  1. I needed a teddy bear The vanity looked weird empty, and since I still have stuffed animals from my childhood, I figured one small one fit And thanks!
  2. Mine's just a case of genetics. My father has the same body -- long torso, shorter arms and legs. My torso belongs to a woman who's 5'10"; my legs belong to someone who's 5'-4". We used to have those things in P.E. class where you'd sit on the ground, palm it, and try to lift yourself off the ground. My butt went nowhere, LOL My ex-husband was 6'6" to my 5'7". When we sat down we were nearly the same height -- his height was all in his legs, mine was in my torso. Proportions are weird.
  3. I work to stay under 50K when I'm out and about. Like some others have said, I don't want to be "that" avatar. It's a bit of a bummer, though... I have some amazing jewelry I'd love to wear, but it drives the value sky high. So I stick with my wedding ring, and my Maitreya back necklace (if the outfit I'm wearing works with it), and leave it at that. It's not like you can see my ears anyway
  4. Lordy. Okay, I've been tweaking my proportions ever since I noticed my avatar's arms were short, even considering my own are short (I have a very long torso but short arms and legs -- my fingertips come down to more the middle of my upper thigh than mid-thigh), and I think I've finally got everything fixed. Even measured over and over with one of those proportional measuring thingies. Arms longer, hands larger, neck shorter, neck longer (because there are limits), general height shorter (I do NOT clear 6'), etc. So... I did it? Maybe? More or less, at any rate.
  5. I finally got and put up a Pride flag. We're PFLAG parents RL (we have two kids who are members of the LGBT community -- his older daughter and my younger son), so we let it fly both in both worlds
  6. Decided to hang out at home for a bit, with the elephants and giraffe.
  7. Okay, new pet peeve: random guys who IM you to say "OMG I saw you naked because of lag! I'm sorry!" I mean, dude, whatever. I paid for these pixels; it's not like you couldn't buy them yourself to ogle them. And then they're like "Do you mind if I keep looking at you,? I mean, the naked you?" Okay, spiffy. Now apparently he took a picture... and made it weird. /me shudders
  8. In addition the house on our main parcel, I have a "she shed" which is actually a floating island. I installed teleporter buttons between the "hidden" chamber in the base of the island to get me to our changing room and the living room in the main house. Sometimes I ignore them and fly down.
  9. I don't really bother to differentiate between my SL and RL. They're both part of my life, just different venues. My husband in SL is my husband in RL. I have ridiculous numbers of pets in both SL and RL (although in RL I can't literally stack dogs like cordwood). I have grey hair in SL and RL. This is just how I "do" SL. No struggle involved. Everyone uses SL differently. This is my variant; others' mileage varies.
  10. Exactly, which is why I specified why I, specifically, did it, since you made your comment on a thread I created on that exact topic which requested assistance regarding the very matter upon which you just stated you care so very little. I will confess, I'm a bit baffled why you even felt the need to say anything. I don't care what other people do with their avatars; it's their choice. If they do something I don't care about, I just move on. You felt the need to comment on this particular thread, so I responded with my specific reasons. No judgment, just my rationale.
  11. My avatar, much like me, is just flat-out done today.
  12. My biggest pet peeve is folks who think it's totally okay to cam into my house, select "sit" on my posestand while I'm on it, and then follow up with a "Hi". I mean, I'm assuming the instance I'm referencing was a newbie thing, but holy cats, in what world does it make sense to deliberately skirt the system to enter a residence, then strike up a one-word conversation with one of the occupants? I... I guess I'm just old. It baffles me. Outside of that, most of my irritations in SL are self-inflected, like that time when I meant to pick up a string of fairy lights off the floor of my floating island, and instead picked up the floor itself (note: it's now locked). Or when I put on a pair of sandals and my head came off. Or that time yesterday when I don't know quite what I did, but I managed to remove every attachment from my head -- mesh, alpha layer, jaw, and mesh eyes -- resulting in the lovely look below.
  13. For me, it's because the general shape and features are akin to my RL version (albeit idealized and stylized), and that was something I wanted to retain. It's part of my virtual identity; it's not something I wanted to abandon even though I was upgrading to mesh.
