  1. I’ve been using this and an auto refresh app on iOS, but haven’t gad it on around releases. Going to try today. Never get to the abandoned ones e in time
  2. One day not long ago I was walking down the streets in an area of new Linden Homes and saw that someone had a huge backdrop up in their backyard. 🙄
  3. I finally saw one come up today on auto-refresh -around 4:50 pm EST. Since it was the first time I'd seen one, I fumbled around and didn't go through the process quickly enough. It was gone by the time I had clicked the checkbox.
  4. Well I guess I am back here as the thread I created was derailed and subsequently closed
  5. Folks, I started this thread in an attempt to put forth a potential solution (or, an alternate approach). I was really trying to brainstorm constructively (no pun intended). As the OP, I’d like to ask other participants to continue in that vein.
  6. Luna-there is still the problem of people who work normal business hours in Western Hemisphere time zones mostly being shut out of this process.
  7. Thank you!!! Me personally, no. I am temporarily renting land. I am specifically interested in being part of the new Linden Homes community,
  8. Regarding the resources needed to get a lottery in place - coming from the perspective of a web developer, it’s not a huge project, signup located behind the login. There’s got to be a flag in the user database for premium users, so they are the only ones that see the page. Signup form for lottery sends user id to a db table of those participating in lottery. On release day the home info is imported into a dB table. Code picks up how many home entries are in table and how many people are in the entry dB table. A random number generator is run for x unique numbers which corresponds to number of available homes with the numbers falling into the range of number of entered users. Each selected number is matched to user id and notification is sent. Current process for recording Linden home selection is used to add home info to user dB. User is dropped from lottery dB table. I may have missed a step or generalized too much, but that’s basically what it takes.
  9. Seriously, after yet another release has passed by with most of us not getting a home.... Some things have become very clear, at least to me: In order to have any chance of getting a home, users (me included) are resorting to running auto-reload extensions. This can potentially put a load.on the SL web servers. I am surprised that this is even "unofficially" supported. How in any way is this a "good" solution? And even with doing the auto-reload, your chances of actually getting a home are slim. People have been reporting that they have started the process and by the time they get through it, the home is no longer available. Second, it appears that the releases are timed for what would be "normal" working hours for folks in the US time zones (which also would be much of Canada, Central America and South America). I don't think there are a lot of work environments out there where connecting on the network to the Second Life Website or running Second Life would be tolerated. Many people only have limited access to their own cellphones at work. So, the release strategy as it exists right now favors people who are either 1) not living in the Western Hemisphere or 2) Living in the Western Hemisphere but not working normal daytime business hours. I want to formally suggest a different release option be considered: a lottery. 1) Premium users sign up for the drawing for the type of. home they want (home, houseboat, camper, etc.) 2) When a new group of homes are released, a computer randomly assigns a user (from the pool of those signed up) to each new home. 3) User is notified and has a set time (48 hours? A week?) to claim their home. 4) if the home is unclaimed it goes in the inventory for the next release lottery. If a home is abandoned it goes into the next release lottery. 5) Users who did not claim their home will receive a notice after the time period for claiming the home, asking them whether or not they want to stay in the pool. If no response is received, they will be dumped from the pool and have to rejoin in order to get into the pool again. Now, wouldn't that be a lot more orderly? Wouldn't that option remove the disadvantage to working Western Hemisphere members? Wouldn't it diffuse a lot of the frustration that is building (no pun intended) over the release issues?
  10. I can only answer for myself but it’s the ease of having an already created home structure to be creative with; to not have to rent property; to have a covenant where virtual neighbors can’t get too crazy with their builds, to have as a home base an area where other users are active
  11. On Chrome it’s a browser extension; you can get stand- alone iOS apps. Key is to look for one that will alert when it sees a keyword added. Be be aware that even if you use one, your chances are still slim
  12. So since a lot of US member likely have regular working hours with reduced access to even a cell phone, they are at a disadvantage
  13. I was around when the earlier version was released, and there seemed to be more inventory overall. So you might not get your first choice of style or even theme but you typically could get something
  14. I would prefer a house but there are some nifty add-one for the houseboats that increase the square footage of “living” space
  15. Have any of these smaller releases happened in the evening hours in the US time zones?
  16. Maybe a winner should have to claim their home within a specific time period?
  17. Of course, to enter the lottery, you should have to already be a premium member and not currently have a Linden home. And there should be separate lotteries for houseboats and trailers and any other kind of specialty home. And I think that abandoned homes (as long as they are the new type) should go into the lottery inventory.
  18. Crud. I found a word triggered auto refresh for iOS but started it a bit too late. The idea of a lottery is looking better to me with every release. If you are a premium user, sign up to be included. Then each release assigns homes at random. As a web developer, I really am surprised LL went with a process that encourages people to constantly reload their web pages in order to succeed.
