  1. I don't know much about Anime heads (I never wear them), but generally there are two ways to hide the avatar under some worn object: 1. Alter your shape, save the edited shape as a new named shape (store it somewhere in your inventory), then include that shape in the Outfits folder for each outfit that needs it. Outfit folders don't actually include anything real, they are just full of pointers that point to various attachments and things stored in other parts of your inventory. So when you "wear" an "Outfit" it goes and fetches all the bits and pieces from all the different places where they are stored in your inventory. 2. Wear a correctly fitted alpha. These are very effective at hiding parts of your base avatar under modern mesh attachments (like shoes). Alphas can be linked from an "Outfit" folder just like any wearable thing can be linked. If an alpha did not come with your items, you can get a variety of low cost generic alpha packages in the marketplace. You can try different alphas in the pack, until you find one that works. You can also create or modify alphas yourself, with Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, or Paint Shop Pro, but that is rather complex and has to be done outside of Second Life.
  2. For inventory loss, see these web sites: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Inventory_Page_The_Inventory_Recovery_Steps http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_missing_inventory?s[]=inventory&s[]=loss It is normal for viewer preference settings to return to default when you do a full clean re-install of the viewer software.
  3. Are you wearing two animation overriders? Try removing any animation overriders (HUD or viewer based). Also try removing attachments like shoes, which sometimes contain their own animations. Wearing two animation overriders causes problems, because they will fight each other. Finally, turning off and then back on again your animation overrider HUD may clear up problems. When you are not wearing any animations, you should see the default Linden animations (walk, fly etc.)
  4. There will be a $1 Linden charge if you just added a new credit card. This charge should soon be automatically reversed. The purpose of this is to verify that your card actually works with Linden Lab's system. Note that most pre-paid / debit / rechargable cards do not work with Linden Lab, but may work with some of the authorized Linden resellers. If you choose to buy lindens from a 3rd party, be sure you ONLY buy from an authorized Linden reseller. 5. You can use the in-viewer web search tool to search for infohub and it will find over 100 of them. Open one up and read the description, and click Map to see it on the map. See if it is part of a large continent. The description should say it is owned by the Lindens if it is a Linden infohub.
  6. Try clearing the cache in Internet Explorer (not the cache in the Second Life viewer). You are using Internet Explorer to reach the Marketplace web site, right? To clear the cache in Internet Explorer, go Tools menu, Internet Options, and Delete Browsing History. Do not preserve any cookies or temporary internet files. Wait for it to finish (the delete may take some time), then restart Internet Explorer
  7. You can stop spam posts from reaching your Second Life web profile Feed and Inbox by locking those down. Set it so only friends can send messages to your Inbox. Log into http://my.secondlife.com then select Settings, then click on the Privacy tab, then scroll down to find Post on your Feed and Send you messages then set those for Friends Doing that stopped it for me.
  8. You don't need premium membership to rent a house and land from a private landlord. You may still want premium anyway for access to premium only sandboxes, wilderness, gifts, and for access to Linden chat help. You must have a premium account if you want: A Linden home. To own mainland. If you do sign up for premium, the quarterly or annual payment plan is cheaper than the monthly premium payment plan.
  9. Do you have RLV enabled in your viewer? Were you wearing anything that is RLV enabled, or anything that was a gift recently given to you by a stranger?
  10. If you can not buy Linden $ directly from Linden Lab, you may want to check out the Linden Dollar Authorized Resellers: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Linden_Dollar_%28L$%29_Authorized_Reseller_Program Some of them accept a wider range of currencies and types of currency than the lab does. Be careful to use only Linden approved authorized resellers. Do not fall for that spam that is going around suggesting you can buy Linden dollars for much less money. It is a trick, it is not safe. See http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Featured-News/An-Important-Reminder-About-Buying-and-Selling-L/ba-p/2334937
  11. There can be problems jumping from a web page into Second Life. It is easier to just log into your avatar, then use Control M to bring up the in-world map. From there you can search for the name of any sim, put in the location and click teleport. I think Saminekim is a good place to get premium gifts.
  12. Second Life land is complicated. There is land you rent from another person (you don't need a premium account for that), mainland parcels you buy but must then cover with monthly tier, and private islands. Every premium account comes with 512 m of tier built in. Tier is the capacity to hold land, not the actual land. If you own more than 512 m of mainland, you need more tier (which you can get by paying an additional monthly fee). Linden homes are special. They use up your 512 m tier allocation, but you don't have a right to modify them or sell them or run a business from them. See: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Buying-land/ta-p/700043
  13. I had something like that happen once. Not quite the same, but it was a bad body part that had not loaded correctly. I was able to just right click the part in inventory and wear it again and that fixed it. I think it started when I crashed while swimming. Look carefully in your Current Outfit folder. Is anything wrong or missing? Do the things you see in Current Outfit match what you are actually wearing? If the stuck animation only happens when you are in one sim (but not when you TP to another sim), you may have dropped an object that has the animation in it on the ground. It can still animate you if you are in the same sim, if it has animation permissions for your avatar.
