  1. I will add to Rolig's and Maddy's fine answers: You can ignore the message from your device. Almost all BDSM toys will work without RLV, even if they have additonal functions that require RLV to function.
  2. You didn't ask this, but: 1. Capitalize the first word of sentences. 2. Capitalize the first person personal pronoun, "I". 3. The contraction for "I am" is written with an apostrophe, "I'm." 4. The present participle of the verb "to use" is spelled "using." There is no such word as "usen." Your Friendly Spelling and Grammar Patrol
  3. I agree with Sven that the "modeling academies" are a ripoff when it comes to actually getting jobs. Most modeling jobs don't pay much (just a copy of the clothes, usually) and many creators just use themselves as a model when making up product photos for vendors or ads. But if you have always wanted to be a model, paying a modeling school in SL could be considered a fun (albeit expensive) form of roleplay. If you accept it on that basis, it can be fun.
  4. Just the same way you do with the SL viewer. To put on different clothes, open your inventory (the suitcase button or CTRL+I), find the item, right click it and Wear or Add it. To change your shape, right click your avatar, select Appearance/Edit Shape. To change to any of the complete starter avatars, find them in inventory in Library/Clothing. Drag an avatar's folder onto your avatar, or right click it and choose Replace Outfit. If you don't see buttons for the shortcuts you normally use, right click any button and select Toolbar Buttons to see a list of all the available buttons. Drag any one you want from the buttons window to an edge of the screen. There is great information on the Firestorm web page, and an in world support group you can join to get instant live help, and in world classes you can take, too.
  5. Non-rigged mesh is just a simple, "rigid" mesh object. It can be edited for size. Rigged mesh is linked to your avatar skeleton (a process called "rigging" by 3D animators) and can bend and move with you. However, it cannot be re-sized. Liquid Mesh is an attempt to get around that, invented by Redgrave. Liquid Mesh will re-size itself to fit your individual body shape. Fitted mesh is the "official" Linden Lab version of Liquid Mesh. Like Liquid Mesh, it will adjust to your body shape automatically. Like rigged mesh, both Liquid Mesh and fitted mesh will bend and move with you, and cannot be edited with the Edit tools. Both types will still most likely require that you wear an alpha mask layer to hide bits of your body that would otherwise stick through the mesh. Some designers are providing both a fitted mesh and a standard rigged mesh (in the various standard sizes). Try on both the fitted and the rigged versions. I've found several outfits where I liked the look of the regular rigged mesh better than the fitted mesh version.
  6. Most likely you have a poor internet connection between you and the SL servers. Try adding the free Google public DNS servers to your network setup. Here's a link to instructions: https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using
  7. Tyg, If you are using the Firestorm viewer and you have an older version, please update to the latest release...the 64 bit version, if you have a 64 bit operating system. If you're already on the latest version, first go into Preferences/Graphics/Hardware and disable VBO. If that does not work, try a different viewer and see if it help.
  8. You have on one of the new "mesh" avatars. They are not modifiable with the Appearance sliders and in fact are very difficult to customize at all. There is a simple solution. Click the Avatars button...top button on the left side of your screen. Switch to one of the "classic" avatars. Now you can adjust your shape and face, and play around with wearing clothes...look in your inventory, CTRL+I, in the folder Library/Clothing to find many more avatars to try out, and to use clothing items from. Just stay away from any with "Mesh" in the title.
  9. The "Received Items" section of your inventory might appear as a regular inventory folder, or it might be a separate section, down at the very bottom of your inventory window pane, depending on your viewer and Preferences settings.
  10. While standing in your home, go to World/Parcel Details. Click the Access tab, and change the setting to public access. If you don't want to allow EVERYONE into your home, instead of setting public access, add your friend's name to the Allowed list.
  11. Apolon Motors is a very reputable company in SL, I am sure they will help you if you will be patient.
  12. While Maddy is right about there being a bug in the current viewer, what you are describing does not sound like that problem to me. Nvidia drivers are usually very good with SL, and I am currently using the latest one with no problems. Are you logging in to the same region each time? If so, try logging in somewhere else. Someone may be using a graphics crasher to kick you off by overloading your graphics card. Check your graphics card temperatures, using a utility like the free GPU-Z. If they're running hot, open your case and check your card's cooling fan operation. It might also be an underpowered or failing power supply, or an aux power connector having come loose from the graphics card. Check card and cable seating. It may simply be that your graphics card is going bad. Contact Alienware if the system is under warranty. If you have or can borrow one, try substituting a different graphics card.
  13. if you mean the kind where you've rezzed a box and taken out the stuff, then you Take the box into inventory, and now you have two, just delete one...or if you have more duplicates, delete all but one. But if you mean, suddenly a whole lot of duplicate items or folders just appeared out of nowhere, first try a manual cache clear, following this procedure: http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_cache_clear Then log in to a quiet and empty region, like Pooley or Heckendorf, and WAIT PATIENTLY for your inventory to load. If repeating this once or twice does not fix the problem, then you'll need to get help from Linden Lab by filing a Support Case. They only offer this level of technical support to Premium members, but if you aren't Premium and the problem is really bugging you it may be worth it to buy a one month Premium subscription.
  14. When you edit the vendor, make sure the box "stretch Textures" is checked. If it still does not work, your vendor may be a Mesh object. Those can be hard to texture correctly...ask the creator of your product.
  15. Ain't nobody is LL's pet, not even LL employees. Just ask any of the 30% who got sacked a couple of years back. You obviously have a large chip on your shoulder about someone. Sorry about that...my best advice is, mute them and let it go.
  16. You can import rigged meshes that you've created in a 3D modeling program like Blender, but you can't export or import the shape settings for a classic SL avatar. If you want to use a shape you've created in Second Life in another virtual world, you'll have to write down all the slider settings, then use those settings to create the shape in your new location.
  17. in Me/Preference, Chat tab, set Save to either Log Only or Log and Transcripts, and either use the default location or set your own. Local chat and IMs will be saved as .txt files on your hard drive. You can then open them in a text editor or word processor.
  18. Try one or more of the following: Make sure you have the latest Java version installed Disable any ad blocker software in your browser Try a different web browser
  19. Racism is prevalent in EVERY country. It's a sad facet of human nature, but it's extremely common to find people who classify others into "us" and "them" on the basis of race, religion, appearance, political beliefs, or a host of other differences. However, that's different from saying racism is CONDONED. In the USA, where I live, official government policy and law is decidedly NOT racist, and in fact the behavior of MOST people (whatever their personal beliefs might be) is not racist. I am, however, exasperated by those who cry "racism!" in response to arguments raised about differences on political issues, simply because the different points of view are held by people of different races. Differences of opinion are NOT always, or even mostly, motivated by racial differences. In any event, debate about events and their causes, whether well-reasoned or simple slinging of loaded epithets, isn't against the TOS.
  20. Besides your Maturity preferences, make sure you are not in "Unavailable" mode.
  21. Theresa suggested this as a possible fix: A preliminary build which (we hope) will fix the problem: http://automated-builds-secondlife-com.s3.amazonaws.com/hg/repo/oz_maint-4678/rev/296857/index.html Download the CYGWIN version for Windows, Darwin for Macs, or Linux for Linux systems.
