  1. I'm not sure what you mean by "wasn't given the option to return it". In the official viewer (v3.2.8) and Firestorm (v4.0.1), the option is always enabled. When selected, you get the "are you sure" dialog (if you didn't turn it off). If you OK the dialog, the object will either disapper or you'll get a message that it won't return due to permissions. Also, I've noticed that an unrotated cube has to overhang by 0.005m or more. So there's a small buffer there. I didn't test sculpts, meshes, or Linden plants.
  2. Nice! Just tested it. Alt's object totally on neighbor's land, I could not return (expected behavior). Move the object so that it's root is still on neighbor's land but encroaches slightly, and I could return it. This is good.
  3. In the Linden Homes area, that is definitely a TOS violation. Like was stated before, you should be able to right-click and Abuse Report. Make sure to get a good photo and send it with the report. Doing it this way should automatically fill out the name of the violator. On covenant-free mainland, things are a bit different. Your usage of the word poster suggests an advertisement. If that's what it is, then, as per the advertising rules (see Irene's post), it seems like it would still be a violation. If it were on covenant-free mainland and not an advertisement, then it probably would not be a violation. Ruining/blocking someone's view is not a TOS offense.

World of Warcraft has 10 millions of players, everybody has the same rights there. Facebook has millions of members, don t think there would be so many members if anybody could kick anybody from his site. SL has around 60 k people online at prime time, that means maybe 200 k active users, most of the sims are ghosttowns and finding a club with 30+ people in it is like finding water in the desert. Wonder why ? I don't wonder about it all. Anybody who's been around a while and paying attention knows SL's shortcomings are a result of a mismanaged company that has a lack of knowledge about the product they're supplying. It has nothing to do with sim-owners kicking people for violating their rules. Sheeba Camino wrote: Is this really the virtual world you want ? A place evrybody can kick you cos he doesn t like your face or you don t the wear green boots the simowner likes. A virtual world where if you pay US$295 per month you can have a formal themed region and can boot people who aren't dressed formally? Yes, that's exactly what I wan't. Sheeba Camino wrote: At what time SL has turned into this place ? When I joined SL years ago it was an adventure, a world to build and explore and everybody gave you a warm welcome on his sim and showed you his work and place. Not sure how you missed it, but it's always been like this (i.e., people can ban you from their land for any reason they want).
  6. "Only objects lower than 400 meters on the Z-coordinate (vertical) plane appear on the World Map." Source: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Viewerhelp:World_Map Regarding the resolution, my personal guess is that when they implemented the map, they just went with 1 pixel per square meter thinking that would look good enough. They implemented it that way and it worked fine. I'm guessing they didn't do any analysis of processing time versus map resolution to get the best trade-off. Even if they don't add resolution, I'd like to be able to zoom in further (way further) and will accept the pixelization. I used to have a smiley face on the map. Also, I used to have a map clock. I never kept logs of when the map updated, but from casual observation, in Suisun it always seemed to update sometime after about 12:30am and sometime before about 1:15am, IIRC.
  7. As Hugsy Penguin (which generally translates to the real life me): 1. Describe yourself in two words? Loner, Adventurer 2. What surprised you last? I put some free stuff on the marketplace. The items being "bought" more versus less is surprising me a bit. 3. What is your current favorite song or album - one you are obsessing over? Not one that I'm obsessing over. However, while in world, I came across a device that played Knights in White Satin by the Moody Blues and decided to look for it on the web and play it there instead. 4. What is your mood or feeling today? (Or for you NT types, if you prefer: What is most occupying your thoughts?) Getting bored. Thoughts or occupied by the game I'm making. 5. What do you most hope for this year? Getting the game done, LOL.
  8. Quick thought: Alphabetize the Title of the picks? Try setting the Title of the first pick to "1 - TEXT FOR FIRST PICK", the title for the second pick to "2 - TEXT FOR SECOND PICK", and so on.
  9. Innula Zenovka wrote: Using the Category filters on the left hand side of the web-page, click through to Apparel>Womens'>Women's Footwear>Women's Boots. At each stage in the process, you should see the entry in the Search In drop-down change to reflect the sub-category you are in, and any search you do for Keywords will be confined to that sub-category and its children. The script works, but it doesn't work like that for me. For me, it just adds the entry CURRENT to the Search In dropdown list (the same behavior that Ceka Cianci reported in post #6).
  10. Prior to this script, you would have to put your keyword search in first, then drill down through the categories on the left to refine your results. With this script, you can drill down through the categories first, then refine the results with a keyword search. Very nice. Thanks for the heads up.
  11. How high do you have to go? I've got the latest V3 viewer and it looks like it always has even at 4096 meters.
  12. I don't have any group-deeded land at the moment, so I can't test this. From what I recall when I did and from the Knowledge Base (http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Group-owned-land/ta-p/700079#Section_.4.1), I think the following is correct: If the land is merely -set- to group (not -deeded-), then you yourself own the land. Any objects owned by you will not be affected by auto-return. If the land is -deeded- to group, then the group as a whole owns the land. Any objects not set or deeded to the group will be affected by auto-return; it doesn't matter if the object owner is a member of the group. Objects can be edited to set the group. To make sure newly rezzed objects are in the correct group, wear the group tag while building. Or, if you're running Firestorm, you can select "Always rez objects under the land group if possible" in Preferences.
