  1. Yep, hinges and blown input mosfets/diodes are 99% of laptop repair. Sometimes people completely fry them by not replacing their power adapters soon enough when they get frayed and then shooting 19v up a sense pin too. Everything else usually just works, very rare to see failures outside of these.
  2. It's a plastic laptop, it *will* crack. Had enough of them over the years to know, it's aluminium bodied laptops or nothing now.
  3. In store? interesting, never seen that. As you say it's usually instantly refunded. I can kinda see the argument for it on MP but also not... just absorb the cost like most creators do, those 1L MP charges are a cost of doing business. Why do some people do the whole 1L and refund it thing? like couldn't the demo vendor just send the object or is there some advantage to use the whole 'sell' function?
  4. Would a 120fps (half monitor refresh) cap help maybe? Your video card is more than capable of a locked 120fps, I would say set the frame limiter in the Nvidia control panel rather than Firestorm since my experience is that it is broken.
  5. So often! why!? cute clothes ruined by this silliness. At least have the butt reveal be an option so the dress can be worn in places that aren't adult.
  6. Are you seeing chat from them directly or via a chat extender?
  7. That's right everyone, try your absolute best to get the thread locked.
  8. For what it's worth I have max complexity set to no limit, I think the default most people will be on is 350k though so you could still make it work. Definitely annoying though!
  9. Oh yeah, that did come up a while ago and yeah the prediction was that age verification would be necessary to pass the Google/Apple sniff test. Shame it's going to affect the entire grid now, I think I'd be totally fine with it if it only concerned mobile users but realistically how do you even achieve that.
  10. There's furore over the wording, specifically: "near to regions" with adult activity that has caused people to speak up since that severely limits where you can be.
  11. Any number of things. Blackmail is the obvious one. Remember the Ashley Madison leak? that ended a lot of relationships and even careers in some cases. It was highly sensitive information that was leaked out and while it was just adults hooking up it stands to reason that many people would rather their adult activities on the internet stay private.
  12. I see your point but I know I've been age verified by various firms (who themselves may source it from people like Experian) and I do wonder if they are holding data on what exactly the verification was for, as in what service was I requesting to use. It's a minefield, I think it's highly plausible there could be solid links made between leaked credit data and specific applications for adult services though.
  13. Experian had a giant data leak, handed out 15M records back in 2015: https://www.theguardian.com/business/2015/oct/01/experian-hack-t-mobile-credit-checks-personal-information Also had a leak from 2022, reported last year: https://krebsonsecurity.com/2023/01/experian-glitch-exposing-credit-files-lasted-47-days/ I don't trust these firms because they have little incentive to do better. Their business is credit reporting, not data security and even if they did care they will be providing data to third parties who you also have to trust to not be incompetent. It's a mess!
  14. For what it's worth all of these age verification schemes I have seen use a very opaque method but it has nothing to do with webcams or pictures of the applicant, in my experience. I could make guesses as to where these third parties are getting their data: public and semi-public financial records, electoral records, possibly even birth registers... it will vary country by country and in the cases where these firms are contracted out by government (UK for example where a single firm was contracted to perform age verification for a certain large adult website) you can probably assume their data sources are even less public, the absolute simplest and most reliable way of these firms operating is to give them some degree of access to electoral and tax records for example. I'm yet to find a single scheme that is utterly transparent about their method and of course that isn't expected since it is the special sauce that makes their business a business. It's going to be a disaster when these schemes leak data, some more than others given the differing sources/scopes but they will all leak since they're all in the business of age verification and not data security. They also all have high incentive to store data for future customers.
  15. Yeah, this is almost certainly in response to tightening legislation in the USA but also abroad. Of course LL could - for the moment anyway - just block or otherwise restrict access from those places but... well, that's a silly game to play. Still, some of the large internet smut sites are taking this approach so far which has had predictable results in the places affected. The internet is going to be strangled by very silly legislation and all because people seem to think it's an alternative to being an attentive parent. All I can see it achieving is inconveniencing adults who have become very accustomed to the internet being adult in general, I'm not overly sure it will achieve its aims at all but maybe on a platform like SL it does stand a chance. It will also undoubtedly push users away who don't want to jump through the hoops. I do have a lot less faith in the third parties you have mentioned and I can confidently predict that the inevitable data breach that *will* occur will be an explosive scandal in many countries. Privates lose data, it's what they do. Privates with nice cushy risk free government contracts especially.
  16. Really have to laugh about the mirrors. Sure, this is the 'right' way to do it, the modern way but mirrors would have been possible back in 2003 if they were just implemented, there have been various 'cheats' used by graphics programmers for a long time that would have provided a suitable result in the SL engine. The original Playstation and N64 managed to implement mirrors!
  17. That's fine, they're still selling a product. I'm not a professional retailer but I do sell things as well, I'm still required to deliver working products and even accept returns from my customers.
  18. Have demo'd things that work with rigging broken in the delivered, full priced product. In the case I'm thinking of it was fixed within a few days of contacting about it. I do demo but people still should not be expected to just suck it up if they notice a flaw after buying the full priced product.
  19. It's honestly ludicrous the stuff you find for sale in SL. I've found items years-old on the Marketplace that have glaring errors, missing sizes, broken rigging etc. and to be fair to the creators 9/10 a message has resulted in them sending me a fixed item but I have always been left wondering just how many they sold in a broken state until someone finally contacted them about it? Then the clearly untested content, there's a popular event running right now with a prominent creator selling something that simply does not fit a body it is listed as fitting. The size exists in the package, the item certainly is not actually made to fit the body even slightly though. At any one time there's probably many such items being sold, nobody seems to verify and I can only assume the creator knows yet also knows there's no such thing as a money back guarantee in SL. Of course some will also just flat out ignore contact. It's the whole "buyer beware" way that SL operates on that causes it. It doesn't even make legal sense, you do have consumer rights even when it comes to digital goods and I honestly cannot work out how this does not apply in SL. There is no such thing as buyer beware - legally speaking - in most of the countries LL operates in.
  20. So long as there's Bismuth I will enjoy it. Scientifically proven to be the best element.
  21. FTI Bunny Bar! https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/FTI-Bunny-Bar/23196280 Not just because it's made by my little friend but because it's very nicely made, animated with sound effects and it gradually disappears as you eat it... and then you get another from your pocket
  22. I have been demo'ing LaraX Flat stuff and 75% of it is terrible! like not even close to fitting the chest, almost like they've just taken a LaraX Petite item and awkwardly scaled it in Blender or something... like it would sit 2-3" away from the chest with a giant gap and breast shape still visible. There's a lot of junk around that's for sure.
  23. WTB: A viewer that lets us paint an alpha on any object including our own avatar. Just imagine... any clipping issue could be solved with a small selection of painting tools. The process of making an alpha the normal way is quite annoying, painstaking and not really logical given how the UV map actually fits any body. You can certainly do it and I have but the process is normally lengthy and annoying enough that I only do it for the stuff I really, really like yet has clipping issues.
  24. THANK YOU! Seeing this more and more now. It's so mean spirited, AVSitter is a fantastic project and one we should be very appreciative of - both as users and creators - and yet I'm seeing this more and more now. As you say it is a direct violation of the terms and arguably the products that are doing this should be removed from SL.
