  1. Hehehe .... I'll be five next month, and the only reason I know about it is that I was looking for another keyboard shortcut last week and remembered seeing it in passing. So I'm not far ahead of you on the learning curve.
  2. File an Abuse Report from your viewer. Help >> Report Abuse. See http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Filing-an-abuse-report/ta-p/700065 for more information.
  3. One likely answer is that you have a firewall blocking your access. See http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-Second-Life-with-a-firewall/ta-p/1304539 for information about how to configure your firewall for SL.
  4. I should have mentioned in my earlier reply that the best way to learn about prims is to visit the Ivory Tower of Prims in world. You can find it with your Search tool. You'll discover loads of tutorials and informational displays there. Many of us who do a lot of building in SL made our first steps there.
  5. From the Linden Lab Intellectual Property Policy: "Celebrities have a "right of publicity", which means that they have a right to control commercial uses of their name, image, likeness, and other aspects of their identity. Although you may be a fan, you risk infringing celebrity rights if you use a celebrity name or likeness in connection with in-world objects you trade, and you don't have the celebrity's permission. If you are a trademark owner or a celebrity and you believe your rights have been infringed in Second Life, please submit a notification of infringement in writing to: Linden Research, Inc. Attn: Legal Department 945 Battery Street San Francisco, CA 94111 Alternatively, fax the document to (415) 520-9660. To submit a notification, you must be the intellectual property owner or an authorized agent of the intellectual property owner. Do not submit an abuse report. Requests to remove allegedly infringing content are not handled through the abuse process. So, the most likely answer to your question is that whoever controls the "right to publicity" for Michael Jackson has not submitted a notification of infringement, either because they are unaware of a potential infringement or because they are not concerned about it. Nobody else can do it.
  7. PRIM = Primitive Building Block. Everything in SL is made of prims. See >>> https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Prim HUD = Heads Up Display. Custom-designed control panel on your viewer screen. See >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Heads-up-displays-HUDs/ta-p/700083 As Alicia says, Google is your friend. So is the Knowledge Base (See the tab above ^^) and the SL wiki
  8. You are not the only one. Look down the list of questions before yours for the past week or more and you'll see several others. Some people who have ATI graphics cards are having this problem with the most recent V3 upgrade. See http://jira.phoenixviewer.com/browse/FIRE-4945 . For a quick but temporary solution, go to Preferences >> Graphics and disable Basic Shaders. For a more permanent solution update the 12.1 Catalyst driver from http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx?type=2.4.2&product=2.4.2.... or run the AMD driver autodetect tool to update: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/auto_detect.aspx
  9. Take a look at https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-1002 and, if appropriate, consider adding your own observations and comments. Also add yourself to that JIRA's "watch" list, because that will give the issue higher visibility to the LL developers. BTW, note that one person who responded to that JIRA claims to have had success posting events with the Firefox browser when he couldn't do it with another one.
  10. If you are having trouble seeing profiles at my.secondlife.com, try using a different browser.
  11. Please ensure that your video card drivers are fully up to date. Nvidia Video Driver Latest driver Last checked Feb 6th- Windows: 285.62 (Oct 24) beta: 295.51 (Jan 31) - Linux: 290.1 (Nov 22) ATI Video Driver Latest driver Last checked Feb 6th- Windows and Linux: 12.1 (Jan 25) Intel Video Driver Intel driver download page Intel does not have a universal driver set. Please go to Intel's site and select the appropriate download. If you have more than one monitor, and run your main SL viewer on any but the primary, try moving its window to the primary monitor. Go to Preferences → Graphics and click the Advanced button near the bottom. Then at the bottom of the window, disable “Hardware Skinning” and click “Ok”. You may have to relog for this change to kick in. If you are using Firestorm and wearing an alpha layer causes other parts of your body to vanish, you may have this bug with version 3.2.2.24336. Do a clean install of version 3.2.1.24179, available on our downloads page.
  12. You may. Just change the quantity to zero. In general, however, I suggest avoiding the shopping cart completely. Buy items one at a time with the "BUY NOW" button. You will have many fewer problems that way.
  13. I'm not sure what you mean by "equipping" a sword, but if all you want to do is "wear" your sword in a slightly different position, that's easy. First, be sure that it is attached at the attachment point you want to use. Then, stand very still, preferably on a pose stand, and select the sword wih your Build/Edit tool (CTRL + 3). Then use the red/green/blue arrows to move the sword around, or hold down the CTRL key and use the red/green/blue circles to rotate it.
  14. I'll offer you two suggestions: (1) Take a look at https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/CHOP-849 and consider adding your own comments to it if you think you are having the same problem. Click "Watch" (upper right corner) as well. (2) Do not post a question like this as an "extra" at the end of someone else's thread, especially one that is 6 months old. Almost nobody will see it.
