  1. To add to Rolig's excellent answer, there is another reason to not use special characters in your Display Name. Names should be legible and pronounceable, and they should be easy for people to type back to you. For example, if I see someone with a nametag like ✳〜§ℯphℯrią Ħ.Я.〜 ✳ (Southernjdlover), if I talk to you at all, I am likely to say something like "Hi JD," because there is just no way I can type those characters or say them to myself in my head. If you happen to be a good friend, I may take the time to puzzle them out and say "Hi, epheria". Maybe.
  2. You can downgrade back to Basic as Rolig describes, but you will not get a refund. Linden Lab does not give refunds. However, you don't need to take the free Linden Home that is one of your Premium benefits. Instead, you can PURCHASE land on the Mainland, and you will get free tier (the monthly maintenance fee) on the first 512 square meters of land you purchase. Then you can build any sort of home there you like, or get a home from the marketplace or an in world store and put it on your land. A lot of land on the Mainland is going for $L 1 per square meter, or even less, so you won't have to pay a lot to initially purchase the land. For more information on virtual land, come to my Buying and Renting Land class at Caledon Oxbridge University today at 5 pm SL time. It's free!
  3. The problem is not you. The other people who can't see you need to use the latest viewer, capable of seeing Server Side Appearance.
  4. @THORGNAF: Call Billing during normal business hours, California time, at one of the numbers below. US/Canada: 800-294-1067 France: 0805-101-490 Germany: 0800-664-5510 Japan: 0066-33-132-830 Portugal: 800-814-450 Spain: 800-300-560 UK: 0800-048-4646 Brazil: 0800-762-1132 Long distance ( not free, but you can use Skype to save some cost ) : 703-286-6277 **Note: Support is offered only in English
  5. Most land in SL is privately owned. The land owner can ban anyone he wants to, for any reason, or even for no reason at all. You can send an IM or a polite notecard to the owner asking why you were banned, but unless he changes his mind, you must simply go find another place.
  6. 1. First, "verify" your PayPal account by linking it to a major credit card or a bank account. This is done from the PayPal website, and has nothing to do with SL. Follow the verification instructions on the PayPal site. 2. Once your account is verified (it takes several business days), go to your Account page on this web site and navigate to Change Payment Method. Follow the instructions there.
  7. To clarify Martin's excellent answer...there is no way other avatars will see you correctly unless THEY are using an SSA-capable viewer. The problem isn't yours, it's theirs.
  8. There's a bigger problem, Laoise -- Linden Lab does not accept debit cards.

    TP-able dog?

Even my Real Life dog, who is well toilet-trained, is not "TP-able". That's asking a lot of a poor canine!
  10. KarenMichelle is correct, but if you wish you can also ignore the message. Right click the item and select Open, just as you would with any non-scripted box.
  11. I will add to Rolig's excellent advice. While you are scrolling down the TOS to fool the software into thinking you actually read it, why not take the time to ACTUALY read it? You really should know what you are agreeing to before you click ACCEPT.
  12. Rolig is right, but first check your Transaction History on this website. The balance shown on your viewer in world can be incorrect.
  13. That's what happens when you go to those quack doctors! It's not the "doctor's" responsibility to give you your babies. You buy those on the Marketplace. The "doctor" is a participant in your roleplay of giving birth. What you are paying him for is his time. If "Doctor Zen" promised that he would provide you with your prim babies, and didn't um, deliver, that is as Rolig says a matter between you and him. I doubt you have any chance of recovering your money, I'm sorry.
  14. Rolig nailed it. But I am curious about your last comment, about a "livid and broke fiance". You haven't used another person's PayPal account as your payment method, I hope! This is a serious breach of financial and personal security, for both parties. Even if they ARE your fiance. That is not a legal relationship, like marriage, and it can be dissolved at any time by either party. Keep your finances separate.
  15. Wait an hour or so and try again? Also, if you are using Internet Explorer, try using the Firefox browser. This web site doesn't like IE much.
  16. 1. Be sure you have the ability to submit events for your group 2. The parcel where the event will be held should show up in your available parcels list 3. Be sure you are submitting the event with the correct maturity rating 4. Be sure your event title is descriptive. "Sexy Long Hair" could refer to a sale at a hair store! I would use a name like "Live Music by DJ Rick and Long Hair Contest"
  17. What viewer are you using? If it's one like Firestorm that allows you to change the font size of user interface text, look for that option in Preferences, and try a smaller font size.