  13. As of April? (I think), of this year, when land is abandoned, it is set back for sale to the person who abandoned it. After 24 hours, it is set for sale to anyone and auto-return is enabled. So, they've already got that policy. Unfortunately, for land abandoned prior to this, auto-return is often times set to zero. The good news is that you can send a support ticket to the Linden Department of Public Works and someone should come by and set auto-return. I've done this many times and it's historically taken less than a business week. Help --> Support History Right Hand Column --> Premium Support --> Contact Support Submit a Support Case form What type of problem are you having? – Land & Region Land & Region – Linden Lab owner Parcel Issues Where is the Linden-owned Parcel that is having the issue? – Go to land and copy & paste SLURL SLURL or Parcel Coordinates – paste SLURL again Please describe the issue. – Abandoned land has junk on it and needs auto-return set. It would be awesome if everyone else either enabled auto-return or actively monitored their land for junk.
  14. Another way is this: Bring up the World Map (press Ctrl-M) On the right, there should be a place to type in a region name. It should have your current region name already filled in. Replace that with the region you're looking for. In this case, type in Omega Point. After that, press return or click the Find button. After searching for the region, it will show the list of found regions. Below, that there's a place to enter the X, Y, and Z coordinates. Type those in. You should be setup now. Just click the Teleport button to go there.
  15. 1 – I like the boat. 2 – I wish I could tweak the scripts. 3 – I'm not sure how much I'll actually use it, but plan on trying it more. 4 – It won't harm boat makers – that's silly. (It's nice but, no, they didn't GOM the boating industry, LOL) 5 – It won't be offered in non-mesh form – that's silly. (Linden Lab “recently” rolled out mesh so, no, they're not going to cater to those who can't/won't use a mesh viewer)
  16. I started using Firestorm this year when it was in beta and am happy with it. Question: With this new release, is there a way to keep things permanently derendered (and to manage what's being derendered)?
  17. Jenni Darkwatch wrote: True, it'd have to be sensible. There's no need to put up markers everywhere, ... I kinda disagree here. Although starting with problem areas would be great, I think they should just put them everywhere. That way everybody is aware of where the public Linden land is and the private resident owned land. I note that in terms of running into blocking prims, there's a big difference with driving down the road and sailing through a Linden waterway. It's rare (but not unheard of) to get blocked on the road. It's not uncommon at all on the water. I believe part of the difference is that the roads do a good job of marking where the Linden-owned land is. Small little buoys or some other kind of marker should be placed in a spaced out manner so as not to interfere with neighboring builds but are enough to guide the sailor. This would help sailors avoid ban lines and orbs while reminding resident land owners of the existence and location of the Linden-owned waterway.
  18. Property lines are drawn at ground level. If the ground is above water, then you can see them. If the ground is below water, then they're obscured by the water and you can't see them. You haven't missed any features. Property lines are of little to no use when you're sailing.
  19. Jenni Darkwatch wrote: Good example At least in this screenie there's marker buoys. Does LL indeed put down buoys if requested by residents? There's no guarantee that they will. The markers in the above picture were placed by request. I recommend filing a ticket as I noted above. Just be polite, focus on wanting to traverse the waterway without infringing on neighboring land and how that's impossible to do without markers of some sort, and don't ask for ban lines/security orbs to be removed (or say anything else that gives the impression you're just trying to mess with the neighbors). The worst that can happen is that they say no.
  20. I had thought about weather in SL before. Another option is for LL to generate the rain/snow. Then LL would create a new prim type to cancel the precipitation. First you'd rez a normal prim (box, sphere, whatever). Then you'd size and position it inside buildings or anywhere else you don't want precipitation. Last, under perhaps Features, you'd check off "Cancel Weather". The prim would disappear (see it again with highlight transparent) and no precipitation would render inside of it.
  21. Weather would be interesting. LL could get current weather data from NOAA and consolidate it down to clouds, wind, and precipitation. Clouds could be handled by custom windlight settings. In-world wind would change from it's current weird randomness to the real-world wind. Precipitation would be harder. You don't want it to rain inside buildings. You might need a new LSL function and scripted objects to emit the rain/snow.
  22. I think the easiest thing would be to tell the system you want a real world day/night cycle for 52° 30′ 2″ N (for Berlin) and let the system do all the work (using real world month/day) instead of having to update it manually. For longer than Earth-day days, then manual entry of when sunrise and sunset occur would be needed.
  23. Turning on property lines doesn't help when navigating down a wide waterway where only a narrow stripe is Linden land. See the attached picture. Even though property lines are turned on, there's no way to tell where the Linden waterway is without the markers. If there's a problem area, submit a ticket to the Linden Department of Public Works. State your case. Explain that it's impossible to stay on Linden land over water. Do not ask for neighboring ban lines or security orbs to removed (unless the orb is intruding on the Linden land). Help --> Ticket History Scroll down to where is says Premium Support and click Contact Support Under Still can't find an answer? click Submit a Support Case form Set What type of problem are you having? to Land & Region Set Land & Region to Linden Lab owner Parcel Issues Set Where is the Linden-owned Parcel that is having the issue? to the region name Set SLURL or Parcel Coordinates to the SLURL Set Please describe the issue to a message that the waterway needs marked.
  24. In real life, the exact times for sunrise and sunset depend on latitude and day of the year. They'd have to have an option for the traditional 3+1 hour day and the 24 hour day where you have to specify the latitude. I wouldn't want a realistic day cycle on the mainland because I like the way the 4 hour day works. However, I see no reason not to make this an option for private estates.
  25. I used to make mazes when I first started. They were simple two-story 6x12 grid mazes that would fit on the 16m x 32m parcel. I used to have a building on a somewhat triangular shaped plot. On the one floor, I filled it out with a maze. If you search the marketplace for maze, you'll find lots of mazes, maze parts, and maze generators. Most you walk through, but I have one where you sit at it. Then it moves your camera inside a miniature maze. If you search the Destination Guide for maze, you'll find a bunch of places too. Looks like there's some Halloween themed mazes now I have to check-out here real quick. Also, search for 'amusement park' and look around those. I know Hobo Amusement Park has a maze and Pando has a fun house.
