  1. No microwaving hot-pockets in the room with the wireless router. (runs back to my home office)
  2. [pats Samson on the back comforting him] No sweetie, It's working here for us in California. What error are you receiving?

  4. Bonjour mon cher Guilhome.
  5. Scott, Here are some of the things that can ruin your connectivity to SL on a fast FIOS connection VERIZON ROUTER [don't let the new style router do Packet State Inspection] - My daughter suggested this THINGS BETWEEN YOUR ROUTER and PC [if Using a Wireless Extender HUB it needs to be N-Class or better at the Router AND at the Extender/HUB AND at the PC as Well] - My daughter Insists on this! CAT5 or CAT6 Cable to Your PC [test with a new one just in case] WIRELESS CONNECTION TO PC [Try a CAT5 or CAT6 Cable - Pretty Please ] [microwaving hot-pockets in the room with the wireless router] PC SOFTWARE [Don't let your Anti-stuff Software scan each and every packet coming in either] PC SOFTWARE [Don't have Team Viewer 7 Installed or operating when using SL] More to come.
  6. Rose, If you manually downloaded SecondLife, then navigate to your download folder [sorry, you need to find this yourself] and run the installation program. Look for the installation program named something like this: Second_Life_3-3-3-260300_Setup Double click on that program. After that, a nice shiny icon will be on your desktop.
  7. Afrodite, Hmmmmm - I'm bored this morning - Lets look at the economics of that. Looking at only Private Regions: Full Region - $295.00 USD per month - Region located on a single CPU core [15,000 prims] Homestead Region - $125.00 USD per month - Region shares a CPU core with 3 other Homesteads [3500 prim /HS - 15000 total] Open Space Region - $75.00 USD per month - Region shares a CPU core with 3 other Open Spaces and very limited prim and avatar allowance Your request would add... Half Region - Region shares a CPU core with 1 other Half region [7500 prim /HR - 15000 total] Lets do some quick math... If management & grid over head + server ./ core expense for a Full Region is $295.00 USD /Core & If management & grid over head + server ./ core expense for a Homestead Region is $500.00 USD total [$125.00x4 cores] Then you get [295x1]+[125x4] / 5 [regions] = a average price of a region in this pricing family = $159.00/month mean income requirement. - The difference in the charged price between regions being a function of the value associated with the increase in prims & overall performance. Thus 1) the Full Region is charged an additional $136/mo above this mean average for added prims & performance 2) the Homestead Region is discounted $34/mo below this mean average, acknowledging a reduced prims & performance Assuming the $159 to be some magic internal LL income average requirement for occupied regions then:your 2 regions would be priced about here: $159.00 USD + [messy formula here - to average out the support & real cost price range deltas ] = $159.00 minimum assuming this Region type becomes the mean but $200.00 "feels" closer to reality. So on a price per prim basis... Full Region: 15000/295.00 = $0.019666 / prim Half Region: 7500/159.00 = $0.0212 / prim Homestead: 3500/125.00 = $0.0357 / prim Your suggestion on the face of it makes some economic sense. So why not make it available? Because 2 regions on a CPU still eats a certain amount of basic overhead in electrical, networking & management overhead. That average mean calculation is a reversed engineered value, not the actual internal LL value. My guess would be that the cost needed for your 2 Region per CPU scheme would be closer to; $200.00 per Half Region: Half Region: 7500/200.00 = $0.0266 / prim Still fitting nicely into the mix. So still why not implement this: Answer: MAINLAND 1/2 Region - 32,768 sqm - 7,500 - US$125 = $0.01666 / prim Entire Region - 65,536 sqm - 15,000 - US$195 = $0.013 / prim Mainland pricing so beats this scheme – People needing only 7500 prims probably will not want to pay a difference of $75 per month for the performance boost. People needing 15000 prims are willing to pay $100 / month more for a private estate for the performance, avatar count, security management and ability to self restart the region. ----------------- But what do I know? Just my 10 cents and my being bored this morning...:cattongue:
  8. I wouldn't throw that PC out of my Bed....room office My daughter looking over my shoulder said to up the PS to 750 watts or better. But the question we always want to make sure of is this: Do you have a really fast and reliable internet connection? The best PC for SL can be made begging with a poor internet connection or inferior router.
  9. Isn't the sound of running water so lovely? I personally love it....... Unless it is so loud I feel like I'm being water-boarded. The advise given is exactly what you need to do. }drags out soap box here{ Oh Linden Lab - why don't you include a kewl little option to allow the owners to firewall sounds from neighboring parcels. Just asking. }jumps off soap box here{ Note: There is a Product Request in already asking for this: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-9264 It's only been requested for 4 years. I'm sure it's close to being implemented :cattongue:
  10. If you have no issues using couples dance balls elsewhere in SecondLife, you have your answer. Visit those places. It's up to the owners of Big Daddy's to deal with issues their customers are encountering. You usually can't do anything to correct issues on a Parcel/Region that you are not the owner of. Let the management of BD's know your issues. My advise to them is to regularly restart their region.
