  1. @Phorumites - 1L per parcel regardless of its size is a quite radical change, and leads to more radical change is implicit to this change that there will always be sufficient supply of available mainland parcels to residents. Mainland is a benefit of Premium membership. Implicit in this is that mainland residents have parcel tenure a connundrum for LL as the mainland estate owner is that they don't have the supply flexibility that a private estate owner has. A private estate owner manages supply by adding and removing regions from the grid. And sometimes forced repatriation of tenants. Example: An estate with 4 parcels per region, only 1 tenant on each. 3 of the tenants have to move should LL also do this then its quite a radical change. Should they not remove mainland regions in the same way private estates do then, while there is a glut of available mainland (like as at present) then everyone is happy. LL gets tiers, residents have ample choices to move to when they abandon. Lots of choices for new premium members also when the supply of available parcels is exhausted then LL add more mainland regions. Which is also great until the next downturn. Residents abandon and don't take up new positions. When the next downturn is severe (as the current one has been) then LL is stuck with even more masses of empty mainland regions as they have now basically what I am pointing out is that this a supply management problem and not an entry pricing problem
  2. i agree with the concept that a mainland parcel can/could have some tradeable value in itself. Will be interesting to see how the intended resident-to-resident auction system works out for residents. I hope it goes well
  3. hope you Demi will be ok and that all will be well
  4. this is what we get when a pharaoh-like entity makes a factual statement influenced by harvested foliage left as an offering in the temple, after the vestals have left for the evening
  5. true. Is just that LL didn't think it helped them to easily show to anyone how bad things were getting at the time about being able to pick up parcels from LL just by buying them without having to file a ticket, I agree with that
  6. it used to be that way. The LL mainland system would automatically set Abandoned mainland parcels (after 24 hours grace) for sale at 4L per sqm. Other than land sent to auction. It worked for them up until about 2008? as I remember. Parcels snapped up almost immediately. Good times for everyone Then the abandon rate started to out pace demand as LL private regions generation hit over drive. In about 2010? LL dropped the mainland price to 1L per sqm. It didn't stop the abandon rate. In About 2011/12? LL turned off automatically setting abandoned parcels for sale at IL per they LL did this as the World Map was showing deserts of yellow sand. For sale parcels show on the Map as yellow I would have to check Tyche's surveys for the exact dates of all this. But just before LL stopped automatic it was up over 20% of yellow linden-owned mainland desert sand for sale, and a bunch more auction land in color purple. Was a quite daunting visual of how badly things were going for LL at the time
  7. thanks yes @Chaser Zaks mention this in their code post. So is good to see that is confirmed by your observations i just add on here. This thread started out about is there a relation between SL sun and RL sun and if so then what might it be turns out No!. By confirmed observations of the team all working together. So well done everyone and through this we worked out what the model shape of the SL inworld is most likely to be so the last thing to ponder is: did the SL dev team design the SL inworld model first and then code it up ? or did they just code stuff up, and after 15 years doing it patch monkey style this is the shape you get when zillions of patch monkeys bang on pipes and keyboards nobody needs to answer this ok
  8. i use SL standard viewer and when I need to focus to get something done: in Preferences \ Chat I set everything to 'No Action' close the Conversations window and I am good the IMs and chat still come in, but as No Action then is no visual or sound indicator that they have been received i also turn on Do Not Disturb so as not to receive any stuff sent I also stand inside my 12x12m lock space on my parcel - Visibility Off and No Access. I can build on my main parcel when I need too but nobody can come into my locked space
  9. i would settle for people with missing menu button click fingers i think about this sometimes when with a click-happy person. Like sticking in a menu system which only comes at touch time intervals, and not immediately on touch
  10. @Chaser Zaks thanks yes, this confirms that the sun is at some constant Z relative to the observer
  11. hmm! my last is not quite right, based on the observation that the SL moon moves across the sky so then the moon (or not-the-moon as might be preferred) is in the center and contains the matter magnet. The sun orbits the moon inside the torus on a torus-like path. The torus rotates at a different rate to the sun orbit i think that would explain all the observations related by everyone so far
  12. i quote you (me I mean) again. As I thought about it now for more than a minute thinking about the SL moon if the torus was stationary and was tubular then it could have a matter magnet-like thing at its core. That would hold everything in place, including the sun and moon if we go with the sun as a moving point in the sky (position dependent on the observer on the torus surface) then the moon could be stationary in the center of the hole, held in place by the matter magnet of the torus (equally attracted on all sides) if so then the moon is at the center of the universe not the world. So not a secret planet, a moon. Or is the torus we live on, the moon. And what we think is the moon is the actual world And if so then the object (which we think is the moon but isn't, so not-the-moon) has the matter magnet in it and there is no matter magnet in the torus when so then we could stand on not-the-moon and not fall off in this case then not-the-moon is in the center. The sun orbits not-the-moon on a torus-like path, between not-the-moon and the torus. and the torus we live on doesn't move
  13. I have no idea at this minute how gravity might work when a torus-shape world is the center of the universe and every other spatial object moves in relation to it. Or even if gravity is the right way to describe it. Is interesting tho for sure
  14. am a bit suspicious of the SL moon. Sometimes it makes faces at me is true!
