Frequently crashing during Texture uploads.
Knowl Paine replied to Anny Broek's topic in Building and Texturing Forum
Have you or were you previously uploading Images without crashing? Are the Image files large? Do you crash when uploading an Image in any region? Even empty regions? Do you have any additional programs running besides Second Life? Do you have a good internet speed? Distance from the server. I think there is a preview upload automatically feature that can cause a crash. -
An partial example of a Warning I read stated the the Individual was in Violation of Second Life Forums Community Standards and then detailed the time date and nature of violation. I believe that Moderators will send the majority of Warnings. You will receive a Private Message in your Mailbox at the top of this page.

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
Knowl Paine replied to UrZuric Kirkorian's question in Technical
Code 43 Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) Recommended resolution One of the drivers controlling the device notified the operating system that the device failed in some manner. If you have already run the Troubleshooting Wizard, you might want to check the hardware documentation for more information about diagnosing the problem. Are you running Vista? Or any pirated windows (don't answer that) Did you try using XP. A video card problem, is it overheating? Also remember that if you do run 2 video cards or more, they should be all the same cards not different cards as this will cause a conflict. You should disable the adapter on your mainboard. Could be missing bios settings. -
I was just scammed out of 40k in linden, any suggestions to help
Knowl Paine replied to Tinky Deluxe's question in Abuse and Griefing
I would make copies of all the data, transaction history, chat logs, ect. Create an accurate record of the events. Stick with the facts, avoid any personal attacks. The Second Life Policy is not etched in stone. Linden Research is privately owned, the founders and boardmembers could make you CEO tomorrow if they wanted to. All Residents and the Linden's are stewarts of this Virtual World. Our principles and actions are not soley based upon money but creating and managing revenue has been a vital guideline in enabling SL to continue. The distinction between domestic disputes and those which are Business related can often be difficultt to distinquish in a virtual word which so readily allows for enterprise. I recommend that you be patient will all parties involved. Justice always takes time. It is my belief that if you decide to pursue this matter through the Support process, it will be thoroughly investigated. -
Events pretty rare compared to historical numbers, fair observation?
Knowl Paine replied to Deep Semaphore's question in Everything Else
There is a popular help group that has a weekly show and tell event, and a timed building contest. I'm not sure if we are allowed to name the names of SL groups here at the Forum. I can send you a Instant Message with the name of the group Inworld. I like showing and telling, ok, mostly telling. Maybe you can host a show and tell Event. -

Can't log in on Apple computer, clock set incorrectly when on auto set?
Knowl Paine replied to 15Rocky Sicling's question in Technical
I don't run an Apple but I had a simular problem. The time on my machine was correct but the, I want to say time map. When I looked at time feature for my PC, I found a map of the world with settings by country. Somehow my PC had one of the south american location check on the time zone map. SL wouldn't let me login cause it said my time was incorrect. I will look for what the feature is called and post it here in about 2 hours. -

How does someone get reinstated after being banned from a parcel?
Knowl Paine replied to Storm Dasmijn's question in Abuse and Griefing
You might need to convince the person, manager or land owner who banned you that you are sorry. Notecards sent on your behalf from Residents (friends) in good standing with the landowner can help a lot. Be sincere -
Help SL addict NEEDS account and IP banned!
Knowl Paine replied to Merry Rosenstar's topic in General Discussion Forum
There is no reason to feel sadness or embarrassment, plenty of residents have shared simular feelings. The first step is in realizing the problem. If you're neglecting your rl responsibilties, it might be time to take a break from Second Life. There's no need to request permanent action you may regret at a later date. Variety is the spice of life. I spend a lot of time in SL, some of my friends in rl spend a lot of time watching television. What is considered to be quailty use of free time is purely a matter of Opinion. If you have to go, I will hold the fort down while you're away. SL will wait for you. P.S. Can I have your stuff? -

HOW MUCH LINDEN TO UPGRADE MY APPEARANCE
Knowl Paine replied to NANATA's question in Linden Dollars (L$)
Great advice -
Find like minded individuals, people who share your interest or hobbies. Anyone can have a lot of Friends in SL but very few people have a lot of Good friends. Reading a Residents profile can sometimes help you to get an idea of who that person is. Adding inviting or approachable information in Your Profile can help to attract interest. Using the Classified's you could host an Event. It does take some time for a Discussion group to get established. Eventually the group could have regularly scheduled meetings with a predictable attendance. The moment you have everything in place and you're ready to attempt some serious progress on a project; you get 3-5 Instant Messages. It always works like that. I like to keep my Mini-map open while in SL. When working on projects, I usually cannot see the Resident standing right next to me. For one, it's rude to ignore people and two, it can be startling when you do finally see them. Using the Mini-map helps to prevent this. I hide all names and tag displays to improve performance. My best advice would be to pursue your own dreams and the rest will follow.

Are infohubs a good place to meet friends?
Knowl Paine replied to Suspiria Finucane's topic in Make Friends
There are around 20 or 30 info hubs, I forget. Some locations are shoe horned into densely packed Mainland areas and might be a bit busy. I like to visit a few info hubs and enjoy spending some time helping newer Residents. Each info hub is home for many residents. Most hubs have a few residents who are regulars in the region. Korea 1, 2, 3 or 4 is a good hub. Violet Dore is a busy hub I think Help Island Public I might have my hubs mixed up. Just because I don't know the name of where I'm going doesn't mean I don't know how to get there.
