  1. The most important update but unfortunate announcement is that I’ll have to end any more new registrations for the Genki Study Group, or there might not be enough space in Nihongo Tea Room garden for everyone who has responded earlier (the owner joked that we might need a stadium! 😅). We worry it might be hard to have a good learning experience if it’s too crowded. But if there’s any new openings, I’ll definitely post again. The least crowded option at the moment is the weekly Shiritori Japanese x English Language exchange activity every Friday at 10.30pm JST. It’s happening in Nihongo Tea Room as well, but you don’t have to register to join this activity. It is less-structured compared to learning via Genki textbook but it will be good as another Japanese speaking exercise. This activity has the most Japanese native speakers attending in Nihongo Tea Room due to them wanting to brush up their English while casually teaching you Japanese. Sincere apology for those who aren’t able to join this Genki study group any more but hopefully you'll be free on Fridays to join the Shiritori game night. Good luck and all the best in your Japanese studies!
  2. Are you interested to join the Genki 1 or Genki 2 group? After the enrollment announcement, now the Genki 1 group has quite a number of registered learners (around 30 registered names, 15+ attendance average) so it might be too crowded to your liking to be learning Japanese comfortably. But do feel free to contact the Nihongo Tea Room owner, Mystie Slade, and maybe you'll get to Observe the class first to see if you're able to squeeze in or not. However, since you're living in Japan, maybe your level isn't at an absolute beginner's level but for Genki 2 group instead? This study group has about 10 participants on average at the moment, so I think you'll still be able to join this one. There are also a few Japanese learners who are living in Japan participating, so maybe you'll get to share your experiences and stories together. Looking forward to seeing you in Nihongo Tea Room sometime soon, Zippy!
  3. Starting January 2022, every Saturday 9pm JST (Japan Standard Time) equivalent to 4:00am PST / 5:00am PDT (depending on Daylight Savings Time), Yoshi Sensei, a native Japanese volunteer will guide Japanese language learners through both Genki 1 & Genki 2 textbooks, with light homework / revisions to discuss the next Saturday. It's free and Voice Chat is required. Genki 1 Study Group will start mid-January 2022, most likely on Saturday, 9pm JST if there's enough participants. Genki 2 Study Group will start on Saturday too, 8th January 2022, 10pm JST and this is confirmed due to having a couple of existing learners. New participants are welcome if you're already done with Genki 1. Yoshi Sensei plans to guide us with Genki 1 and Genki 2 back-to-back every weekend, from January onwards. Even though I'm starting Genki 2 next year, I'm glad he is doing Genki 1 again at the same time too. I still need to brush up on some learned grammars to polish my comprehension and fluency. Now here's the copy and pasted notice from Yoshi Sensei: And here's a note from the owner of Nihongo Tea Room, Mystie-san, another native Japanese who regularly observes the class. Her English is superb, hence she helps Yoshi Sensei when there are difficult queries from learners. In Nihongo Tea Room, we’re encouraged to speak mostly in Japanese to each other and the relaxed atmosphere makes it feel like we’re at home, rather than in a classroom. In fact, they rather not call it a school because the setting is more casual. For now, we have classmates from America, Australia, France and Poland, while I'm from Malaysia. This also makes it an interesting place to learn about other cultures from different countries while speaking Japanese. Important Note: Nihongo Tea Room has security set to kick newbies (mainly to avoid trolls). Admins would have to manually add a person if their Second Life account is younger than 2 weeks old. So if you’re new to Second Life, please send me an IM before coming by, and then I will inform the owner so she can add you in a safe list. Supposing that your account has past 2 weeks old in Second Life, search for ‘Nihongo Tea Room’ and you will see a Teleporter to the place we have our events every week. If everything still seems too confusing, feel free to IM me and I’ll do my best to help explain things in more detail. Below are snapshots from some of our sessions (photo credit to Mystie-san). Looking forward to welcoming you to our Japanese learning community. よろしくお願いします。

  6. Great detailed explanation from owner of Nihongo Tea Room and Cypris Chat Japan herself! 😍 Really appreciate the information and I'll use it as a reference next time when I'm mentioning the activities with others. All the pictures that I've shared before were from @Mystie Slade too. I would be too distracted into my lessons to manage a snapshot, lol! That's how immersive the Japanese learning activities has been in SL for me and can't believe a year has passed since then. I still have so much to learn and enjoying the journey! 🙇‍♀️ Mystieさん、本当にありがとうございます。
  7. Hi @tickubuck! My bad for forgetting to include SLurl for Cypris Japan, so here it is. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Mallo/171/200/22. Since you mentioned about being new in SL, I will have the owner add you in a Safe List. That's because Cypris Japan has security set to kick newbies (mainly to avoid trolls that kept making new accounts in the past). Admins would have to manually add a person if their Second Life account is younger than 2 weeks old. However, knowing that you are a Japanese learner for 9 years, that's something else indeed. I'll send you an IM in-world letting you know that your name has been added (I'll get it done before this week's Friday Shiritori activity) and looking forward to seeing you there some time soon too!