  11. Alecia, Rolig's advise is spot on. When I 1st learned scripting and had done [to my mind] a few very complicated projects, I decided to tackle learning about AO's. Afar carefully examining of the code behind the ZHAO AO, I gained a new appreciation for the developers of these totally necessary additions to my avatars presentation. After several hours of tinkering I looked at the value of my time versus my intent on that project. My expertise was in entertainment, DJing and managing estates. I did research and found several HUD-based AO systems that did what I need and spent my Lindens wisely. But having learned about the HUDs and how they communicate and move our avatar bodies was so worth wild. I was especially impressed with the code snippets that compensated for issues with a particular release or the server code and how it related to our movement. Someone was keeping track of JIRAs and didn't wait for LL to fix issues. And this is only the open source ZHAO LSL scripting. The well aged and upgraded commercial AOs deserve their place on the market. 'If you are planning on introducing a new AO with original new features go for it!
  12. Magnum, [Edited to correct exchange information provided] Your example would NOT process immediately at the time I posted this message. Deleted: In fact you would not be getting the best rate at the Limit Buy amount you specified as there are better rates available Correction: I pasted the Sell Rates above - here are the best open rates for Lindens for those wanting to buy them. L$247 / US$1.00 L$58,760,217 L$246 / US$1.00 L$18,190,247 L$245 / US$1.00 L$2,962,733 The Limit buy allows to specify a rate you want to purchase Lindens at per US$ - When Lindens become available at that rate your order is fulfilled. Therefore that rate is at least 10Ls above market and will be open for a long while.
~~~~~~ Usually, the inability to move or really bad movement boils down to a poor internet connection. https://secondlife.com/my/support/system-requirements/index.php? Moving in SL is you sending movement commands with the cursor arrows to the SecondLife Region you are in and that Region sending you updated location detail over and over again and again. If your internet connection is losing packets you are losing valuable information about your avatar's status in the virtual world. If you are using a "wireless" connection to your router, please get a nice Cat5 cable and try using a wired connection. If you see an improvement, you have your answer. If you are already on a "wired" connection your router or it's connection to you service may be at fault. Run a speed test to see the overall speed of your internet connection and if your latency [ping] value is a large number. If the test comes back with a warning about a high number of lost packets you need to take this up with your ISP. http://www.speedtest.net NOTE: Satellite-based Internet is not considered a good method to connect to and use with SecondLife. Another possible cause is a very nosy firewall solution on your PC or Router inspecting and/or discarding packets it has issues with.
  15. Star... The bottom line is that it takes "2" - "Two" - "Dos" - "A Pair" to roleplay and make a baby in SecondLife. What you want is not possible nor would it make any sense for it to be. Your "organ" is only 1/2 the needed equipment. Your intended "partner" for pregnancy needs to supply the "Virtual Womb" which is composed of the scripted responses to your organs "virtual sperm" . As in real life this includes the Womb [body] shapes through all trimesters, the hormonal ups and downs can be RP'd, the Tummy Talker so many couples love to have which replaces the feel of the baby growing in mom and the delivery clinic, mid-wife/doctor and baby. All of this costs big $$ just like real life. Basically, the mother to be needs to accept and have the scripts and objects attached to her person in order for you both to experience virtual pregnancy. All of this fun is managed by HUDs. Note: The notion that the male organ keeps track of the women it "Impregnates" in a database is silly without the 2nd in the tet-a-tet acknowledging the fertilization. That begins to sound like the silly early Bloodlines bite object & HUD that used to steal virtual souls with a all to easy to accidentally respond "Yes" to messages mixed in with a clubs other messages.