  18. Peter and Innula have given you excellent advice. However, when buying a private region from another resident, be sure to follow the correct procedure to protect yourself. Both you and the seller file support tickets with LL, and you pay your money to LL, NOT to the seller. LL holds the money "in escrow", and pays the seller when the land is transferred to you. For details on this, see this link: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Managing-Private-Regions/ta-p/700115#Section_.3 Also bear in mind that you will then be responsible for paying the monthly land use fee of $295 USD per month. Be sure that you can afford it! (If this is the first private region you are buying, it must be a full region. You can't buy a Homestead or and OpenSpace region until you own at least one full region.)
  19. Rolig is right, but I believe that the overall folder containing ALL your chat logs for ALL your avatars is called "chatlog" for all viewers. Do a Windows Search to find it, if you don't see it in the AppData folder. Each logged conversation will be a text file with the name of the person or group. Local chat will be a file named chat.txt.
  20. In addition to the other great answers: Check your Transaction History on this website to see if any large and unexplained payments have been made to someone you don't know. This is another indication that someone has been in your account.
  21. As Rolig says, check your Transaction History (NOT the Order History on the Marketplace) When you do, please post the details of the payments here by editing your initial post, using the Options/Edit button at the upper right.
  22. If you have a problem, you can file a Support Ticket from this web site. Go to Help/Support/Create Case. Note that your options are limited to billing problems and certain limited problems like your region being offline if you have only a Basic membership. For technical support, you must be Premium. If you have a billing issue, you can call one of the Billing numbers, which I will paste below. If you have an idea for a feature request, you can submit it using the Bug Report process. And that's it. Billing numbers: US/Canada: 800-294-1067 France: 0805-101-490 Germany: 0800-664-5510 Japan: 0066-33-132-830 Portugal: 800-814-450 Spain: 800-300-560 UK: 0800-048-4646 Brazil: 0800-762-1132 Long distance ( not free, but you can use Skype to save some cost ) : 703-286-6277 **Note: Support is offered only in English
  23. I don't know if it's new, but Section 6.2 (vii) should give anyone pause. Apparently, if you cyber with someone you know is a minor, or in LL's opinion should have known, you are in Big Trouble. in response to an earlier comment: LL has not banned sexually explicit content, except as provided by the Maturity policy (e.g. not in General regions.) You're taking that sentence out of context. The wording of the new policy which removes the requirement for 30 days' notice prior to making a policy change should also raise eyebrows. Taken literally, it seems to say that they can change the TOS at any time and not tell you about it. You are responsible for checking it every so often to see if they've changed it. I doubt that they would do that in practice, but if they did, I also doubt that "you should have caught the change we made last month" would fly in court.
  24. I went to the store and inspected two of the group joiners. They appear to work normally and send a link to the group, which you may join. There is a joining fee of $L500. This is a large store, and I seriously doubt that the owner is running any kind of a scam. However, there is a type of scam that someone can run in a situation like this. If someone put an invisible prim over the object you were trying to click, it might have requested that you pay it. In that case, the money would get paid to the owner of the invisible prim (in this case, presumably Mesh Maniac). I then searched on "Mesh Maniac 2013 Gift". This is a group founded by a three week old avatar. It is possible that this avatar is running scams. When you clicked the sign, did it then give you a link in local chat to click, and did that open the group join window? That is what should have happened. Then you would click the Join button, which would give you a notice that you are about to pay 500 L to join that group. If you then accept the notice, you are added to the group. If that is NOT what happened, you were scammed by a third party. I suggest you IM the owner of the store and tell them exactly what sign you were trying to use, and exactly what happened when you clicked it...especially if it gave you a Buy option, which is NOT what a group joiner does. Or if it opened the Group window for "Mesh Maniac 2013", and NOT the group for the wedding store. Your chances of getting your money back are zero, I'm sorry to say. But it would be nice to zero in on whoever is running scams and report them.
  25. Look for a notice in your Notices toasts. You have to accept the machine's request to animate your avatar before you will get the dance menu.
