  1. I will try rezzing on a prim and see what happens. EDITED: doggone autocorrect!
  2. What causes this? On the parcel that I'm in now, I keep getting this razzing error with different objects. I've tried switching my viewpoint, even looking directly down and placing the object at my feet. I've seen this in the past but this is the worst example of this problem I've seen. I've got around 50LI still available - and this error happened off and on even when I only had a few objects placed.
  3. LOL, maybe we need a Homeowners Association that can bug you if your fence is the wrong color or something (I would say, "Mailbox is the wrong style" but since most of the home types use a Mailbox as the controller, we all have the correct style). Seriously, anyone who has IRL lived in a neighborhood with one of those covenants, especially with picky types on the committee that oversees "compliance" can tell you that it can be a major headache. But seriously, I understand that there is an educational component to all this. Especially for those who are less familiar with the home styles (let's not forget the confusion over why the Chalets were called that but looked nothing like Swiss Chalets). Maybe there is a place for something like a Wiki where more detail can be shared about these home styles, and examples of things that go against theme (not to point fingers, just to educate). For example, an exterior shell that turns a Traditional into a Victorian (even though they existed and were sold in the Marketplace), wouldn't be considered in-theme for Traditional neighborhoods. As another example, gingerbread-style flourishes, even though not included in the Victorian models, would be an in-theme addition to those homes, because it is an accurate detail that was included on many Victorian homes in real life. A more detailed Wiki could also help with questions that tend to come up over and over. For example, Zooby baby, breedables, etc. There is an element of "not pushing the limits" that is also simply based on consideration, and unfortunately not everyone has a similar understanding of what that means, and why that is important in community. As a community, we can try to cultivate that understanding, but you can force others to be considerate. An extreme example is a neighbor I briefly had a while back in Logland, who had placed multiple nude "cardboard cutouts" on their lawn. I'll bet they thought that was really funny. Maybe they were pranking the previous resident of my house, or trying to get back at them for something. I didn't stay at that house for long.
  4. Those are all good possibilities. It may be in the adjoining region. But I am concerned about the possibility of a temp rezzer.
  5. So, the latest Newbrooke region I'm trying out was ok for the first day, and now the lag has gotten a lot worse. So, I'm poking around to see if I can find something that is impacting performance. A neighbor has a whole bunch of home furnishings that are showing zero land impact, including a linked kitchen! How can that be?
  6. I thought I'd wait a little while till Atkins Depot worked through the system. I'm on the "temporary coast" but for who knows how long.
  7. I love the fact that you can choose one of the smaller homes to put on a 1024 parcel. There were a couple of those that I actually liked.
  8. At least some of them are online now, I just got a home in Atkins Depot and just teleported there.
  9. Dang. Fixed it. But hey, it might have been even more interesting...
  10. Just. some observations based on the map... So these are the regions to look out for if you want a house on the water. Bear in mind that at this point, there only appears to be one river that might end up having access to open water, and that is in the southeast of the continent as it exists today, in the regions of Waxon Chapel and Muddy Run. The large lake in the southeast is in the regions of Punjab Highlands, Resolve, Home Grown, and Huygens. Most homes appear to be set back a little distance from the lake. There are two long lakes in the northern part of the continent: One is in the regions of Wandering Eyes and Spindizzy in the west, and the other in the regions of Coin Toss and All Yours in the east. East of the lakes in those regions, homes are typically no more than the second row away from the lake, but on the north and south western side of the lake, your home could be 4 or 5 houses away from the lake. Free Will and Coin Toss also border the big public area (we assume) at Newbank which includes a very large lake and an island. However, there may be fencing around the Newbank region, and if so, that may impede any lake views. Finally there are some areas with larger ponds/small lakes. These include Free Will, Potlatch, Horn Dog, Saraellen, Birdwing, and Clingmore Heights. In these regions, it is entirely possible that your assigned home will be nowhere near the water. Most regions appear to have at least a small pond or two and/or a pool/fountain water feature. Some of the regions with the least amount of water or water features include: Chevalier, Nine Lives, Portia Park, Phylliston, Happy Dance, Greasepaint, and Idle Hours. Some of these regions are currently on "the coast" since they are at the unfinished edge of the region.
  11. Don't trust the Magic 8 Ball. Clearly it has no regard for the truth, since it said that Newbrooke was going to be released a couple of weeks ago.
  12. Well, I rezzed a low LI Trompe home on my sky platform above my stilt and started sifting through my inventory and recent purchases to start to pull things together for a Newbrooke home. Here's my first stab at a living room area:
  13. Well, there are 1024 and 512 lots mixed in among each other, and the houses on the 512 lots are not that tiny, so that might be why you had that impression.
  14. Yes, when I had imagined modern, I was thinking of Malibu beach houses, and Trompe Loeil style homes in SL, with their great textures and combination of wood, glass, metal, concrete and stone. In comparison, the Newbrooke container homes felt somewhat bland and. uninspired. However, I've made my peace with the LL design decisions, pulled together a bunch of modern (virtual) home furnishings, and am impatient to start decorating a Newbrooke home.
  15. I think it's pretty obvious they are readying the next theme for a reveal/preview.
  16. And I have been spending the last few days trying to add items to my inventory that I'll want for decorating a Newbrooke. In the process, I have stumbled across some stores that are either new or new to me. Some of these have been recently participating in events. Many of these will not come up in the SL search, so I'm going to post them here for you. Most of them have contemporary and/or modern/minimalist furniture, some have contemporary with more of a shabby chic influence: Zanker: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Zaker/75/214/22 Sequel: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Mulberry Isle/58/158/3001 Avani: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/KraftWork/231/75/997 Llorison: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Cosmos/50/116/1652 Snooper's Attic: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Moonie/169/110/1752 Jane & Finch: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Valac/55/54/1000
  17. So this is just a reminder for newbies and those who are not yet members of the group, but at $L250, joining the Fancy Decor group is a good deal. Especially now, if you are looking for modern home furnishings for your future Newbrooke home. Just look at all the group gifts available. You could go a long way towards furnishing your new house just with these gifts!
  18. I feel now like its more likely that they're going to wait till the H&G Expo.
  19. I'm not a group member and I was able to get these items for free...
  20. Thanks for posting that, Nando. I'm not crazy about the cabinet texture, but maybe since it's got mod permissions something can be done about that. On the plus side, the burners "light" and the sink water "runs". One of the things that folks were concerned about with the Newbrooke layouts was lack of wall space for a kitchen (due to all the large windows) . One might be able to position this kitchen as freestanding.
  21. I find that I'm typically inspired by the forthcoming release of a new Linden home style and want to get things organized so I'm ready to get started decorating! It does make it easier to get started decorating a new home as there typically tends to be a dominant style I want to start with, and fill in with other pieces. I don't categorize bedroom furniture by style (instead by kind of furniture, ie beds, dressers, etc.) , and the dining stuff is mixed between style and table shape. And kitchens are sorted by configuration (modular, straight wall, or L-shape/U-shape).
  22. While waiting for the Newbrooke homes I've added a new category to my living room furniture section in my inventory...Modern. Mostly it was a matter of splitting off items from Contemporary with a few from Urban Rustic. So the way I define Modern vs. Contemporary is that Contemporary is the style that you'd see dominating most big box furniture showrooms in the US. It typically has softer lines and contains some classic elements. Some of Apple Fall's furniture and most of Brocante's furniture falls into this category, IMO, Modern, on the other hand, has more clean/stark lines, contrast, leather, stone, metal. Most of Architect's furniture and Black Wall's furniture falls into this category. Another term to describe what I'm calling Modern is Minimalist.
