  1. Witch Hunter, Here are the usual reasons you'll end up under water when logging on with a "Home" position set. o The Region/Parcel has undergone recent terraforming or structure rebuilding and the hard surface that the original Home position was set is now higher or lower. o The parcel no longer allows Home Positions to be set and/or is sending you to a new underwater default Landing Point o The parcel no longer allows non authorized visitors and you are being moved to the default Region Center location [which happens to be under water] Here are the other possibilities looking at your other issues: o You;re being ejected from the "Home" region to your "home" region, but that is not going to work because you are no longer allowed access to it. In many cases, you will end up in the "Limbo" zone of your viewer. All the issues you describe occur when this happens. o When the region no longer exists, you are usually moved to a "nearby Region" with an appropriate message. Try doing a login into the LL "Violet" region and find a new Home point to set elsewhere.
  2. There were billing / payment issues today as noted in the GRID Blog http://status.secondlifegrid.net/2012/04/05/post1613/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+SecondLifeGridStatus+%28Second+Life+Grid+Status+Updates%29
  3. Nicholas, All sorts of magical things... It depends on what kind of restart you request. As an SecondLife Estate Owner and a OSGrid Region Hosting experimenter, I restart my Regions on a regular basis especially after a lot of building and rezzing activity. This seems to clear out accumulated server cache data [queued messages [both queued & stalled delivery], detached avatar accounts [a strange problem where someone can not login because their avatar account is not being automatically logged out], resetting stuck semi-deleted objects and a bunch of other region server related performance. Sometimes this is not enough since full regions are assigned to a single processor on the server and the other processors on the same server or the server itself may be having issues as well. When a Region Restart doesn't fix a performance issue [and I've done all the other rechecks for region lagging scripts or texture weirdness] I sometimes have to call Premium Support to request a Server restart. This will usually be done after a careful analysis of that server by the LL Support Staff and can take a few minutes to hours to get done. I've had a LL Staff member acknowledge me a few times where the server itself and/or another region on an other processor on the server was the issue. That kindness made me confident in my Region shooting shooting skills. As I understand it, the LL Server farms allow for many possible virtual server configurations and your region can be reassigned to a different processor on the same server or a different server all together in the same datacenter. Back 2 years ago when we owned 6 regions that were next to each other in the grid, we made a request to LL get them all operating in the same datacenter. This was so improve the cross regions transfers for our residents who flew and used facilities on all the regions.
  4. Nefer, Also make sure you are using the latest drivers for your video card. 5. Gellion, I wrote the following to explain my freeze-up solutions to some friends that were also experiencing similar things... This NC is for everyone who has been installing the latest releases of the SecondLife Viewer [Version 3.3.0 (251182) or later] – Firestorm Viewer [Version 4.0.1.27000 or later] – Phoenix Viewer[Version 1.6.1.1691 or later] and found themselves crashing or freezing up during SecondLife sessions much more frequently. This will also work for previous versions of these viewers according to the blogs I’ve seen researching this problem At the end of March, 2012, my PC started freezing up minutes into a SecondLife session right after upgrading to the new version of the Phoenix Viewer. These freezes required a forced shutdown. Being a SecondLife DJ this was a pretty frustrating issue. Thinking it was an incompatibility with the previous version of Phoenix, I preformed a clean install of Phoenix per the instructions on their support website. Alas, the problem remained. After uninstalling Phoenix and trying both the current versions of SL and Firestorm the problem continued. I thought my graphics card was dying. My very techie daughter [who is a gaming fanatic and flight avionics programmer] helped me tune up my PC, as well as diagnose the problems with it. Lots if little issues were found and fixed but the graphics card was fine. Just a few years old but performing well and still able to over-clock which was a feature I was not using. After a complete clean-up of my PC both physically and software-wise, the problem remained with all 3 of these viewers. The solution ended up being simple. It seems that all 3 of these viewers are relying more and more on several Linden Lab graphics functions that are increasingly making use of the following feature… OpenGL VBO [Vertex Buffer Objects] when a graphics card has this available. My daughter says that this feature has been undergoing a lot of micro-code changes over the past few years and that earlier implementations of this feature are ‘poorly’ done. Updating to the latest drivers for your graphics card will not fix this since this it firmware not software related. This issue will apply to all PCs with a high-end graphics card or chip-set that have a few years on them. The solution below apparently has been published before, however, when it decides to show up as an issue will be dependent on the version of your graphics card VBO implementation and when the viewer starts to use this option more. She told me that March 2012 was my time with a giggle. The new viewers had the use of the advanced hardware graphics options turned on as a default. Her recommendations to me for my PC/Graphics Card combination were to do the following after any clean install and before logging in the first time on any of the aforementioned viewers. These are the instructions for the Second Life 3.3.0 (251182) Mar 15 2012 11:29:12 (Second Life Release) viewer but they are pretty much valid for the other 2 viewers as well. 1) Find the Graphics section in the Preferences 2) Look for the Hardware button/section and bring it up 3) Uncheck the Filtering: [ ] Anisotropic Filtering option [not related but if you are crashing you can’t afford this anyway] 4) Set the Antialiasing: option to [4x ] or better [not related but is makes our leg curves much sexier] 5) IMPORTANT: Uncheck the Enable VBO: [ ] Enable OpenGL Vertex Buffer Objects 6) Let the Default Texture Memory (MB): slider be the default value 7) Click on the [ OK ] button 8) and restart the viewer. I was able to get onto SecondLife and stay on after these changes were applied including running 4 concurrent sessions with the viewer from Linden Lab. The performance increase from recommendations 3 + 4 are a very nice plus. What’s funny is that I didn’t fool with these options before but needed to at this time. Techie-daughter said that is probably because LL is starting using the VBO feature more with each release when it is found on a graphics card but can’t check for the micro-code level of every graphics card [OK I know some of you will know what this means]. Newer gaming oriented graphics cards have this implemented very well she told me. I hope this helps. Can someone from LL add to this if possible?