  15. Give it a try. A prim is a prim, whether it has a sculpt map applied to it or not, so I'd expect it to work.
  16. "and the person did not ..... receive? ... acknowledge? .... like? ..... accept? ...... understand?... it" I'm going to guess that you meant "receive." If I'm wrong you may try again. It can sometimes take anywhere from a few minutes to a day or more for your items to be delivered, especially if the merchant's Magic Box is temporarily out of service or the sim it's on is offline. Not that it helps now, but to remember for the future: (1) Don't overuse the shopping cart. It is easily confused if you put more than a couple of things in it. (2) Don't buy things from Marketplace (especially LOTS of things) unless you are in world to receive them at the time. We each have an "in box" that holds IMs, notecards, group notices, group invitations, and anything that is delivered to us if we aren't in world at the time. That "in box" can only hold 25 things, total. If anything else comes in, it isn't saved. It is gone ... poof .... forever. If you have a mess of things delivered from Marketplace and half your friends send you notecards, that in box will be capped and you will never know what happened. So, what do you do now? ....... To get a record of the individual items in your order, open Marketplace and click the My Marketplace menu at the top of the page. Select My Account >> Order History from the pulldown menu. If you (or your gift recipient) do not receive items within about 24 hours, you should cut and paste the information about a missing item from that Order History and send it in a IM or notecard to the merchant, along with a polite message requesting redelivery. Most merchants are very kind and willing to redeliver. This happens all the time and they are aware of it. Do be patient, though. Not everyone logs in to SL every day or checks their e-mail. If you still haven't heard in another day or two, follow it up with a second polite note and finally, if you STILL haven't heard, file a support ticket at https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ , selecting Marketplace from the pulldown menu.
  17. All sound, or just streaming audio? If it's streaming audio, not your ambient sound and UI dings, consider this advice from the Firestorm/Phoenix support team. Not being a Linux user myself, I have no idea, but it might be relevant to your situation.... Streaming audio/video issues on 64-bit linux distros are primarily due to the fact that Firestorm is a 32-bit build. This introduces compatibility issues. Nonetheless, some workarounds are possible. But be aware that they are not necessarily flawless. First, please ensure that you have gstreamer installed, along with these 3 plugin sets: good, bad, ugly. You will also need to ffmpeg plugin. Many distros come with all of these already installed, but some do not (eg, OpenSuSE). Log out of Firestorm. Using your file manager (dolphin or whatever), locate the Firestorm install directory), and inside that the shell script called firestorm. Open this with a text editor (Kate, or whichever you prefer). Find the line, '#export LL_BAD_OPENAL_DRIVER=x', in the 'firestorm' script, and take out the '#', to make the line look like 'export LL_BAD_OPENAL_DRIVER=x', save the script. Now run Firestorm and try streaming audio. You may experience a delay in in-world sounds; if so, relogging might help.
  18. Your prim allotment is directly proportional to the area of the parcel you own. To get more prims, you need to own a larger parcel. Your Linden Home is on a 512m x 512 m parcel, for which the allotment is 117 prims. You cannot increase the size of a Linden Home parcel, so you are stuck with a maximum of 117 prims. If you are a careful shopper or builder, you can do an amazing amount with 117 prims. If not, you can eat up the entire allotment with a single 117 prim sex bed.
  19. Robin Mapp wrote: [...] now can you fix the 10M rezz limit :matte-motes-big-grin-wink: Yes! I have been experimenting recently, thanks to a comment that Lucinda made in another thread. It turns out that Linden Lab quietly changed the rez limit sometime last year, probably when they made it possible to create 64m megaprims. With a little guidance from a voice from beyond, I have determined that the rez range now is approximately float Range = llVecMag( 0.5 * llGetScale()) + 10.0; I say "approximately" because the formula doesn't apply at all to prims that are sub-megasized. Your rezzer has to be at least 10.1m x 10.1m (Z doesn't seem to make much difference). Also, the "0.5" factor is almost right, but a slight underestimate for really large rezzer prims.
  20. Not a good idea. Render Unloaded Avatar means exactly what it says. It displays your avatar "as is", even if it is not ready to be rendered. You get Ruth, which is what we used to get before they invented the fluffy cloud. Render Unloaded Avatar is not a solution. Neither is clearing your cache. See http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_bake_fail
  21. From https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Alt_Account_FAQ: Currently, you can create: Up to five accounts per household. No more than two accounts in a single 24-hour period. Alt accounts must adhere to all Second Life policies. For example, by agreeing to the Terms of Service (TOS) you agree to provide truthful and accurate information about yourself when you register for accounts; that includes not only your contact information and real name but also whether this is your first free basic account or a new alt (see TOS section 2.1). People who do not provide truthful information risk losing their accounts.
  22. If I knew your language, I would try to translate my answer for you. I'm sorry that it is in English, but maybe you can use Google translation....... 23. It may mean that the sim you are trying to log on to is off line at the moment. It could also be very busy and unable to accept any more avatars. Try logging in at a nice, quiet sim like Pooley or Aqua and then teleporting to your destination or a nearby sim.
