  1. Thank you Although I will say that the "quickly" is a bit subjective. I've spent the past few weekends working on this with at least five Lelutka demo heads, an actual purchased Lelutka head (Greer), and finally decided to go with Genus instead... so there was definitely a lot of practice going into this last effort.
  2. For some reason I decided to stand in a fountain.
  3. Okay, final edits are up, along with different hair since that particular one wasn't playing nicely with the mesh head (and looked a bit like a helmet): I just need to find some eye makeup that matches my former look, or adapt to a bit more natural face Thank you, Skell! Signed, Ajay, who is no longer a giraffe
  4. Okay, here's the latest iteration. I think I need to shorten my neck a little more, now that I see it in a static print rather than dynamic. But it's getting closer Also, Skell, what you said about the mesh heads being a bit like aging is spot-on. Even when we do things with our faces RL to help alter the aging process (I totally admit to fillers and botox), the effects of aging are still there. We can direct them somewhat, but they're not possible to erase.
  5. Thank you so much, Skell -- this is all fantastic. I'm going to drink another jeroboam of coffee and get to work with the sliders again. Also, good call on the neck. I can't believe I missed that, but I look quite like a giraffe. A special thanks on the mouth -- I would like it to be a bit more of a cupid's bow. The uptilt at the corners is a no-go as far as I can tell -- the Genus head doesn't have a lot of response in that area.
  6. Okay, I'm still working on this whole mesh head thing. I finally gave up on my Lelutka head, because I was having a dickens of a time trying to make her look a bit less ticked off, and went with the Genus classic. I've been tweaking the sliders since about 1 AM SLT (4 AM my time, because my very RL puppies were yapping their heads off -- they're napping now, naturally, four hours later), and the attached is where I currently am. I took a screenshot with a picture of my system head in it. I still prefer my system head? I mean, the mesh head looks okay, but it's still not "me". Is this just something we adapt to, or can anyone find some settings/ parameters I should look into tweaking to make me look more like "me"? Suggestions/ comments are more than welcome. I'm just glad I managed to work out the whole appliers thing.
  7. I hope it's not too late to comment on this When I first joined SL, I worked to make Ajay (for A.J. -- my RL initials) as much like me as I could in appearance, although she got my 23-year-old body rather than my "spawned two offspring" variant. I mean, I dress my RL body every day. When I come in to SL it's fun to zip back a few years. That said, my hair color inworld has matched my hair color in RL pretty consistently... although which world's version led the way has varied I first had brown hair, because my RL hair was brown. Then in SL I went more toward red... and over time in RL I did the same. Now in RL my hair has gone natural (if you find my inworld profile, my first life picture shows me this past December), so Ajay sports a silver mane to go along with that. I've actually toyed around with trying to create some crow's feet at my eyes also, but I haven't had much luck. I don't mind aging in RL and wouldn't mind showing some in SL, but most of options I've seen for aging avatars inworld tend to go more toward the stage-makeup variant of aging, rather than just some laugh lines To me, SL is more another place than it is another plane of existence, so I tend to just be myself. In RL I partake of whatever cosmetic enhancements are available and reasonable; in SL I do the same. Thankfully, in SL I don't have to lift weights
  8. Looking at all the Genus love, I might have to play with my demo on that a bit more. I also need to watch and read a ton more mesh head tutorials, because so much that's intuitive for people who've been working with this over the past several years is utterly garbled for me. Good thing it's the slow season at work
  9. I'm so far behind the learning curve on this I'll give it a shot. If not, as you mentioned above, I'll try to either hunt down my original box or get a redelivery. Thank you for reminding me of this. I love my mesh body, but the mesh head thing is really messing with my head... quite literally LOL. I'd just give up on it and resign myself to wearing a system head into perpetuity, but with so many creators concentrating on appliers and no longer producing system skins, my options for makeup changes are becoming quite limited. Then again, I tend to wear the same makeup IRL about every day so it's not as if that's something I'm not used to... ... but part of the fun of SL is trying on looks that wouldn't work on my 50-year-old RL face. Cat eye eyeliner, for example, does NOT work well with hooded eyelids. But my avatar can rock just about anything, and I do enjoy the flexibility of being able to do just that
  10. I've somehow managed to mess it up and have two sets of eyebrows. I've tried to reset it to the "factory basics", but it does not care to respond. I'm really bummed that I managed to bork something I spent that many Lindens on
  11. I actually did this before I started trying on my demo Lelutka heads. I got one of the demos down to pretty much "me" to the point where I even spent the Lindens for the full head. Unfortunately, when I started working with the real head and appliers/ makeup/ and whatever it all went downhill. For now it's still going to have to be system head. I'm not giving up; I'm just not sold on mesh heads entirely
  12. I've got some Genus demos, but I've hesitated with them (probably due to the grey look of the demos in the marketplace). I guess I need to get over that I can't find info if they're BOM compatible yet. I am revoltingly fond of my Adam N Eve skins; they're part of who I am in SL, so I'd like to stick with the look I've become accustomed to. Urrrrgh! Change is hard!
  13. As an old but newly-returned SL resident, the mesh learning curve has been real. I've popped in here and there over the past ten years of my (mostly) absence, but mesh never made much sense. That said, lots of my friends have the Maitreya Lara body and once I tried it, I was sold. I can wear skirts that don't then drop through my legs. Awesome! Now all I have to do is figure out how to make my Lelutka head look like me (I'm still rocking a system head, because NOTHING I do makes my Lelutka head's eyebrows look right... or the nose) and glare at the BOM tutorials until my eyes cross... but I'm feeling a bit more up-to-date at least