  6. Sagia, Please also know that several past viewer downloads are available on the Supported Viewers page of the Wiki maintained by Linden Lab. The supported versions are found in the section titled "Channel: Second Life Release" [the link is included below] - Using an older non-supported version of a viewer will get a message indicating you have to upgrade when you try to login with it after a long stay away from SL. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Supported_Viewers Enjoy and good SecondLifing!

Boa sorte!

  10. Hello Sonata, Yes you can access SL using many types of USB Network Devices. The use of a bandwidth limited Phone ISP account will present some problems depending on what the account overuse actions your ISP will impose. This can be extra charges for use above the account plan amount, bandwidth throttling or even access shutdown. SL is graphics intensive and the update information to your PC/Session will use up a lot of bandwidth. You can start with a low level plan and just keep checking your online usage on your ISPs account webpage and compare that to you actual usage of SL. When I was traveling a year ago, I needed the highest level of bandwidth available with the phone card my daughter loaned me and I lowered my graphics settings accordingly when I used the full viewer. For IM only communication, I used one of the 3rd party text applications which saves on bandwidth. If you are a heavy SL user and depend on the full viewer, I'd start with the middle package plan.
  11. Bully, Of course you can report he avatar's who caused you and your friends this grief. Just state facts with all the details including the history of the vocal confrontation and the names of all the avatars involved and those affected.. LL will investigate this most likely because of the earlier immediate action they took against your friends. That is how you stand up for your friends. Your long participation in SL will lend some credibility to your side of the story versus a couple of chronic false report filers. That behavior doesn't work too many times before they are tagged as malcontents. But if you don't report them, there is no possibility that this incident will help end their careers here in SL. Abuse is abuse, in voice or chatted. No one is allowed to threaten anyone here. Filing false reports using one of the LL "hot-button" issues is also wrong. People like that are looking to do this behavior over and over. I doubt they would have any clue as to which LL report about them causes their account to be placed on permanent hold. Nor do they care. Report them and they'll have one less "free ride" on thier spree.
  12. Hello Karen, If you are being TP'd to a location over and over, I would assume that you have a scripted object attached to you that is making you Japanese. Sorry about the humor. OK, once you have arrived, Please look into your inventory, Current Outfit and remove all objects attached to you. Objects are the items with little boxes as the icon next to their name. Don't worry about their names, such an object may be named as an article of clothing to prevent you from identifying it easily. You only need to remove the objects not your clothing layers. Once this is done, try TPing elsewhere and see if the problem continues. If you are free at last, then you need to examine your attachments and look at the date acquired to determine which of those was given to you on the date this problem started. You may file a griefing report once you know the name of the object and can give detailed information to LL about where it was presented to you. Good Luck
  13. This was a fun issue for me as well a few releases of Firestorm ago except I was launching a new session of the SL2 viewer regardless of the actual viewer I was using.. In my case, 1) I uninstalled all SL Viewers [ Firestorm, Phoenix & SL2 ]. 2) Followed the excellent manual hidden file cleanup instructions posted elsewhere in Answers. 3) Ran the Wise Registry Cleaner to fix my PCs registry. I'm guessing this removed a few weird [sLURL] entries which the uninstall of SL2 & Firestorm did not remove. This fixed my issue as my "default" viewer is now properly in charge of all my TPs and SLURL jumps.
  14. Kronik, If indeed your new/used PC's network card MAC address has been banned by LL you can change it on some PC/OS combinations. The following link discusses how to do this. http://compnetworking.about.com/od/networkprotocolsip/a/macaddressing_2.htm However - If you are a Premium Account member, get a ticket into the Support Queue explaining this problem you are experiencing. Assuming that a ban is the culprit, LL can lift it. Be prepared to clearly prove you are NOT the person who the ban was instituted against. Based on my conversations with 2 friends in a similar situation, be prepared to wait up to 6 weeks for this to be resolved.