  14. Does her reply contain any pictures or attachments? Those can use up space really fast. The default screen capture snapshots are not compressed much and take up a lot of room. Send fewer attachments or pictures in each reply.
  15. If you are renting, you need to join the group your landlord provides, and be sure you are wearing the group tag when you set home. There has been one report that renters can not set home, even when they are wearing the group tag. Does anyone know if this is fixed? http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/Is-there-a-glitch-in-quot-set-home-to-here-quot-Can-t-get-it-to/qaq-p/2319613
  16. I just had the same problem. I use Internet Explorer. When I went to My.SecondLife.Com it asked me to log in, then gave the same error. So I started over, signing into this forum first, then opening a new tab, then it went right to the My.SecondLife.Com web site with no problem. So I think the problem must be in the sign-on process.
  17. A quarterly premium membership is the same as a monthly premium membership, except it is cheaper. $9.95 per month adds up to $29.85 per quarter. So you save money on the quarterly plan ($22.50 per quarter). All premium accounts have the same benefits. A free Linden house if you want it (or no house and use the free tier to cover 512m of mainland), access to: premium sandboxes, premium wilderness, a premium gift, Linden help live chat, and a 300 L stipend. Premium accounts can own mainland of any size, but if you own more than 512 m2 you pay an additional monthly tier charge. You do not need a premium account to rent land/houses from a landlord in Second Life.
  18. But there are two different fees associated with (modern) premium accounts: The regular premium fee, which can be paid monthly, or quarterly, or yearly. It is cheaper if paid quarterly or yearly. Tier, which must be paid every month, if you own more than 512 m2 of mainland. It sounds like the poster bought mainland in addition to a Linden house (the Linden house counts as 512 m2). So suddenly monthly tier charges began... The other possibility is that the poster has or had one of those very old, very rare accounts that give you premium like status without paying any fee. Very few people have one of those accounts.
  19. It could be your laptop is overheating. Try reducing your graphics settings in the Second Life viewer.
  20. You are able to log into this web site, so your password must be working. Try clearing your Internet Explorer cache. In Internet Explorer, Tools menu --> Internet Options --> Browsing History --> click the Delete button
  21. Baht is the money used in Thailand. The code for this money is THB. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baht Baht is one type of money accepted by the Lindex exchange, but only if you have the right kind of credit card: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Billing/ta-p/700037#Section_.3 The Linden web page says: "Issues with prepaid and gift cards A common cause of payment method failure is the use of unsupported card types. At this time, the majority of prepaid cards are not compatible with our system, even if they bear the VISA/AMEX/Mastercard logo. This includes cards purchased at retail stores, rechargeable credit cards, and bank-issued check cards." Baht is also accepted by Pay Pal https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/sell/mc/mc_intro-outside and so will be accepted by just those authorized Linden dollar resellers who say they accept "all types of Pay Pal supported currencies". http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Linden_Dollar_%28L$%29_Authorized_Reseller_Program
  22. There are two different versions of Adobe Flash Player. If you use Internet Explorer, by default you will download the one for Internet Explorer which does not work with Second Life. You need to get the version of Adobe Flash Player made for "Other Browsers". See http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ It is OK to have both versions of Flash Player installed at the same time. If you re-install or replace Second Life viewer, you should then un-install and re-install Flash Player to be sure Flash Player connects correctly with the new Second Life viewer.
  23. I agree with everything Rolig said, but in addition, if you keep getting hacked repeatedly, your e-mail may actually be compromised. Change your email password, and your other passwords also. Also run an anti-virus scan on your computer. Be sure your anti-virus is up to date and a firewall is turned on in your computer (in modern versions of Microsoft Windows, the firewall should be on by default). Check your web browser address when you go to the Marketplace. It should be marketplace.secondlife.com and the sign in is id.secondlife.com There has been a scam which uses a fake marketplace to capture your password. You can tell by the address that shows at the top of your web browser if you are on the real marketplace or not. Don't save your password in your Second Life viewer. Type it in every time you log in.
  24. This looks like a bake fail. Try teleporting to a different/less busy region and doing a re-bake. Also see the Firestorm help wiki page for Bake Fail. http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_bake_fail Sometimes replacing specific parts of the avatar will fix this. For some reason, hair bases often cause problems. This does not mean the actual skin or part is bad, it just means it failed to load. Replacing it with a different one will often fix the original, which can then be worn again.
