  1. I think there we're only 2, Playback FM and Radio Los Santos were classic hip-hop (for a virtual world set in 1992) and RLS was current west coast hip hop and rap
  2. Yelling at my terrible wifi adapter and being semi-active in a social island with cheesecurd
  3. Ive got SL set to use all 4 cores, real time priority. But when its running its using mainly Core 0 and maybe Core 1? It doesnt touch the other two. The Athlon 5350 is 4c/4t but not hyperthreaded like intel stuff is, the little kabini cores on their own are similar in performance to Conroe cores from the Core2Duo era of Intel. The 5350 is ~50% better in overall performance compared to a Core2duo E6400 at 2.13ghz which is a pretty even comparison of the two. So yeah, definitely compares to older tech, but AM1 is fairly new otherwise. DDR3 and SATA 3 and all that Jazz. I know the AM1 stuff is for light use, its what its original purpose was, office machines, streaming boxes, NAS systems, etc. But paired with a decent graphics card its definitely capable of light gaming, as shown by GTA V, CSGO and the variety of other games i play. All the above mentioned debug settings in SL dictate that SL should be using multiple threads, yet its just not utilizing it. Furthermore the bit that its using its not even maxing out, which is a bit disappointing, its a 19w processor, i dont care if its running at 100% 24/7, it should be using more of the 1 or 2 cores its utilizing. My power settings as well allow the CPU to be running at max performance all the time. Pics related at the bottom, priority and usage. For the slightly more unrelated things about AMD, this I also dont get. The whole "bunch of weak processors" debacle was true for the FX series processors, Bulldozer was trash and should've been scrapped on conception, but it still worked. AMD has had poor single core performance since they started all that. Early Sledgehammer and Newcastle chips were one of the things that made Intel frantically try and get better benchmark scores by bribing tech reviewers back in the Pentium 4 era. Which was hilarious tbh. But now AMD is back in competition in a few ways, the Zen architecture is blowing away Intels competing processors, Zen2 around the corner is probably going to do the same. Threadripper made their high end i7's and i9 chips look like single core celerons, and EPYC is absolutely demolishing the Intel monopoly on the server market, with a 16c EPYC leaving 20c+ Xeon Platinum chips in the dust. Same thing with the whole AMD vs Nvidia GPU thing, they've been about the same for a long time, ATI was just more popular with low end notebook graphics (2004, my Thinkpad T42 had an ATI Mobility 7500, very weak GPU) and thats where they got their repudiation on SL, since a lot of people were using laptops with these awful dedicated graphics chips in them and wondering why they couldnt play, "oh it must be because its ATI", because everyone with Nvidia was on desktop hardware that was perfectly capable of playing SL. Nowadays theres no difference, even going back multiple generations, Nvidia has generally had more powerful top of the line cards, but AMD has always been price to performance going back to the HD 4000 series. RX Vega now is even competing with the ultra high end Nvidia cards. Coffee Lake is also going to be an absolute flop, another generation of 1-5% performance increases and confusing Skews, Kaby Lake-X also seems like intel just flopping around trying to throw new stuff on the market to keep in the news. Have you seen the new dual core i3-7360X? A 112w processor on freaking x299? Retails for over 220$? 100mhz clock speed increase at almost twice the TDP as an i3-7350K (which was already a dumb chip on its own), on the HEDT platform designed for high end i7's and i9's.
  4. Yeah, Windows 8.1 and SL both use the 120gb SSD I keep most of my other games on the 5400rpm HDD since i dont care much about loading times in most games.
  5. Well i looked into this more, previously the body was partially mesh, it had been updated and now was full mesh. Gotta go buy new clothes, rip me.
  6. GTA V plays at 60fps normal in 1080p, the bottleneck is visible there since theres no performance difference from 720p to 1080p. CSGO performs better in 720p on all low, where i can push 90fps, but 60fps on medium/low in 1080p is optimal. SL shows the CPU bottleneck in that there is next to no performance difference between most settings that are GPU bound, no AA and 16x AA has no impact on FPS, i get ~30fps in places like Social Island instances, but ~10-15 in any place more complicated. So if im playing literal bare minimum settings 720p, i still get ~30fps. If i play absolute ultra settings in 1080p, i still get ~30fps. So my CPU is holding me back. Overclocking may or may not work, i have the ECS Kam1-l mini itx board, its one of the few that doesnt have a dedicated 4pin for CPU power, so i dont want to push anything crazy through the 24pin which already has everything else to deal with. I think the bios utilities would let me do some form of FSB overclocking, but on the stock cooler most people can only push 2.2-2.3ghz and that wont be much of an improvement over 2.05ghz. So a game that does use multiple cores, GTAV for example, can take advantage of a fairly budget quadcore to properly utilize it and keep things in balance with the GPU for the most part. The bottleneck is still there, as i said, no different from 720p normal to 1080p normal, but if i can do that on the Athlon, if SL was multicore i could easily get better FPS. But oh well, maybe in the future?
