that 100% commission cycle through thing that L.L. seems to do regularly. My inworld sales seem to have dropped off a bit however. Anyone else having an unexplainable jump in sales recently? Interestingly, I'm getting in world sales during this time and I rarely had in world sales as compared to the MP in the past. I'm also in a hunt currently and been doing more in world marketing, so that might play into it. I think the theory someone came up with awhile back is as good as any: Groups of merchants on the MP are on a "rotation" so while some merchants are having low, or no, sales, others are reporting increases. In a week or so another group of merchants are the chosen ones to get MP sales, and so forth. :matte-motes-tongue:
  12. Sally Audebarn wrote: Does anyone know why there has been such a sharp decline in sales over the past few days? Or is anyone else experiencing this problem for that matter? Same here - no sales for 7 days on the MP. I started a thread about that wondering if it was because my mainland sim has been offline quite a lot recently, thus taking the Magic Boxes offline. But if you're using DD, then there is another reason apparently.
  13. @ Madeliefste - Thank you for that post. I'm always interested in the reasoning people go through to set perms, prices, etc. Obviously well thought out. @Alicia - Yes, modify perms are a must for me and wouldn't sell something that couldn't be modded, excepting the obvious items within the build that have licensing regulations, ie. those I purchased from others for the build.

I suspect or hope it will pick up again soon. Based on phaedra's response as well we might be in "the group" that doesn't get sales this week. Maybe our number will come up next week.
  15. Josh Susanto wrote: Sim function has to be manipulated in order to again convince people that the magic boxes are a problem, so that they can finally be shut off on 1 October. Why? Because, if the magic boxes are working OK when they get shut off, too much user focus will be put on the fact that DD still will not support a very large number of items. But LL wouldn't really shut off the boxes while DD is incomplete, would they? YES, they WOULD and the WILL. Just in time to mess up your whole 4th quarter marketing plan. But, again, why? So that they can say "we're sorry that you have to pay more for land in order to sell your items in-world instead of on the SLM, but those boxes are just not working anymore for some reason. Getting them shut off has become a more pressing matter than getting DD to support your product." The real reason for the "box failure" being, of course, that sim function has been tampered with, specifically for this purpose. But doesn't tampered sim function also stand to disrupt in-world sales, at least in the short term? Yes. So what's the justification there? The justification is: "F### you". Honestly, this has a ring of truth to it. This is the second (or third) time in a couple weeks that my home sim has been "unavailable" as opposed to maybe 1x every 6-9 months for the past 5 years for a rolling restart - and then it came right back up. *Sighs*
  16. Thank you for responding, Deja. It is definitely easier re: customer issues to offer copy items and knowing that a larger established merchant is now choosing copy/mod confirms my decision to stay copy/mod myself. Most of the items that I have seen lately sold as no copy (and often no mod) are usually more expensive items so I thought maybe there was some correlation along the lines of higher end items are generally no copy. (No this isn't anything to do with the "greed" thread...just musing and trying to learn to be a better creator/merchant as I go along.)
  17. Aveline Stein wrote: I can understand different pricing between copy and transfer versions with furniture somewhat, but for me it is mostly a nuissance. The last time i was shopping for lamps and found some very nice ones, but they were priced 350L and no copy and i needed about 20 of them. Yeah right. Like i am going to spend 7k on the same lousy lamp. >.< Great example. So, knowing that *some* people - and I have no earthly idea of what percentage of my customers it would be - would want say 20 copies, then the idea for me would be to offer them copy at a price I'm comfortable with knowing this.
  18. Deja Letov wrote: Well obviously the best advice I would tell you is get the heck off MB's already LOL But I know your situation and I know that isn't possible or at least easy for you yet. But...until you can rectify that situation, definitely put your boxes in another location. Always have a second backup. Give me a buzz when you see me online tonight and Ill hook ya up with some MB storage on my sim. ) I'm starting to see some benefits of DD. Arrrgggghhh...the sky must be falling!!!! :matte-motes-tongue: That is sweet of you to offer some MB space. I didn't post for that reason, but at this point, that is a very good idea. *Hug*
  19. Alicia Sautereau wrote: With you on that, copy/mod for less headache Personally tho, i won`t buy "no copy" items Thanks, Alicia. Many people responded the same way on no copy when I posted in the general thread. Then I had a couple of people who responded they would only buy transfer items. Definitely can't please everyone. Think I'll just stay with what I'm doing.
  20. phaedra Exonar wrote: I all ways kept MBs on 2 sim, if the sims down so is your MB, I all so tried if possible to have those 2 sims on different server channels so weekly rolling restarts would not effect them both on the same day. Lately the sim I'm on (on mainland) is down 4 to 8 times a day, glad I'm not using MB any more. I don't know if private islands are having the same issues with restarts as main land. I use to have my boxes rezzed at cheap MB hosting places but many have closed down since DD started, you might want to see if any are still around. Even with out using MBs all so had a week with no sales, which has never happened to me before, I just started getting sales again in the last few days. I checked out your shop inworld you have no classified for it and it's not listed in search, I have to wonder if your were getting inworld traffic at your old shop from classified and search listing from estate it was on, if so that may be some thing to look in to doing your self for you new shop location. I all so see that you have your items set to show in search but if you don't have your land set to show in search then the items wont show up ether. Good idea on the MB hosting places for the time being. Re: my inworld store, it *should* be set to show in search. My landlord who owns the parcel came in world last week to specifically set it to show in search. If it is not checked now, then somehow the rolling restart "unchecked" it...gah. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I haven't used the classifieds tab for years so that doesn't have any bearing on the current issue. I have been getting in world sales at the new location, most likely from people finding it due to the hunt I'm in. The week of no sales is MB only, but if you have had a bad sales week as well, it could be one of those MP issues. Thanks, phaedra. ETA: I went in world to check on the Search listing. Showed up for me. Logged in an alt who is not in the land group and Search showed it was *not* checked. Hmmmmm. Typed in my shop name into viewer search...and it showed up. Went to another store that I know is listed in search and when I clicked on the info for that store, the "Show in Search" was also greyed out and not checked there as well. No idea why people besides those in the land group cannot see that, but it is indeed checked.