  15. agree and like @Prokofy Neva says the SL economic system is State Capitalism
  16. yes thats it when flat like a ribbon and observed from a distance, then X (East to West) would be 512km. And Y (North to South) be folded over and measure 256 km [on each side] it could be tubular on the Y as well the sun (as source of light) could still be a ring-like shape shining inwards only moving on the X. Or the ring sun is stationary and the torus world is moving or the sun can be viewed as a point in the sky shining only toward the world surface. Its motion measurable on the X. On the Y its at all points when observed from all world surface points. And is at some constant on the Z relative to the observer ps why I started to think about it was because EEP is coming. If we can set our own sun cycle and we had an estate of connected regions running East to West, then if the time was 0001 hours on the east edge of the east-most region, whats the time on the west edge of west-most region. When time is measured by the passage of the sun when we know this then we can set sunrise on each region accordingly
  17. thinking about it even more the SL world is a twisted torus, shaped so that the surface area is 512kms by 512kms, assuming positive numbers 1 to 2000 and a scale of 1:256 meters with 1000/1000 being at the centre when the surface is flattened when so then the SL sun is a ring threaded by the torus. A ring sun which only shines inwards i think edit add: yes this works the speed at which the ring sun travels is 512 km divided by 240 minutes. 2.13 kms a minute edit more tying this with Qie's theory that the SL sun is infinite and we apply this to the visual disk in the SL sky then in the field of real numbers the positions of the disk on the inside of the ring are infinite. Where ever we stand on the surface of the world the sun disk is always in the same position relative to where we are
  18. altho thinking more about the torus shape there could be 2 suns. 1 outside the torus, and 1 inside. And in the centre of the torus hole would be a secret planet. Ooo!
  19. i never knew that happened with the SL map. Thats pretty interesting if the SL world followed this then its shape would be a torus. Even more interesting! when so then Qie's theory of the SL sun being at an infinite distance begins to hold up
  20. suppose we go with the idea that the SL sun revolves around the SL world. Further suppose that the SL map is flat but the SL world is a cylinder apply this to Earth and Sol (sun chariot). Sol whizzes round the Earth in 1440 minutes. Sol is 149.6 million kms from Earth. Distance travelled by Sol in 1 orbit is about 940 million kms 940,000,000 divided by 1440 is approx. 652,800 kms a minute. brrrm! SL sun whizzes around in 240 minutes so the question. If the speed of SL sun is the same as Sol then how far away is SL sun to get around in 240 minutes ? 240 * 652,800 = 156,672,000 orbit circumference. Radius: 24.9 million kms approx., distance to SL sun is a tiny bit out if we factor in the diameter of the cylinders, but is close enough unless I can't count again and Nova goes erm!
  21. i did look at it from the flat earth perspective as well. I think though that the algorithm steps are the same. I am just not sure they are. I already got a input value wrong so I could be wrong on the steps as well
  22. @Nova Convair I felt there was something wrong with this. Couldn't see it and here you are. Thanks
  23. i was thinking about how far away is the SL sun. I know right! but yanno far away meaning relative to the distance between realworld earth and sun what I came up with follows - the earth rotates full circle in about 1440 minutes - earth radius is about 6.4 million kms - circumference then about 40 million kms - an earth peg on the surface at the equator travels 40 million / 1440, approx. 28kms per minute - the number of earth rotations in its orbit around the sun is approx. 365 - rotation distance by an earth peg at the equator is 365 * 40 million kms. 14,600 million kms - the distance from earth to sun (orbit radius) is approx. 149.6 million kms - the orbit distance (circumference) then about 940 million kms - unrolled the earth peg travels 14,600 * 940. 137,240,000 million kms in 1 earth orbit - when we divide this by the rotation speed 28 kms then scale 1:4,901,428,571 applying this to a SL region - a region rotates full circle in about 240 minutes (relative to the SL sun) - the diagonal of a region is about 0.362 kms. Radius half this - circumference then about 1.137 kms - a region peg on the surface at the region equator travels 1.137 / 240, 0.0047375 kms per minute - multiplying this by the earth scale then: 23,220,518 - dividing this by 1.137 gives us a region orbit around the SL sun of 20,422,619 kms - the radius of this (distance to SL sun) is approx: 3,250,360 kms i just wonder if there is an easier way to calculate this, or have I made a logical error and what I think is the answer is wrong ?
  24. libertarianism and nationalism are contradictions. Pick your favourite dictionary and look up the meanings of "nationalism" and "libertarianism" if you do want to describe your political viewpoint then there is a classical liberal to your immediate left, and a conservative authoritarian to your immediate right. Close to the same position as Donald Trump or google on keyword: "libertarian nationalism". The result is people blogging made-up nonsense. If this is you then oh! well. if tho you let the nonsense go then based on your chat you'd be to the left of Donald Trump. More toward classical liberal than conservative authoritarian. Altho given his own penchant for tweeting nonsense, Mr Trump would probably call you some kinda fake news lefty socialist, you being to the left of him and corn