  15. Hello Cold, Chatting directly or posting directly to an avatar in SL from a Web Page Form is not a supported feature the last time I checked the LSL function library. The use of an intermediate object is required such as a IM Relay Object which uses one of the available methods to keep an open communication with the outside world such as: 1) Posting an email message from a rezzed object in a region, to a known email address. That keeps an email reply "thread" open for 48 hours that you can respond to via an email function interface in your form. But the communication has to be started by the avatar or object in SL first. I guess the email account becomes a kind of poor mans database in this case. 2) You can also use a method similar to what the Hippo Technology group does with their IM message service. They maintain a external to SL database of avatar names and UUIDs. The web form calls a php script that does a database look up of the avatar information and formats a http request reply transaction to send to the one of the "owned" and "rezzed in-world" IM boxes. That box has to look for a message to pass-on on a scheduled basis from an external database source. It then formats an llInstantMessage to the indicated avatar using the "UUID" & "message text" as an argument. I researched this all when thinking about writing a leasing system for my islands. You can post a message to the web site message queue for the avatar as Angel has noted. At this time no notice is presented in-world that you have a message pending on the website. The avatar still has to "look" at the page using the Profile View in the viewer. I hope this will be addressed soon by LL. Good Luck!
  16. Hello LaurahJ, I just checked your profile and you're back! It sometimes tales several minutes [or hours] for an account correction by LL to propagate throughout out all the SL servers. Welcome back!
  17. Jaici, Ariel is very correct in her reply. Additionally, don't be in a hurry in your relationship development here in SecondLife. As in all things, "time wounds all heals." I've found that if you are experiencing a lot of "Drama" being forced upon you by others, it may be time to leave them all behind. Quality relationships take time. Have a lot of friends in SL. Chat to them all. Go out with groups of friends and be social. Once you have the trust that a long friendship engenders, those friends become jewels. We are missing the real life "Tells" that let us know how accurate our perceptions about others are. Only time with someone socially fills in that missing information. Key things to look for are length of time here in SL, the Public Profile, the groups one chooses to publicly display in their profile, The Picks one takes the time to create and fidelity to those things in the profile. Also, you get to know someone here not only by chatting with them, but by also knowing their friends and seeing how they interact with them and your friends. So, are you being "played"? Are the other Avatars too good to be true? Is the "posse" trying to lead you to a decision you don't need to make? Are friends becoming too possessive? Watch out!
  18. Moilagothique, Quel problème rencontrez-vous? Vous pouvez changer la langue de SecondLife utilise en éditant votre "Préférences" sur la onglet "Général".
  19. Basics to try when this occurs: 1) Please try to login on the secondlife website using your account information. If that fails, you have a bigger problem. Start the forgotten login information process at: https://secondlife.com/my/account/request.php?lang=en 2) Additional information can be found at: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Login-failure/ta-p/700109 If you can login to your secondlife website account but not the SL viewer account there are several annoying issues that can cause this, not that you can fix many of these yourself: a) LL has put a temp lock on your account - you should have received an email regarding this. Make sure you allow all mail from secondlife.com & b) Your avatar is in an active group wearing a tag with a damaged character in it [Happened to me and I had the group owner delete the tag after 2 weeks of not being able to login successfully after reading about this in a blog] c) Uninstall the viewer and reinstall it d) Verify you can run SecondLife from your PC and location using another account. e) Be sure to use the classic SL2 Viewer when attempting logins when trying to correct these type of problems. Hope these help!
  20. Lorelei, As many have stated before, there is no specific language in the TOS or Community Standards covering the concept of incest. Age-play is not allowed per-se but all other behavior virtually experienced here in SL by consenting adults is allowed [somewhere] by fiat. By this I mean that if a pair of avatar accounts want to have a open incestuous relationship, they can as long as it's carried on in private and only in public where such behavior is also allowed/ignored by the parcel/estate owners. Estate owners and owners of Adult Mainland parcels may have more restrictive or more explicit rules than stated in the LL TOS. Adult estates are usually very accepting of this type of relationship and role play. If a pair of avatars chooses to walk into a PG club and openly emote the nature or their their incestuous relationship, the owners/management are within their right to ask them to leave and/or including banning.
  21. Hello Diz, Depending on a number of Region/Server and/or your own Internet Speed performance issues, you can find yourself temporarily banned from a parcel under the following circumstances: 1) Crossing over from a region PG parcel to a different region Mature parcel when either region is performing poorly. The information being passed about your session from the previous region to the new one may lag behind and prevent your avatar from being properly validated as a Mature accepting account. [i experienced this on my own regions when I owned several regions, one of which was always PG] 2) I've rarely seen a height ban enforced, but in those cases you will usually get an annoying pop-up message from the security orb denying you access. 3) Teleporting also requires your avatar session state information to be passed on to the new region in a timely manner before it will accept you. Any number if things will slow this process down such as a) The departing region is running slowly due to too many avatars or is experiencing major time dilation. b) The destination region is is running slowly due to too many avatars or is experiencing major time dilation. c) You are heavy in active scripts [e.g. Script-adjustable hair, jewelry & boots are typical] - Depending on which server version a region is running, the rules on what % of your information needs to arrive before you seems to change. 4) Specific "You are Banned from this Land" at TP time are usually from regions or parcels with enforced age or group membership requirements. I hope this helps a bit.