Darren Scorpio wrote: If the invisible prim is owned by the scammer (logically if he/her has rezed it), then I don't see why the "victim" would be able to A) reset the scripts on the object, or B) The permissions dialog would be received by the object's owner (the scammer) not the the victim. Am I missing something here? I may not have phrased that correctly. I wasn't talking about the victim being able to change the scammer's item perms. If the merchant/victim does not have rez objects and/or run scripts set to everyone, then the scammer could not rez/run the scripts from the item in the first place. I was asking if this would be the best way to assure the scammer cannot use this in a given location. I suppose if the scammer was part of the group that allowed group members to rez objects and/or run scripts, that could be one way the scammer gained access. To use my own example, my shop is on group-owned mainland so one needs to in that group to be able to rez anything on my parcel. The group members are the parcel owner and myself - plus a couple respective alts. It is set to only allow group members to rez items/run scripts.
  22. Aveline Stein wrote: Personally i set my items no mod/copy/trans or mod/copy/no trans. Unless you wish to offer the same item with different permission sets, you are never going to please everyone. Make a decision and live with it. The voices in both the copy as well as transfer camp seem to be almost equally vocal. edit: Purely from a convenience point of view as a merchant, copy items are easier to handle for me by far. No worries about someone asking for their 3rd replacement item because they 'lost' it, and it is easier to do things like updates or have redelivery terminals. Agree with your post Aveline, and thank you for responding. For your copy/mod/no trans items, do you set them at a higher price than if you offered them mod/trans/no copy?
  23. Note: This is not meant to be a Magic Box vs DD debate. I'm getting a new computer soon, really...hopefully....fingers crossed. ;) So today is one straight week I have had no MP sales. This is unusual for my normal sales pattern, even after the MP began getting wierd. Then something occurred to me. Due to the estate sim where my shop had been until recently, I moved my shop to my mainland home parcel. In the past I had my MBs rezzed at the shop on the estate sim as well as backups in my home. The estate sim owner occasionally restarted the sim. Not sure how this works on mainland. Today I could not log in - received the message "Simulator not available." (Was trying to log into my home as usual. I logged in elsewhere, pulled up the map and sure enough, my home/shop sim was offline. Lovely. After it came back online I reset the rezzed MBs, updated them on the old Xstreet MB site, and synched with the MP. I recall way back when people purchasing 16m of mainland just to place their MBs. Not sure if this would be a good idea to find a tiny piece of mainland on another sim. OTOH, *when* I get an updated PC I can then migrate to DD and this won't be an issue. Wondered if anyone else had (or used to have) MBs solely on one sim and if that caused any interruption in service.
  24. Sorry to bring this up again, but I thought I had this issue sorted in my mind, but now I'm rethinking it. Background - When I first began selling I used mod/trans perms since I personally liked being able to hand off an item to an alt, a friend, or even put it in a yardsale. The latter is not really applicable for me anymore. Maybe a year or so into owning my store I received an IM from someone who had purchased an item saying she was disappointed it was not copy instead and that most of the items she sees (talking furnishings, not clothing) are copy. I provided her with a copy version. A month or so ago I took an informal poll on the General Forums as to which set of permissions people prefer. It was almost 50/50 with slightly more tilting to copy due to SL's propensity to eat inventory. I changed the perms on my items to copy/mod, except for specific gift-type items. As I've been doing hunts and looking at other merchants who sell similar items, the permissions are all over the board, but I am seeing quite a bit mod/trans. I definitely like to offer mod perms to give the customer freedom to resize or retexture and am concerned about a customer messing up a mod/trans item and not contacting me to allow me to correct it. The other issue is pricing. Several merchant friends have told me my prices are way too low, but when I priced them I felt it was commensurate with the product/my building level at the time. I'm in the process of creating new items and pricing them a bit higher. I also plan on revamping my older products and can then increase the prices accordingly. My dilemma boils down to: 1. Copy/Mod/No Trans - Customer can mode an item to their heart's content and not have to worry about messing it up. Downside: Customer rezzing an infinite number of the item and, due to my lower pricing, I'm losing money. 2. Mod/Trans/No Copy - Customer can still mod the item, plus be able to give it as a gift, transfer to an alt or friend. Downside: Customer breaking a mod. Hopefull said customer would contact me, return the item, and allow me to replace it. Decisions, decisions. What has worked for you?
  25. I've heard of this invisible prim in front of vendors before - some years back. Seems old things cycle around periodically. This one is easy to miss as the OP states. I've even heard of invisible prims place in front of a merchant's vendors so the sales money goes to the scammer. What I'm wondering is how these people manage to put an invisible prim on someone else's land, unless of course create objects. I would think run script for others would need to be on as well, but having very little scripting info, would like to hear from someone more experienced how this could be done. Also, would turning on see transparancey (CTRL+ALT+T) show the invisprim?
