  1. Anyone can be pushed, and anyone can be hit with a follower cage, but (so far as I know) your clothing can only be stripped off if you are wearing a RLV relay attachment (like a collar) and have scripted control activated in your (3rd party) viewer. Clothing attachments, inventory access etc can be controlled by an active RLV relay. Switch off scripted control in your viewer and log out, then back in. Or use the official Second Life viewer which does not have any RLV capacity. If you still have problems with seeing things after turning off RLV, then the problem is not RLV. Most likely it is some sort of rez failure (try right clicking where the house wall, door, etc should be) and or some sort of bake failure. See: http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_bake_fail Also, try teleporting to a different sim. The sim may be having problems, and may need to be restarted (send a ticket to Linden support if you think your home sim needs a restart).
  2. If you have not already emptied your trash basket (in the viewer), check there and see if the original thing you deleted may still be there. If it is there you can right click and restore it, and then re-build the broken links.
  3. You may be trying to jump directly from a web page to 'in world'. That only works if you have first downloaded and installed the viewer software, and even if you have done that, the web link may not always work. It is better to start up the viewer software yourself and then log in directly, instead of trying to jump from a web page. Read the quickstart guides Rolig linked to. That will help explain it. Second Life is not really a game, it is a world where people build things and socialize. Although there are games in it.
  4. First be sure you are using an up-to-date viewer. There have been many changes in inventory and avatar texture baking. Second, if the problem won't clear up, read this page: http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_bake_fail Many people, including me, have had avatar bake failures over the last few days. I don't know why, but it has been better today.
  5. The brand name Liquid Mesh products appear (from a quick check on the marketplace) to have been updated with Fitted Mesh, which is Linden approved. I believe that both fitted and liquid mesh can look all spikey and stretched out on some viewers/video cards. 1. Update your viewer to the most current version, either the official viewer, or the most recent Firestorm or Singularity viewer. 2. Try turning off Hardware Skinning in your viewer: Go to 'Preferences' - 'Graphics' - 'Advanced' and take the check mark out of the box next to 'Hardware Skinning'. This is reported to fix the problem.
  6. Maybe you created an account, but did not download and install the viewer? You must now have an account, because you have a user name (Gaaelyin7Ajalon) and you can post in this forum. Once you download and install the viewer software, it will put a Second Life icon on your desktop you can double click to start up the viewer.
  7. We are just other residents - the Lindens do not post in this forum. You should start here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Billing/ta-p/700037 If you can't make it work, you can contact Linden billing support: https://support.secondlife.com/billing-support/
  8. The only thing you can not change with your existing account is your user name (log in name, Bacco91). Your existing account can wear any avatar, either the new mesh bodies or the classic default body (which is actually an older kind of mesh). The Avatar chooser under the Me menu contains both new and classic style avatars. You can wear any of them. There are also older classic avatars in your inventory Library folders. Most clothing, skins, etc in Second Life are made to work with classic avatar bodies, and will not work with the new mesh starter avatars. Also, the new mesh starter avatars are not modifiable. Try a classic avatar by either wearing a library folder containing a classic starter avatar, or use the Choose an Avater item under the Me menu (and select an avater under the Classic tab). Once you do that, you can then wear most clothing, skins, shapes, hair etc.
  9. Teleporting from the web page maps has been less relyable at times, than teleporting from in-world. Try Control M while in the viewer to bring up the in-world map.
  10. This is complicated, but most of the starter avatars offered now are brand new, and are not like most other avatars. They are full mesh body and head replacements (the 'classic' avatar is completely hidden). 1. They are almost (but not quite) no mod. So use them just as they are, swap them for each other, or replace them completely with a classic avatar and start over. 2. They can't wear most kinds of clothes that a classic avatar can, except for a few attachments like wigs. 'Shirt not worn' would appear in the classic outfit editor, and refers to one of the classic (system) clothing layers, which don't even show on full body mesh avatars. Even on a classic avatar, you don't need a shirt if you are wearing something on another layer like the jacket or undershirt layer, or maybe wearing a mesh attachment jacket and an alpha to hide the avatar. If you saw your avatar correctly soon after you logged in, then your viewer is working correctly and your internet is OK. I suspect you may be mixing clothing that is not intended for a full mesh avatar with one of the starter full mesh bodies. 3. There are some classic starter avatars still available on the avatar quick selector button in the viewer, plus more in your inventory (library). You can also buy (or get for free) classic avatars and clothes for them. Be aware that there is a problem with some older shoes on some viewers (the feet stick out). This can be fixed with the right shoe alpha. You really need someone in-world to help you, because we can't see you on the forum, so we don't know what is happening. I am just guessing that you did rez and are not a colored cloud. The colored cloud is a completely different issue (if you are a cloud it means a failure to download and rez the avatar). The cloud thing can be caused by an internet issue, or a bad attachment you are wearing that won't download, or even an overloaded sim (region). You did find the Caledon Oxbridge University group, but oddly you can't teleport from a group. You can teleport from the general search function (which can search for anything) or the map function (which can only search for region names) in the viewer. General Search is the magnifing glass icon or Control F, map is Control M. The region name is Caledon Oxbridge.