  7. I mean, i guess it fits "everything else", kinda? GTA V is drastically different from SL from the simple stuff like its graphics to the entire basis of its gameplay. SL is a virtual social world, you talk to people and do things. I guess GTA online is similar but more restricted. And i would say that on max settings, GTA V looks better than secondlife. Though thats really up to personal opinion, there are some great looking places in SL but theres still that whole obvious look of meshes and harsh edges. GTA V doesnt have that since its a prerendered world that was designed meticulously to look seamless.
  8. So ive got a terrible processor paired with a mid tier gpu, Athlon 5350 and a 750ti. Its a CPU bottleneck but in most games its not a big deal, i still push 60fps in GTA V, CSGO, etc all on decent settings in 1080p. SL however, the CPU bottleneck really shows. There is little to no performance difference between Ultra settings and the bare minimum. Turning off water and shaders gives a small boost but not much. This is definitely because the single core performance of this athlon is absolute trash and is on par with the average 6xxx series Core2Duo. Ive got SL set to top priority, allowing it to use all cores, power settings let max CPU usage occur, but SL never bumps above 24-25% of my CPU, obviously only using one core. Is there any way to get SL to use more than one core? Do any 3rd party viewers support multicore processing?
  9. I actually went and tested this just to see what number it wants in an empty sim, it would give me that message when im over 50k, anything lower and it said i would be rendered by everyone. But then in a populated social island, it told me that i may not be rendered when it was at 38k. Maybe its dependent on the lowest setting of a user in the sim unless its empty, at which point its set to a base of 50k?
  10. SL is still fairly demanding, and it has stayed at a similar level of graphical complexity in order to keep the majority of users who are on weaker machines in a state where they can play the game. There are a lot of people on SL still using integrated graphics and old Quadro NVS cards in laptops. Not everyone has a high end or even mid tier PC to play this game. Even the highest settings can make most mid tier machines struggle a bit in 1080p. SL is very dependent on CPU performance, even with a decent GPU if your processor isnt up to the task your performance will suffer. My machine can handle GTA V at High settings in 1080p and hold 60fps, but it sure as hell cant play SL over 25fps at generally High settings. And thats because of a weak processor. And just because there are people out there with Threadripper 1950x's and quad Titan XP setups doesnt mean theres any reason to advance SL's graphical and physics capabilities to better suit machines of those caliber. Next to nobody is going to be playing on those, and features that would take advantage of hardware like that would also require much beefier minimum requirements, which means less users can play which means less money for SL. And just because your internet connection is fast, does not mean its fast overseas. SL's servers are not in Australia, meaning any connection to SL you make is likely going over an ocean. Which means you will have incredibly high latency which will cause lag of all forms since SL is so network dependent.
  11. Right click your SecondLife application shortcut and go to "Properties", in the "Target" text bar put "-window" at the end of it. This will force it to start windowed. Most TV's have this issue because of how their firmware is designed for input changes, when it gets a full black screen its because it thinks the input is gone, it "resets" and sometimes gets stuck. Computer monitors generally dont have this issue because their firmware handles that change in input and will test to see if the input is still sending data. When you shut off the signal to a TV it doesnt bother checking again if signal is still going through.
  12. If you were playing fullscreen and exit the game back to desktop, it can cause resolution conflicts and stuff. Its a common issue with 10xx series Nvidia cards and a lot of games when using Windows. Usually just changing the screen resolution to something else and back to native again fixes but, its kind of inconvenient but better than a full restart. Try updating your geforce drivers if you havent in a while.
  13. Yes, and the alphas use to work on the mesh body just fine, but now for some reason dont.

    Laptop

Hit up ebay for a Thinkpad T420 with the i5 2540m and NVS 4200 will handle SL at max settings in 720p, those things are like 150-200$ tops. Other models like the T430/440 are similar in price but you lose the DGPU unless you want to pay a lot more, they'll still handle SL on integrated, just not as well as the NVS would. Used business laptops of any kind are a good budget pick, anything with a 2nd-4th gen i5/i7 in the Lenovo Thinkpad, Dell Latitude or HP Elitebook lineup will be fairly cheap and perform well, quadro NVS cards are a plus, but with newer stuff you can use the integrated. Alternatively, Newegg often has these cheap Acer Aspire laptops with GTX 940mx's in them, theyre 0/10 on the build quality chart but the hardware in them in fairly decent, theyre around 400-500$.