  8. Hi @internetbrat1, Sorry to bump this post after a year. I wish I saw this post last year because it's almost the same time when I started learning Japanese in SL too! If you are still interested to learn Japanese, there's a weekly Shiritori event in Cypris Japan on Fridays, in a form of Japanese and English Language Exchange. This activity has the most Japanese native speakers due to the them wanting to brush up their English and it's a great way for Japanese learners to improve vocabulary casually while playing make-a-sentence game. You can also find another free Japanese class happening about the same time on Saturdays at the same place but unfortunately the class is almost done learning via Genki 1 textbook, moving on to Genki 2 textbook by end of this year. For those who don't have the textbook, they are provided via PDF by Yoshi Sensei. The lesson page of the day will be displayed like a whiteboard in front of the room so you can still follow along without looking away from your SL viewer. Compared to the Shiritori event on Fridays, the Saturday class is a bit harder since most of us are encouraged to speak only in Japanese. This is due to Yoshi Sensei having very basic English comprehension. However, we know this will make learning Japanese more effective since it forces us Japanese learners to try speaking Japanese no matter what. Nevertheless, do come by and observe anyway or even possibly joining us every weekend if it's not too overwhelming. The last chapters of Genki 1 textbook's grammars are still within the N5 level. So you can say, it's somewhat a Beginner/Upper Beginner level. Please don't hesitate to IM or send me a Notecard if you have any more questions since I rarely check these forums. Good luck in your Japanese learning journey and hope we will cross paths very soon!
  9. Hi @Amberlyn90, Not sure if your time zone would fit most of the daily events in Cypris Japan / Cypris Chat, as they are most likely you and your husband's morning time. Cypris Japan / Cypris Chat is a free language learning community that existed for more than 12 years now. I think you will also find many of us share the same values of crossing over our RL into our SL, and vice versa. We're an international group, so you will definitely get to learn about the different backgrounds and cultures as well. Most of the events are done in the evening Japan time and you can bet there's a lot of Otakus among us there (I'm a mild Otaku but Yoshi Sensei seemed to think otherwise :P). I'm usually there on Saturdays to learn Japanese but for anyone just starting, I highly recommend their Friday Shiritori event, where the activity is done in a form of Japanese and English Language Exchange. The Friday activity has the most Japanese native speakers due to the them wanting to brush up their English. Whereas the Saturday class has only one or two native Japanese to teach the rest of us Japanese learners and we mostly speak in Japanese for that class because Yoshi Sensei's English is very basic. I also highly recommend the parties that are organised in Cypris because their regular DJ is a big Otaku (he's an American who married a Japanese after all, hehe). The next party will be for Halloween, so let's make our Otaku cosplay side shine that day Feel free to drop me an IM or a Notecard anytime. Hope I will get to see the both of you in the near future.
  10. @FurryPawLife Hi there, sorry to be bumping this thread after a while. I did saw the exact avatar with the same name in your screenshot outside of my Linden home. All I did after that was make a Note under their profile of the time, date and rough location on where they stood before poofing. So far I haven't seen the exact avatar the second time but I did notice other ones more than once while staying at home. Same behaviour of emerging nearby within or adjacent to the sim and then disappearing soon after less than a minute. Looking at the gridsurvey link, it's a different bot that surveys my Linden home region and it was months back in January this year. So I'm guessing it might be the other bots, like the ones listed in Lou Netizen's link above.