  16. Misty, This message "attempt to rezz object failed" can be so frustrating. This is a problem between you and Linden Lab. The business you purchased the product from is not responsible for this nor is it under any obligation to replace the lost product. Note: Several new breedable companies have implemented advanced product databases for tracking the status of all their sold products including the actual pet, food and any breeding supplements. If you have one of these products, then you visit the vendors in-world "Vet" Service or "Recovery" Kiosk location to recover your "crashed" items. Ok looking at ways to recover from this issue: 1) Usually this is a temporary issue due to the Region you are in being too busy or it suffers a temporary failure to retrieve data from the LL Asset Servers. In these cases, the object remains in your inventory. Recovery: In this case you can try again and the object may rez on this attempt. If it continues to not rez. Try relogging and then attempt to rez the object after the relog. 2) The Region you are in too busy or it suffers a temporary failure to retrieve data from the LL Asset Servers. In this case, the object is missing from your inventory. The viewer permission system removed the no-copy object from your inventory list because the server the Region is running and acknowledged the receipt of the request to rez the object in-world. The Regions server issues the message "attempt to rezz object failed" sometimes with additional detail. Recovery: In this case, the server should have queued up a transaction to restore the item back to your inventory. This has failed to happen in the current session. A relog most times will get that transaction processed and the item restored to your inventory. Sometimes this does not seem to work and then it is advisable to ask the Region Owner to restart the region in order to flush out the queued up transactions and to refresh various region statuses. If successful, on your next relog, the missing items will show up in your inventory in a) its original location or b) in the Lost & Found folder. 3) If the 2nd problem description happens during an update cycle to the server software that your Region is located on, then the queued transactions may be purged. In this case the object is lost from your inventory. This may be the case with LL managed regions as they are restarted only during server software updates ~ or ~ by request of one or more of the tenants. Recovery: Open a Support Case with LL using the link below: Please include the following details in the report: a) The date and time of the failure.. b) The name of the Region the failure happened in. c) The name of the no-copy object that is lost. https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ Select the [ Technical Questions ] problem type & the [ inventory (un-rezzed) Issues ] Technical Question type; Put in the details and submit the Support Case. Note: Make sure that your email software is allowing messages from SecondLife to be received as many status updates will be noted via email to the address associated with your account. In all cases. Look for recovered items in either their original locations in your inventory or in the Lost & Found folder.
  17. Hi, That looks like your graphics card's drivers are acting up and the Microsoft runtime library is catching the error... Do apply all your Microsoft Updates including the optional ones that don't install unneeded products like Bing. Get the current graphics drivers as well for your GC. Please let us know your PC model, configuration and GC type, so we can research additional options for you.
  18. Alisha, You do most of the changes now via your My SecondLife page. See yours by following the link below: https://my.secondlife.com/settings/profile instructions are found here: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Profiles/ta-p/1101055
  19. Head here and Buy Lindens up to the full USD Credit you have on hand. https://secondlife.com/my/lindex/buy.php? Simple at pie!
  20. Grey, The actual land owner may have placed a Region size mega-prim at the magic height to hide map details of the Island. The LL automatic Region photo snap will simply capture the prim as textured. Additional interesting things and useless facts about that huge mega-prim Region Cover. 1) This is the trick you see that allows people to do the "Cheesy" advertising that is visible on the Maps Tool 2) To make this work long term the region Owner needs to maintain ownership of the parcel where the center of weight of the monster prim calculates to. 3) This trick used to take 16 - 64m x 64m mega-prims to do. 4) If textured wrong the Region suffered a terrible performance hit when anyone was at the mega-prim height and needed it rendered.
  21. From a DJ's point off View - Please don't - Why? - IMHO 1) No one can really see the name clearly. 2) Anyone needing to address you will use your account name to make sure that the message or "effect" will reach you. 3) Scripted objects will only reference you by your account name. 4) You'll end up upset because most people will not call you by your Display name especially if it is unreadable. 5) This is one of LL's "weirdest / useless / lame" ideas. 6) If you choose to run a business later you will end up abandoning the Display name so customers will actually recognize you.
  22. Madeline, Two ways come to mind. 1) Create a Master Object Folder with standard objects, pre-textured and sized and oriented as you wish with all permissions set accordingly - Then pass those out to the whole team to use in creating new objects for the project. 2) Using Phoenix or Firestorm - you can have everyone specify the object creation defaults - This is harder as it's like herding a clutch of cats and making sure everyone sets the defaults the same is out of your control. Advanced Project Management The other way is to create a Boss Avatar responsible for checking parts out and in of a collaborative build to the person assigned to the next build / scrip[ting activity on the project plan. The project team member then checks the part of the project they have in inventory back to the Boss at regular intervals so that you maintain a version of each step of the building project.
  23. Dougan, Start at the beginning..The link is below: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Second-Life-Quickstart/ta-p/1087919 after you complete the tutorials and install the latest viewer, you should be all set. In fact, you'll be able to pick a completely new avatar look, free of charge.
  24. Tyuu, [ I'm trying to switch from Firestorm to V3 and the viewer won't even run hardware detection ] is the clue here. I'd remove all viewers and the associated caches from your new PC and 1) Make sure all Updates from Microsoft are downloaded and applied using the Microsoft Update task. 2) Make sure your PC manufacturer's free software & firmware updates are also downloaded and applied. 3) Disable any "free" or "Included" Anti-virus software that came with your PC while debugging this issue. ALSO - Please tell us what PC you have including Model Number. This was we can check for specific issues with SL V3 and your PC video card and/or hardware.