  11. You are posting in the Second Life forum, so you must have an account now, with an avatar name and a password. The next step is to download and install the viewer software on your home computer, if you have not already done so. The first time you try to log in through the viewer (with the avatar name and the password you created), you will have to accept the Terms of Service (by clicking the Accept) button. I don't know if it has been fixed, but sometimes the TOS won't show. Quickly clicking the "View TOS as a web page" link just as the viewer starts up may make the TOS show up, so you can agree to it. Do not worry too much about Welcome island. You can only go there just once and may not be able to go there at all if something went wrong the first time you tried to log in. There are other better places for new users: Caledon Oxbridge University and NCI Kuula are good. You can find them by using the search function in the viewer, once you get logged in. The others posting here may know more places. Second Life is complex, and may not alway work as expected. Read the linked user guides, but don't take everything written too seriously. It takes time to get used to it.
  12. "Also, SecondLife needs an actual PC to run on." Unless you have an Android 3.2 tablet or later, and are willing to pay $9.95 a month to OnLive for their "SL Go" product. Then you don't need a PC. SL Go will also work on PCs and Macs. Which may be an option if the Second Life viewer does not run well on your PC. See: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Featured-News/Introducing-SL-Go-from-OnLive/ba-p/2528009 Edit: According to bloger Wagner James Au in his post on May 16, SL Go does not render "Fitted mesh" well at all. This includes all the newest starter avatars plus some new kinds of clothing. You could always use the older (non-mesh) starter avatars found in your inventory and any non-fitted mesh or non-mesh clothing. SL Go renders those without trouble.
  13. Scripted objects won't start up if you are on land that has been set "No Script" by the land owner. But scripted AOs and most HUDs and most vehicles will keep running if the were already running before you entered the no script land. It is sometimes possible to start up scripted objects by flying up more than 50 m above no script land. This won't work if script is turned off for the whole sim. It works if a parcel owner turned off script for just their own parcel. See: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Limits
  14. Govener Linden owns a lot of land. Some of it is 'protected' which will not be sold to anyone. However, other Linden land may be set for sale if you submit a support ticket. Be sure you are willing to pay for the monthly tier based on how many m2 there are if you get the land. See: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Abandoned-land/ta-p/846143
  15. There are several different kinds of hair. The oldest is system hair, which is built into the avatar. You can't remove it, but the shape editor in Appearance can make it so small it can not be seen. More modern types of hair are attachments that are added on. These 'wigs' come in several types: Flexi prim, sculpty, mesh, rigged mesh. Normally you can just right click any attachment in your inventory and Wear it (use Add if there is already something attached to the same point you don't want to remove). System items are basic parts of your avatar that can not be removed, but can be replaced. Skin, shape, eyes, hairbase. Once you have an account, your avatar can become or wear just about anything.