  15. So ive got a couple of clothing items from GiZZa and their alphas use to work, but they no longer work at all. Not on any avatar ive tried, they dont show up to anyone else either. Ive had to resort to body masking to get clothes to look right. Someone said it might be some kind of "priority" issue with other alphas, but my avatar alpha works fine and even with that one off, the clothing alphas dont work. Ive also tried editing the alpha, it didnt change anything. Anyone else experience an issue like this?
  16. Different types of people play the game for different reasons. There are definitely a lot of people who play the game as a sex simulator, but thats never been the focus. SL got that kind of reputation because it was really the first social MMO where something like that was even possible. Plenty of other large social games were around, but SL was the first where you could have more than RP textsex in it, and it was actually allowed too. The games not all about it, theres much more to SL, in the end its a glorified chatroom, but there are people who think its basically just a game for virtual sex. It really just come down to how you play the game and how you interact with people.
  17. It aint gonna die as long as its still profitable. We got other social games out there like Smallworlds that are still hanging on with like 500 daily users left.
  18. I noticed this happens sometimes, i use to think it was because the region was very populated and it must turn off to reduce lag or something, but sometimes it didnt work when it was just a few people there. I think its just a bit iffy and bugs out sometimes, usually i just went to a different Island, it usually worked if i went back an hour later or whatever.
  19. Try a full uninstall and reinstall first, if that doesnt fix the issue then try running SL as an administrator to give it elevated permissions to install updates. This happened to me several times on Windows 7 and it was simply the fact that SL was being blocked by windows when it tried to update. You shouldnt have anything to do with Windows XP and a legacy viewer.
  20. It'll run SL fine, the 7670 is a decent dgpu for the time and will easily handle secondlife on medium/high settings in 720p, or likely medium 1080p. Dont expect god tier performance on a mobile sandy bridge i5, its hitting that point where its gonna be fairly obsolete soon. But as a basic hyperthreaded dual core it will be fine with most light games like SL or CS:GO, Overwatch, etc.
  21. Just saying, SL runs smoothly for me on the high preset in 1080p, and all ive got is pic related. Its more than enough for SL, it aint that demanding. It also handles GTA V and some other older AAA's like BF3 very well. Dual xeons is gonna be way beyond wasted on SL. If youre looking for a new system to handle SL at its best, even in very high resolutions, something like an i5 6500, gtx 1060 and 8gb of ddr4 is great. An alternative on the red side is an R5 1500x and an RX 580 (though miners are kinda ruining GPU prices rn). You can also drop back a few generations to an i5 4460 + 760, FX 8300 + R9 270, etc. I use to play SL at general medium settings on a Core2duo E6700, gt 710, 3gb of ddr2 running windows xp.
  22. More of an inconvenience than anything, since pretty much everything that doesnt work can be accessed from the website. But i have no UI for the Profile, Destinations, Help, etc. It seems to be everything that normally requires a connection to a web browser. As things that are ingame only work just fine, like my appearance, inventory, world map, etc. So i have a feeling this is an issue with SL not wanting to interact with my browser, Firefox. Ive had this issue with a couple of things (Steam, mainly) and everything else that needs to use my web browser is able to do it just fine. SL isnt restricted from it, everything is set up to where SL should be able to connect to a browser, but it still wont. Not 100% sure why, anyone who's dealt with this issue; your input is appreciated. Specs wise its in the Pic, ive got 32 bit Xubuntu running on a separate HDD from my main one, since SL doesnt like 64 bit.
  23. It will be compatible, it just really wont perform that well at all. The chips SL lists as incompatible are simply things too weak to run SL. For example, ATi RAGE graphical processors died off in the late 90's, the Radeon 345m came out in 2002. But as i said previously, i would not buy that laptop if your goal is to play SL at a reasonable framerate, its not going to happen, its going to play like trash. Modern Intel integrated graphics chipsets like 610, 620 and 520 would perform better than the integrated R7 in that APU on that laptop.
  24. Everything is pink could also be related to texture misloading, pink or checkerboard pink/black being the default texture for any mesh. Which could be anything from an issue with your GPU on a hardware level, to broken drivers. Most often is actually an issue with local storage and cache. Its textures that the viewer thinks are in one location, but they have been either removed or broken some other way and because the client still thinks theyre there, it wont try and replace them, it just loads what it has. Which is why you would see some things but not others. And thats a very common thing for any network based game, it happens to a lot of things that pull texture resources from other places. Try clearing cache, wiping out everything SL if possible and doing a reinstall (sometimes just good to do that anyway), but you may also want to find either newer drivers or possible roll back to an older driver for your GPU. Thats a very old and very weak graphics card for SL, im running a cheap little GT 710 on my core2duo box and its just barely enough to keep me at stable framerates in 720p.