  11. Second Life clock has moved 1 hour backwards and that means so does the Beginner Japanese lessons in Cypris Japan on Saturdays, plus the other weekly events there. Here's the updated time: BEGINNER JAPANESE 土曜日 午後10時(JST) / 10 PM (JST) SATURDAY, 5:00 AM (PST) You may check Cypris Japan events board if you need more details. Sorry for any inconvenience from my late update.
  12. Hello Stellaria1995! I'm currently learning Japanese for free in a sim called Nihongo Tea Room, created by Cypris Japan. Every Saturday 11pm JST (7am PDT/6am PST), a couple of Japanese volunteers guides us through Genki 1 Elementary Japanese Textbook 2nd Edition (which is free via Internet Archive), with light homework / revisions to discuss the next Saturday. We’re encouraged to speak mostly in Japanese to each other (so having a decent mic & headphones are a must if you want to join in the practice) and the relaxed atmosphere makes it feel like we’re at home, rather than in a classroom. In fact, they rather not call it a school because the setting is more casual. I was astonished that they don’t charge at all, where locally (I'm from Malaysia) it would be hard to find such an interesting Japanese learning experience, especially with a native Japanese teacher too. So far we have classmates from Australia, America, Poland, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Spain. This also makes it an interesting place to learn about other cultures from different countries while speaking Japanese. We’re in Lesson 10 now, so if you don’t mind jumping in midway into the lesson, you’re more than welcome to join us. But don’t be taken aback by the Lesson 10 mark because in the previous sessions, I still struggle to describe Sailormoon to everyone in Japanese(つきのうさぎはどの人ですか). Furthermore, last weekend we had another new classmate who just started learning Japanese too, so our teacher, Yoshi-san is happy enough to drill the basics again for us regulars. Speaking of Yoshi-san, he is the main person who is teaching us Japanese at the moment. Since you're looking for female Japanese native speakers to have conversations with, Cypris Japan founder Mystie-san regularly observe the class every Saturday as she helps Yoshi-san, translating English queries from attendees to Japanese (Yoshi-san's English is quite basic but that made us learn Japanese much better, in my opinion). During other weekly events in Cypris Japan, there are also several other female Japanese native speakers that you can meet to have a chat in Japanese or English because they are mostly there to brush up their English. Perhaps a less-structured Japanese learning via Shiritori might interest you more in a form of Japanese and English Language Exchange. For that particular event, it's every Friday at 10.30pm JST (6.30am PDT/5.30am PST). As for the location, type ‘Cypris Japan’ in the Search section of your viewer and you'll get a Teleporter to ‘Nihongo Tea Room’. If everything still seems too confusing, feel free to IM me and I’ll do my best to help explain things in more detail. Below are snapshots from some of our Saturday sessions (photo credit to Mystie-san). Looking forward to welcoming you to our Japanese learning community. よろしくお願いします。
  13. Thank you so much for opening this thread, as it helps so much with finding that ideal physics effects for my avatar and making it look as realistic as how I wanted it to be. Before, I had most of my slider way below 10 since I don't want to have too much jiggle and since I'm an almost flat-chested person and have a flat butt too (literally a log (^ ^)). However, the boobies still moves a lot when I'm idle and on my standing animation. I don't want a lot of jiggle but a tiny weeny movement when I jump or dance just so make it look a bit real. So thank you all for making me understand the use of Damping and so far, putting it in the middle of the slider helps with making it not jiggle when not doing much movement. I will continue experimenting until I get my desired physics effects. Again, thank you all ()/
  14. Having the same problem too. Hope it will be fixed soon
  15. There isn't any lag and I have allowed the profile to upload in its own time and the error message "Frame load interrupted by policy change" still appears Seems like there are others who are experiencing the same too, when I asked about the problem in Help Island Republic. The same thing appears when I look at their profiles
  16. Yeah, seems like the problem just happened today Hope there will be a fix for this soon