  16. The 512 m2 parcel that comes with a Linden house can not be made larger. All Linden houses are 512 m2. You have two choices to get a larger parcel: 1. Rent from a resident (a landlord). You do not need a premium account to rent from someone else. They will usually provide a theme and some control over their land. Be sure to check the reputation of the landlord before you give them any money. 2. Or abandon your Linden house, but keep your premium status, and buy a larger parcel on the mainland. Then you will pay Linden Lab directly each month. You may buy land from Linden Lab (through the auction or directly in world) or from another resident. Virtual land ownership is complicated, you should read about it before you pay any money: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Buying-land/ta-p/700043 http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Managing-your-parcel/ta-p/700113
  17. If you can't teleport anywhere, there are two things I can think of: 1. You may have a hardware router or modem with a firewall blocking the special ports needed. Generally, the firewall built into Microsoft Windows is not a problem - it will ask you about Second Life, just answer that it should allow Second Life. Hardware firewalls are a different matter, and are usually more complicated. See http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-Second-Life-with-a-firewall/ta-p/1304539 2. Maybe you created your avatar as part of an educational instution, though the interface the school provided. Edu avatars are often locked to the school's property, and can not leave. If you can teleport some places, but not others, there can be many causes: 1. You might be under-age, so you can't go to adult or moderate rated places. Even if you are adult aged, you still have to set the viewer software to allow access - when you install the viewe it defaults to allow only "general" rated region access. 2. The owner of the place you want to go to may have set restrictions on who can get in. 3. The place you are trying to go to no longer exists, or the region has a problem and is temporarily off-line. 4. Teleport failures are not that rare, particularly if you are wearing something that is heavily loaded with script.
  18. This is a resident forum, the Lindens do not post here. We are residents just like you are. If you need help with a billing problem, these web pages give Linden Lab contact info: https://support.secondlife.com/billing-support/ http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-contact-customer-support/ta-p/739385 If you have a negative Linden balance in your viewer, you probably joined a group that has shared liabilities. Check all your groups to see if any charge members a fee.
  19. You don't need to be premium to rent land from another resident (a landlord). You pay the scripted rent box usually once a week with Lindens. This is a resident to resident action, so Linden Lab has nothing to do with it. This is not "tier". Tier is what you pay directly to Linden Lab (in US dollars) for the right to hold virtual land. Tier is paid from your credit card or PayPal through the Linden Lab auto-debit web system (actually this is just like what happens when you buy Lindens on the Lindex or through the "Buy Lindens" button in your viewer). If you are having problems with a scripted rent box in-world, you will have to contact the owner of the rent box. I am guessing, but maybe you have to join a "tennent group" first? Most landlords have a special group for their renters. In order to be able to rez anything on the land you are renting, you have to be wearing the group tag.
  20. Is your avatar wearing a tattoo layer "hairbase"? That seems to be a new thing. At least it is relatively new for me. Some wigs come with a matching head tattoo. If it matches the wig, it can work well. Look in your Current Outfit folder for an icon that looks like a dragon (a red dragon icon in Firestorm viewer). That icon shows something you are wearing on the tattoo layer.
  21. There have been several different crashing bugs reported when editing. One is on ATI/AMD Radeon video cards with certain newer video drivers installed (12.2), if editing "glow" is enabled. It is enabled by default. Try turning glow off when editing (On Firestorm viewer: Build --> Options --> Show Selection Outlines). You can also try turning off basic shaders.
  22. Is it in a box? You have to get it out of the box before you can use it. See: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Opening-boxes/ta-p/700185
  23. Are you contributing tier to a group that owns land? Log into your Dashboard and check out your land ownership etc. https://secondlife.com/my/?lang=en-US Also, tier is billed for the previous 30 days, so you may have one more payment after you get rid of all your land.
  24. The Linden's mainland auction page is another good place to buy land: http://usd.auctions.secondlife.com/lin/auction/auction/list/ Be sure you go in-world and look at the land, and also read the auction FAQ and the Knowledge Base articles on land before putting any money down. Search the Knowledge Base, there are a lot of articles about virtual land in Second Life. http://usd.auctions.secondlife.com/ http://usd.auctions.secondlife.com/faq http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Managing-your-parcel/ta-p/700113 http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Buying-land/ta-p/700043
  25. System clothing (body paint) is baked onto your avatar, and moves with it. Good to wear under prim or mesh clothing in case the prim or mesh or alpha does not rez. Shape of system clothing is limited to the surface of your avatar. Sculpty attachments and some prim attachments are rigid props worn as attachments. However, most prim attachments are flexi. They blow in the wind and trail behind when walking. Because of this, flexi skirts are always worn together with matching system pants. Mesh comes in two types: Rigged and un-rigged. Rigged mesh is the best kind, as it moves and bends realistically with your avatar. It is NOT painted onto the surface of your avatar, so can have any shape. It is not adjustable, and usually requires an alpha to prevent the avatar from showing through when you walk. Unrigged mesh is basically the same as sculpty attachments. It is rigid and does not bend when you move. An alpha may or may not be needed to hide the avatar parts from showing through.
