  1. It might, but if it does, you'll have to keep the graphics at low quality. I would never buy one of these machines if a primary goal is to run Second Life.
  2. As Rolig suggests, what you need is a new video card. I recommend one of the Nvidia GeForce series. Many of them are available at reasonable prices. Try for something in the 4xx series or higher, with a second number greater than 4 ..e.g., GTX 450, 670, 740, etc.
  3. Good grief, Chrissy...you have 38 attachment points on your avatar (including screen HUD positions). You have eight clothing layers (counting alpha and tattoo, but not specialized layers like skin, eyes, hair, and physics.) You can wear up to five items on every clothing layer. How can you possibly be running out of places to put things, unless you are covered up like an Eskimo in midwinter? Wear additional clothing layers, or add multiple items to an attachment point, by using the ADD option instead of WEAR. By the way, unless all you are doing is hanging out in Adult clubs and picking up partners, it's considered uncouth to wear genital parts in public, even if they are invisible. Take it off, and then put it back on when it's time to get down to business. Linden Lab has not reduced the number ot attachment points or clothing layer capacity. As Rolig says, if you're getting messages that you are wearing too many things, it may be a restriction implemented by the owner of the land where you are, to keep the lag down.
  4. What they probably did was rez or wear a security orb that teleported "unauthorized visitors"...you, in this case...to their Home location. Your account is not in danger. Mute and ban the offenders, and carry on.
  5. Here's the problem... You donated tier to your land group to pay for the land you were going to deed to them. Then you bought the land yourself, instead of buying it for the group. So, for the period between purchasing the land in your own name and deeding it to the group, you were at the 1/4 sim tier level. You will be charged tier at that level for this billing period. But, if you've now deeded the land to the group, you will NOT be charged double in subsequent billing periods, even if your "tier level" shows the higher amount. Think of that as your "capacity to own land." You only get charged for what you actually own, however. If you ever have to do something like this again, either... a) do not buy the land for yourself. Wear the appropriate group tag and buy the land for the group in the first place. Or, b) don't donate tier to the group until you have deeded the land to the group. This produces a caution message saying the group needs more tier, but you can ignore this for the short time it will take to complete the transaction.
  6. And turn off Advanced Lighting Model and shadows!
  7. Sounds fishy to me. :smileyvery-happy:
  8. Did you check to see that the person you were renting from actually owned the land? This is a fairly common scam. A thief will find a vacant private estate parcel where rezzing is allowed and rez her own rental box. Then she "rents" the land to a victim. In a few hours or a day or so, the real estate owner notices the "squatter" and returns their prims, while the thief is long gone. Or, it could have simply been that the owner decided she didn't like the cut of your dress and decided to eject you and keep your money. You can file a Support Case against the person who took your money, but there is very little chance you'll make any recovery. Always research a potential landlord or estate owner before renting from them. Most of them are honest, but there are always a few bad apples. By the way, the only way two people can jointly own a land parcel is if you are both members of a group and the land is group owned.
  9. The correct reply is, "NO." I will often give a gift to newcomers, but I NEVER give money to beggars.
  10. It could be your graphics card, or it might be a flaky internet connection. Please edit your original post to add information about your system. You can find it in Help/About Second Life.

    Eyes not fitting

Only regular eyes, which are a texture applied to your avatar body, will be affected by the Appearance sliders. And only if you are wearing a "classic" shape. The Appearance sliders do not affect a Mesh attachment type of head or body. With mesh or prim eyes, don't use Appearance mode. Stand on a pose stand, right click an eye, and select Edit. Use the colored positioning arrows to move the eyes.
  12. First make sure that your audio system is set up properly, and that your microphone is working. Do this with your Windows audio settings. Then check your voice setup in SL, in your Preferences (CTRL+P). When you select the input device, see if green volume bars appear when you speak into the mic. Since you normally cannot hear yourself, go to Voice Echo Canyon to test the operation. Whatever you say will be echoed back to you. For more on setting up voice and troubleshooting it, see this link: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-voice-chat/ta-p/700169
  13. Someone with a 7 year old account should not be doing this. The "empty box scam" is generally done by people using a new, "throw-away" account, and that's the clue that it's a scam...someone with a very new account is selling very expensive, very well made things. But here's how it could be done. A law-abiding resident with a long standing account falls victim to a phishing scam or gets their account compromised in some other way. Now the criminal, let's call him Pirate X, takes over that account. Now Pirate X uses the stolen account to set up a Marketplace store. Maybe he even uses THEIR store, if they are a successful merchant. He loads empty boxes into the store, and sits back to await his ill-gotten gains. File an Abuse Report. You might mention in the report that you suspect the account you are reporting may have been compromised. There could be two victims here.
