  1. Holy necro post! I haven't heard of Apez for ages, I think it all got split up, you might want to speak to the CasperVend owner, I think he helped some old Apez customers out when it all went **bleep** up. Actually no, Casper can't help he just helped people migrate to his system, he wasn't involved with taking any assets from Apez. The trail seems to go cold with egoisme.

In the snapshot contest it was free use of a homestead for four months top prize and free use of a homestead for two months for two runners up.
  3. Suspiria Finucane wrote: From what I read about this promotion, it's more like a paid ad than a prize for SL residents. It's a promotional for sure, and that's why i don't mind things like this, even if I can't participate, it advertises Second Life on outside properties. Linden Lab aren't sponsoring the competition.
  4. Alienware and Dell have an international presence, there are compeitions on that website for people outside the USA, some of them even exclude people from the USA as they're for European customers, different competitions. I don't have a problem with this particular competition being USA residents only, same as I don't have a problem with the Amazon promotions excluding folk outside North America, I think Canadians were included in the Amazon promotions, but maybe not. I'm not surprised people are asking about this compeition though, it has been on message of the day and I have no doubt whatsoever that Americans would complain if Linden Lab were running a competition that excluded them, there would certainly be posts asking why.
  5. I'm a bit bemused as to why you seem to think that people asking why this competition is only available to some US residents is bashing the US, it's not, it's a perfectly understandable question regarding a competition that is advertised on MOTD login and the adverts in this forum where it doesn't mention the US restriction until you follow the links. I'd wager that if US residents were excluded, and let's not forget that Alienware and Dell are global brands, there would be people posting complaints. As it stands the competition is only available to US residents, I don't have a problem with that, I do think it's a poor choice of promotion for SL10B, but exclusivity to the USA is not something I have a problem with.
  6. It depends, there are a couple of factors to take into account, one is the size of the texture and the other is the number of textures, so although 1024 x 1024 is not encouraged, it is feasible to use one and be more efficient than using 512's overall. There's a good wiki article here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Texture_Usage It's also worth checking out the linked texture sizes article from that thread.

The reason will be because of the nature of the promotional deal. Why LL have decided such a restrictive competition is a good fit for a SL10B community related competition is a different matter, personally I think it's a poor fit. Why they cant mention in the MOTD or the advert that appears here on this site, that it's only open to USA residents is another matter too, it really shouldn't be that difficult to put that in the MOTD or the banner advert.
  8. Take a look at this wiki article: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Selling-and-renting-land-to-others/ta-p/700135
  9. The CHUI conversations log was supposed to show conversations from the last 30 days, but it doesn't seem to work for me.
  10. IM to email is no guarantee you will get the message, there was an incident a few years back where backed up IM's started appearing and confusing conversations ensued, backed up by months I should add. I prefer getting notecards, you prefer getting IM's, the more important issue is how you get this information to the people who may want to contact you, some people prefer emails and list their email address in their profile.
  11. They must have been reading your post, there's a blog post about it now! http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Featured-News/Faster-Avatar-Loading-on-the-Horizon/ba-p/2026857
  12. I've seen this with my own playing around with Mesh, that means I've done it by accident and therefore, unfortunately, can't tell you how it was done. When this has happened with me i've deleted the mesh because that's not what I wanted, but it has happened. I've always put this down to quirkiness, so i'd have to agree with Kwakkelde's comment that I wouldn't rely on this working reliably.
  13. I'd imagine you will be emailed at some point, they sent out emails when Linden Lab ended their LinkShare affiliate program in the Autumn.
  14. Indeed, which is why I said it can be problematic, not that it is problematic. I think it's worth pointing out the issues, with mesh there are some extra considerations but the basics are the same.
  15. Because of the different accounting systems for mesh and standard building blocks. Linking a normal prim to a mesh linkset can change the way the whole set is accounted for. Mesh accounting is different to standard prim/sculptie accounting, there are extra considerations to take into account.
  16. This will happen with any full perm building blocks, the trick usually is to create your own prim in the linkset and make that the root prim, however when it comes to Mesh, this approach can be problematic, but is worth considering.
  17. Between 0-5 working days, although it's usually 4-5 for me.
  18. The issue with the USD dollar changes from country to country and bank to bank. Some accounts incur high fees for converting different currencies, currency converting websites, plus bank fees, plus the fact that the rate you get from Paypal probably isn't the rate you see on the currency converting website yadda yadda yadda, but I think people could deal with that, you get used to it. The simple fact of the matter is that the LindeX simply isn't competitive enough, if it were, there would be a lot less rumbling about it. the TPE's showed Linden Lab how it can be done, I won't hold my breath waiting to see if LL respond to the excellent services some TPE's offered. Paypal is available in scores of countries, but not all countries get the same service as say the USA or the UK, some of them can't withdraw to a local bank account, some can only withdraw to certain credit cards. There are alternative payment methods, the TPE's proved that, why can't the LindeX embrace some of the alternatives to Paypal?
  19. No sorry Perrie, I mean once it has been paid to their exchange, they exchange for something else other than Linden Dollars. I'm speculating but I would imagine that if everyone had decided to withdraw their funds from a Third Party Exchange back to SL, they wouldn't be able to fund it. The same would happen if everyone decided they wanted to empty their RL bank accounts.
  20. I think that maybe once the money is in the TPE, it's gone from the world and becomes the TPE currency. I don't have enough in the TPE I use to test this, but it would be worth asking someone who does, whether they can still buy money with their account balance.
  21. Perrie Juran wrote: I read one store owner said he was asked (told) by a TPE to remove their terminal from his store. So my guess is that they were paying him to have it their. . Some of them ran a commission scheme, so if a lot of people used the ATM on your parcel, you would get commission for that.
  22. Is it a material change? The change is not one directly with Linden Lab, it's with third parties.
  23. They didn't even need to give a reason, just giving a decent period of notification and informing the third pary exchanges in an efficient manner would have done. They was LL have gone about this is awful.
  24. Russia may well be on the link but you were disputing that Paypal withdrawals are not banned in Russia. Paypal have been trying to make inroads into Russia but until very recently, withdrawals were certainly restricted and not allowed to Russian bank accounts and I can't find any links to suggest that has changed yet, although I can find links that suggest Paypal are looking to get legal status to be fully available in Russia.

Linden Labs is simply reacting to recent changes in policy by the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (“FinCEN”), an agency in the U.S. Treasury.. If not you're speculating, all Linden Lab have officially said is that this change is to do with cutting down on fraud, that's all they've officially said.
