  1. that's what I do (usually) But I got a brandnew iMac a week ago, and installed lion after testing it on my MBP (it worked fine so far), but have no backup from that iMac. I even have uploaded a few models since then, but I just wanted to exclude lion as a source for that trouble. Anyway, there's lot of work to do with blender, and I hope LL will tame that lion in the meanwhile ;-)
  2. except for the vertex buffer option thingie lion worked ok so far, I just wanted to make sure that the crashes when uploading mesh content is not lion related. Anyway, returning to snow leopard is easier said than done...
  3. thanks, this apparently won't help in my case... next step is I'll go back to snow leopard, though lion worked ok for me so far. At least then I know what should work, and what not. ATM the viewer crashes instantly even when I select a model form the file selector :-/
  4. I'm trying to upload a model for hours now, with countless crashes. I checked the models several times, mostly the viewer instantly crashes when I select the xlow LoD, but sometimes not. Then when I try to add a physics model (very simple, 20 verts) it empties the slots for the already loaded custom LoDs. Does anybody have experiences with that?
  5. even "inspired by" is somehow dangerous...
  6. while working with viewer 2 now daily I'm getting familiar with it, and I dare to say I begin to like it ;-)
  7. for objects of this size it's really the lowest LoD that makes the difference. I built an Ukulele, with auto LoD the PE is 16. Then I made custom Lods, medium and low with an much higher vertex count than auto LoD, but the lowest LoD really simple, with much less verts than auto LoD. It's PE is now 4. You won't see the difference, even with RendervolumeLODfactor 1 come take a look secondlife://Aditi/secondlife/Mesh%20Sandbox%2030/127/179/23
  8. hehe, it's on my schedule for next year ;-) hurtigruten!
  9. but I haven't added the script yet...
  10. it's sandbox 28, with experimental server
  11. I have the feeling, we're slowly getting there. My Drehorgel is down from 11 PE to 4 now...

The new UV map will be laid out as before, minus the vertices you removed. oh, that looks like a great improvement of the workflow. I wish Blender 2.5 had that scripts from 2.49, they work on the selected parts only, instead of decimating the whole object
  13. yes, I learned this on my journey to where I am now, though I could not name it that clearly like you did ;-) it's the step to export LoDs for DAE-files with independent object's, which gives me headaches and crashes my viewer. But, thanks to you and Drongle, there are some hints to watch, sooner or later I will be there ;-) Hopefully the exporter in Blender 2.5 will be able to export proper files for SL-upload in the future...
  14. that's exactly what I'm struggling with. Uploading as one object with submeshes works fine, but I'd like to upload objects with more than 8 materials or so...
  15. I'm a bit confused now. "Object Names" means submeshes? Anyway, removing the slm-file didn't help Edit: I am only able to upload custom LoDs when I join the submeshes before exporting, the other way messes up everything, at least it feels like ;-)
  16. mh, my viewer crashes instantly when I select the medium LoD-model, using that modification. (I checked the .py file twice...)
  17. did you try to select a different location (sandbox) to log in? that worked for me, I had the same issue with alt logging in fine, while my main ava wasn't able to
  18. yeah, it has the "export only selected" checkbox !
  19. thanks, I will check that :-)
  20. and there's still a big difference between PE in the upload window and PE in the edit floater the upload window is much friendlier