  14. Thank you for the ideas -- I really do appreciate it I'll drag him out shopping tonight, once he recovers from the fact that I planted two coniferous forests on our property. That poor man. The prim allowance dwindles daily.
  15. Not Found has nothing available on Marketplace. 'l Etre has some on Marketplace, but nothing that would work for him. He likes his SL hair to look like his RL hair, which is to say essentially a flattop or a buzz cut... but only a specific kind. He'll work it out
  16. Thank you for the suggestion -- I'll have a look myself in the Marketplace and mention it to him when we get home
  17. He's considering real hair; hence Blender. I'll recommend the BOM option; although at this point that may be more than either of us could manage. We're both still baffled by it, despite reading and watching multiple tutorials. I have faith we'll eventually figure it out (it's not rocket science), but there's something that's not clicking for us yet. We're both a bit impatient with ourselves when it comes to being able to modify our avatars. We need to work on that
  18. I will He's still grousing about himself, and last night he was randomly standing in the family room in SL while glaring at Blender tutorials in RL (he doesn't like the hairbase options available for his mesh head -- he had just found one he liked that was a hairbase-type for his system avatar after over 12 years inworld, so he figures he'll make his own), so I think it will be a bit, but he's made good progress! Thank you! That whole looking like "myself" thing was pretty vital for me feeling okay making the switch, and thanks to Skell's suggestions and lots of slider tweaks, it worked out
  19. Here's our place. We actually just moved; we had property in Flung for twelve years, but during the time we were offworld for the most part, some folks bought the surrounding land and built an airport. When one of them emailed me, we sold them the land (which involved me getting a new computer since my old one was 10 and totally freaked when I tried to log in), then looked for other property. We landed in Rancourt, which is located on Zindra. So... not a lot of background pics But we like where we live, and we derendered the timer for the XXX videos playing behind our house so it doesn't show through our bedroom wall. Priorities, yo. Our home is a Rosebud Cottage, made by Pamela Galli of La Galleria. Furniture is eclectic, with a slant toward LISP. We don't go for realism house-wise in terms of kitchens or bathrooms, because frankly I get enough of cleaning them at our RL house. Also, prims are important so we tend to angle more toward stuff we just "want"... which would include my husband's pack of hyenas, because I am a terrible woman and won't let him have one in RL.
  20. Fair enough, and actually what you said was quite helpful, as you've already given me some idea of where to look Iif I can't get him to behave better (really, he's as obstinate as my RL tortoise), I'll try contacting the creator.
  21. I hope this is the correct forum for this. I have a palm tree that spawns a tortoise which is supposed to crawl around the base and whisper sweet tortoise nothings while doing so. It's cute, but unfortunately the tortoise kind of buries himself partway underground. Considering that he appears to be a sulcata/ gopher tortoise hybrid, this isn't totally unreasonable (they're both burrowers), but I'm hopeful I can somehow tweak him to get him to rest more on our land's surface. Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this? I'm posting here because I'm guessing it's a scripting issue, but ultimately I'm not really sure. I'm more a consumer than a builder in SL, although I can manage some minor tweaks with the aid of concentration and Google. Thank you for any information you all are able to offer.
  22. He did -- he got the Daniel I actually sent him that link yesterday -- I found your blog sometime last week and it's been an absolute goldmine of helpful information. Thank you for taking all that time to do it! I will also point him in your direction; he's off work today, so he may be tweaking his avatar obsessively. Erm... not that I'd do that myself. Nope! Not me...
  23. Thanks This is the result of endless demo heads, and much poor language on my part. Fortunately my offspring are relatively ancient, so they weren't scarred for life. Now my husband has entered the World of Mesh Heads, and we've entered another round of headbanging, in part because he hopes I know everything since I managed to get my head worked out. Sadly, the differences in HUDs between Genus and Catwa are pretty high so I've not been as much help as he'd hoped... but he's bright; he'll get it
  24. I ended up going with a Genus head rather than the Lelutka I'd originally purchased. Yep, that's 5000 lindens down the drain, but ultimately I feel much better with the Genus, and was able to make it look more "me"
