I had a friend that was well liked by her many friends. She never hid the fact that she was sick in rl and would only get sicker. Eventually, she stopped logging in. After a year or so we decided the worst had happened, accepted it and moved on. No one doubted her sincerity, we all believe she really did die. After 3 years she's till dead. In another group I was in, the group owner was a total drama queen, threatening at least once a month that she was gonna quit the group. One day she logged in, claimed to be a close friend of the account owner and said that the account owner had died. Everyone in the group was devastated. They had memorials, built a statue, and tried to go on without her. Well, one day after a year she shows up again and says, oh I didn't die after all. People were shocked, but they actually welcomed her back into the group, to continue her role as drama queen. All I could say was "seriously?".

I had a friend that disappeared from second life. He didn't even show up in the groups he owned after he disappeared, and yet his groups still showed up in his profile. His widow was so upset, she ended up becoming a nun. His profile said he was an alt that was starting over, so everyone assumed he did it again, and is playing another incarnation. As others have said, people quit second life all the time. Without rl contact info to find out, you never have any way of knowing what happened to them. Like as not, they are playing on another account right now. So congratulations, there is absolutely nothing wrong with your group.

i never drive. i dont want to contribute to "man made global warming" by driving my old gas guzzler. i prefer to wait outside my place for one of the LL levitated cars to float by. i even put in a covered bus stop in case it rains.

Anyway to make lidens? legally?

Oh yes all those high paying jobs that get you 50 cents rl money an hour. You don't need any money to enjoy second life. I'll even give you 10 L to upload a profile picture if u don't have one, and you'll be all set. I'm sure you have some things u do in rl for entertainment that cost money. As someone else said, buy one less crapachino from starbucks and you'll have enough Lindens for a month -

Wow that transaction requires a level of trust I don't think I'd want to chance.

I thought Linden Homes were designed as a transitory "first step" of home/land ownership before going out into the big bad world and getting your own place. That's the reason they are ugly little boxes crammed side by side. Eventually you'll get tired of it and go build a "real house" somewhere else.

Regular threads usually get answered for a day or two, then die out. It's the derailed threads that end up going hot. Then a mod checks it out, reminds people to play nice, and the thread continues to grow. After another day or so, the mod locks the thread as being hopelessly off topic, and peace and calm reign in the forums again... until another thread gets derailed.

maybe clivesteel would be happy if LL made it illegal to charge more on rent than what the landowners pay in tier. then he'd have the lowest rent possible. any thoughs on what would happen if LL did that clivesteel? all these evil capitalist swine should be taught a lesson right? In Ayn Rands most excellent book Atlas Shrugged, a business man when informed at what price he could sell his product for protested that at that price he would't make any profit. He was told never you mind, we'll tell you if you can make any profit.

Personally I never heard of Laffer until that other person mentioned the name. All I ever said was that people's actions can be changed by any increase in taxes or fees. And like others have said, you don't notice 99 cents or $1.49, anyway. It's in the total cost off the transaction, so people's actions probably won't change and thus LL will generate more revenue from the fee increase.
-
They don't consider that since the fee is a flat rate instead of a percentage of lindens sold, that people will make fewer but larger purchases of Lindens. As so many people do, they assume people's actions will not change after a fee increase. Old fee: 99 cents times 1 purchase of 10,000 L per week generates $3.97 every 4 weeks new fee: $1.49 times 1 purchase of 40,000 L once every 4 weeks generates $1.49 every 4 weeks If enough people do this LL will make less money regardless of what Laffer says. If they want to increase revenue by raising the rate, they need to make the fee a percentage of Lindens bought, NOT a flat rate increase. THEN Laffer's effect will happen. Because, buy once a week, or once a month, the total fee after 4 weeks will be the same