  14. Rolig is entirely correct. Your friend should read the link she provided and fill out the requested information.
  15. Check the balance shown on the website here. It's the "official" number. Sometimes the number shown in the viewer is wrong, temporarily. If your balance here shows negative check your Transaction Log. If that shows the adjustment, then LL took money out of your account. This is usually done to recover fraudulent funds. Either you used a stolen credit card to buy $L, or someone else did, and then sold or gave you the $L. If you feel an adjustment was made in error, you can contact Billing at one of the numbers below: US/Canada: 800-294-1067 France: 0805-101-490 Germany: 0800-664-5510 Japan: 0066-33-132-830 Portugal: 800-814-450 Spain: 800-300-560 UK: 0800-048-4646 Brazil: 0800-762-1132 Long distance ( not free, but you can use Skype to save some cost ) : 703-286-6277 **Note: Support is offered only in English
  16. Give these settings a try: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Flycam#ZATZAi_Asturias_-_Xbox_360_controller
  17. Don't use email. You obviously have at least one alt account, the one you used to write this question! Use that account to file your support case using Help/Support here on this website. Be sure to specify the username of the account that you are actually writing about, though. There's a place in the support case form for that, it asks something like, "is this question about another avatar?"
  18. If these are mesh feet, see if your skin maker sells an "applier" for them. This will match your skin tone with one mouse click. The UI option "show color under cursor" is used by some as a guide to matching attachments to skin tone. It's found in different places, depending on your viewer. However, it's never been much help to me. Here's what I do. (Assumption: Your foot or shoe HUD has a color spectrum selection window and a brightness slider.) 1. Set the sun position to midday for good, strong light. 2. Stand on a pose stand to make it easier to select things and to see them from various angles. 3. Use the foot or shoe's color HUD. You can try some of the pre-loaded skin tones first. If those don't give a decent match, then 4. Pick the best of the lot, and note where the cursor is in the color selection window. Move it a bit to increase or decrease the amount of red in the foot, vs. what you see in the skin. 5. When the color looks fairly close, even if it is too bright or too dark, use the auxiliary brighter/darker slider at the side of the color selection window to match brightness. 6. This will show you if you need more red or more yellow, or less color altogether (more gray). Adjust the position of the color selection cursor in small steps until you have a match. For N-core shoes without a color window, I pick the skin tone swatch that comes closest, then start fiddling with the numeric R,G,B settings until I get a match. Then save the setting in one of the custom bins.
  19. No. For example, Caledon Oxbridge University has a clever device at its arrival point. If you stand too long there, a prim tilts up and slides you off, making room for incoming avatars. If a PERSON is running around and shoving people, one might consider it very low level griefing. However, IMO it really doesn't rise to the level of an Abuse Report. Just sit on something and the idiot can no longer push you around. See my blog post, "The Nanny State Mentality"
  20. Try doing a clean reinstall of Firestorm. Follow the instructions here: http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_clean_reinstall
  21. Please check your transaction log on this website, and hers, very carefully. It is almost completely unknown for money to be "lost" in a transaction. Here are some possibilities: The transaction did not actually go through. In this case, neither transaction log will show the payment, it never left your account. You sent the money to the wrong person. If you right clicked her avatar or nametag in a crowd, it is easy to have selected the wrong avatar. If you selected her name with Search, many avatar names are very similar. It's easy to send something to someone with ALMOST the same name. Also, it's possible for two or more people to have the same Display Name. Always use the username, not the Display Name. If this is what happened, your transaction log will show the payment, and to whom it was made. Either your balance or your wife's balance, on the in world $L display, is incorrect. This is a temporary glitch and generally resolves on a re-log. The balance shown here on the web site is always correct. Least likely - some system error caused the money to "get lost". In this case, submit a Support Case to Linden Lab and include copies of both your transaction logs for the period in question.
  22. The Masocado Resort has two detached private homes for rent! Unlike our condos, these homes are on their own land parcels and are out of chat range of the neighbors. You can set your own music and media streams, too. The first is a large New England style home near the condo towers. Counting the lookout cupola on the top, it has FIVE stories. Below the cupola is a sunny rooftop...half is an open patio and the other half is a sunroom with glass walls giving a beautiful view of the open ocean in front and the Masocado Harbor behind. Below this is a second floor for use as a bedroom area, and below that is the first floor, with front and rear doors and a raised living area where you can sit and watch the crackling fire. But that's not all, there's a hidden feature...an underwater basement. From here you can watch the sea life outside your windows...it's like living inside a huge tropical aquarium. The windows and entrance are concealed from the outside. There are two docks for your craft...one in front, and a spacious patio/dock at the back. This wonderful home starts at $L3195 per calendar month (a full month, not four weeks like you'll find some places) and a 400 prim decorating allowance. Additional prims may be rented with the approval of the management. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Masocado/241/116/21 The second home is a somewhat smaller, but still spacious and welcoming modern beach cottage, with three large open plan living areas, a bedroom, a bathroom, front and rear decks, a second floor balcony, and a huge rooftop area accessed through a skylight door. This home features spectacular views and a unique swimming pool right out your front door, with swim-enabled Linden Water. The rent is extremely reasonable for the Blake Sea area, starting at just $L2395 per calendar month for 300 prims. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Masocado/76/181/22 Come see these two beautiful homes today at the Masocado Resort. When your friends ask where you live in Second Life, tell them you live in Paradise...in Masocado, baby!
