A custom avatar requires a 3D Mesh Artist. So a follow up question would be, how much would it cost to make an avatar look like my RL self? Lately I have bumped into many avatars who look very real people like and when I ask them they say that they had their avatar made to look like themselves in RL. I am wondering how much something like that would cost?

This insomnia crap is getting old. I truly looked at the clock every 15-30 minutes all freakin night. What a cute kitten! I don't know if the above 3 steps will help you fall asleep but the sheep are so darn adorable. Below are some real tips to help you sleep better! No TV or computer screens for at least an hour is a big help. Reading a book is great and avoiding caffeine after 12 noon helps too. Some people say a spoonful of honey or lemon juice helps sleep as well. I am sure others will have some tips as well:)

Nimue I think you bring up such a good question about how do you find friends in SL? The best advice for me to give you is just to explore sims that you like, and do activities you enjoy while in SL, and through this you will be able to find people who can become friends. Being open to IM's and sometimes taking a chance and IMing someone who you would like to meet is scary, but I still am convinced it is the best way for you to get to know friends. Good luck with your search and please realize there are others out there who feel the same way you do.
