They're offering their building services to someone wanting to build one.  I'm sure there are people who would be interested in such a place.

    It was a rhetorical question.

Rhetorical questions usually aren't seen on forums because forums are..you know..interactive.  They are usually meant to interject a thought that really doesn't need to be there.

They also created their account yesterday and are already savvy enough to know about the forums and decide of all topics to talk about to start one on fishing for L$.

    Definitely sounds suspicious.

Not really suspicious. No one had a problem with the one day old avatar who was savvy enough to find the forums and came looking for a nice girl to be his GF.

That is the root of racism.  Again, check your definition of what racism IS.  Therefore, she was NOT being racist.  How are you not understanding that?

Believing one race is superior.  Being antagonistic or derogatory based on race.  Discriminating based on race.

No where does in her post is she doing any of that.

Simply asking where the heck in SL black people hang out is NOT, and I repeat, NOt racist.

I have a feeling this wouldn't be such an issue if someone asked about Asians.  Another racial minority in SL.

I appreciate your opinion however, let's agree to disagree. I think she was being racist and you don't. Neither one of us is going to change each other's opinion. AND on that note that is all I will say about it.

Good luck with that since many people in SL do not want anyone to know who they really are. It's why they don't share anything from their real lives.

So what makes you think that they would be honest here on the forums?

the average black person's friend network is eight percent white, but the average white person's network is only one percent black. To put it another way: Blacks have ten times as many black friends as white friends. But white Americans have an astonishing 91 times as many white friends as black friends.

There are a number of factors driving these numbers. Simple population counts are one of them: There are more white people than black people in the United States, so it makes sense that the average American is going to have more white friends than black friends.

Another factor is our tendency to seek out and associate with people who are similar to us in any number of ways - religiously, politically, economically and, yes, racially, too. The polite term for this phenomenon is "sorting," and it affects everything from political polarization to income inequality to the racial differences in friend networks.

White avatars are NOT a minority in SL, Sam so again, if someone did ask where all the white people were, it would be to stir the pot.

And...she wasn't EXCLUDING anyone.  Sorting yes, discriminating or being racist, NO.

The polite word for racism is "sorting"?

Hi everyone!  I'm new to second life and so far, having a great time.  I was just wondering if anyone could help me find places where single people over 50 might hang out or any groups I could join.  I love hanging out with people who have similar life experience.  I do love the energy of the younger folks and have no trouble finding places they like.  Where are all you over 50 people hiding?!?  😃

Doesn't sound so great worded like that does it?  All the other groups mentioned are not races. Brits, Furry's, Women, Lesbian's, people over 50, people under 50, Brits that like mermaids, etc. It may be discriminatory but not racist.  It also should be mentioned that a person presenting as white female may indeed be a black male behind the avatar or someone that looks like a black male may actually be a white transgender female. That is why you need to go out and talk to people and find out who they really are.

  6. This may something you obviously checked but did you perhaps put them out somewhere on your land or someone's land? If they are no copy they wouldn't show in your inventory any longer until you picked them up.

I'm sorry to hear that because now I know something I'd rather wasn't true but it's staring me right in the face. Oh well.

Your cryptic message is confusing me. If you observe...I'm not the only one with this opinion so let's stop with the "your opinion is wrong" crap.

But isn't that what I'm also doing? Posting my opinions and thoughts on the situation? Interesting that it's somehow a problem to the extent of you quoting me openly just to jab at my opinion when I peek in and point out the hypocrisy in the room. 🤔

P.S. Missing the point entirely to state the obvious in a facetious way doesn't really help your case... It's making the issue into a race thing. Gender and sexual identity, age, and interests aren't races either but there's no harm in wanting to connect with people who share them with you. Why is it any different wanting to meet more people you have common ground in? I don't get why it's devolving into an argument.

Who's arguing :) I am just stating my opinion just as you are. I quoted you because you assume those that disagree are doing so just to create drama and stir the post and that simply is not true. it most certainly IS a race thing. I really don't see how you don't see that. She wants to hang out with people that are black. How is that not a race thing?

Some people just really like to stir the pot and create drama where there is none. 🥴

A forum is a place where people post opinions and thoughts.  Just because a person may have a differing opinion than yourself does not mean they are "stirring the pot or creating drama" :)

P.S. Furry and talking animals are not races. They are characters.

well my friend and i aren't black but we're always down to make actual friends here. if you wanna add me you can! we mostly just go to random places and mess around and try to talk to people and go shopping. it's not like you'll have the time of your life but it's something to do at least. i do understand what you mean though. i can't count how many times i've been in a voice sim and there's just constant use of the n-word because they're safe behind their computer. there's always someone that ruins the chill experience we're all trying to find here. so i can understand why you'd want to try to find like minded people and not have to deal with that BS.

Well...she specifically said she was looking for black people.  I cannot imagine how a post would go over if someone posted that they were looking to just hang out with white people. Probably not very well.

Telling people how to get around the rules is probably not a great idea.

I'm pretty sure people are smart enough here to figure that out on their own. My point was simply that your billing  address does not always indicate what state you live in.  However, that still doesn't tell LL where all the free accounts come from. The ones that have no billing information and address.

How would that change the billing address on your payment info on file?

So it's based on your billing address? Simple...change your payment source to a different billing address.  My daughter lives in CA. If I used her CC then it would show CA as my place of residence.  What about the people that don't have a billing address at all? You don't need a CC or billing information to have a SL account as far as I can remember.

operators of betting on games of skill  fall under the sports wagering laws.  Most US States require the betting operator  to obtain a license to operate from the State Gaming Authority. And some fewer States specifically exclude sports betting

in the early days of online poker rooms, some operators contested in court that poker was a game of skill, not a game of chance like roulette for example. The State legislatures responded to this by legislating the operation of wagering - created a State Gaming Authority

Linden have a list of US States that they block for this reason:

    http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Second_Life_Skill_Gaming_FAQ#Prohibited_states_and_countries

    Prohibited states and countries

Residents of the following states and countries may not participate in Skill Gaming in Second Life:

    • Arizona
    • Arkansas
    • Delaware
    • Florida
    • Kentucky
    • Louisiana
    • Maryland
    • Nevada
    • South Carolina
    • South Dakota
    • Tennessee

in these states it is illegal to place bets on sports - game of skill - (including betting on ourselves) with a unlicensed bookie

Pretty easy to get around using a VPN. AND before anyone says anything I'm just pointing it out. I realize it's probably against the TOS. :)

  14. Totally 80's is G Rated on a moderate rated sim. They even have a sign up that states even though they are on a moderate sim they are G-rated. This issue might be that you can only go to G-rated sims? Is that correct?

A shame that those clubs aren't able to change their rating from M to G if they are advertising as such.

some US States also ban wagering on games of skill. The SL skill gaming regions fall within these laws, and Linden make a good faith effort to identify residents from those states and block them from teleporting to SL skill gaming regions. Good faith as prescribed by those RL laws

That's fairly hard to believe. Do you have a link or anything that would reference this?
