  1. If you use Firestorm (no idea about others) you can save the shape directly to your computer as an XML file. It's an option on the Developer menu: Develop menu (Ctrl-Alt-Q) / Avatar / Character Tests / Appearance to XML That same file can be imported in the Appearance/Edit window and saved back as a shape. (doesn't cost anything either) Even better, you can write a script (as I was in the middle of doing after doing it manually in a text editor a few times, then found someone had already done it so grabbed theirs instead) that will combine a head shape from one XML file with a body shape from another XML file, save the new file and then it can be imported back to SL. Imagine how much annoying slider shifting that has saved me! Dr Frank is available free on GitHub somewhere, or you can just get it here for L$10. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Dr-Frank-Shape-Combiner/22345045
  2. Yes, I do like to do that, and it is exactly one of the decisions I'm making in the current build. Sometimes I've done that, on parts that I don't want to give their own face to, by extending the uv map for the part multiple times wider than the texture. Skirting boards and other long trim parts spring to mind. Everything you said makes sense to me. Thank you!
  3. Apologies that my knowledge on this is vague (and my memory isn't too good*). I seem to recall reading that multiple materials/faces on a mesh cause the viewer to have to split the mesh into multiple parts and render them separately... is that the case? If so, how much does it really matter in the grand scheme of rendering a scene? Is it a case of six materials, say, takes six times longer to render than one? Or is it insignificant? I'm making something that I could split into six materials, easily UV mapped for others to re-texture, or I could map the whole lot onto one complex UV map and a single material. That's not so nice for re-texturing. For supplied version I would still map the individual faces onto a single texture in-world to save texture memory and downloads; that's not the question. I guess those who really know the internals of viewers can answer this the best... Of course, I will do whatever the item (or rather its buyers) needs, but there are many cases where I could pick either because I'm making for myself. If a single material is much more efficient, I would go for that. *Not joking... I lost most of three days' memory the weekend before last, from Saturday to Monday evening. Only really recovered fully a few days ago. Yet another MRI scan is pending... unless I forget.
  4. Both of them are the same Caligula... ...and he originally made mesh mostly for the Aesthetic body (Enzo / Smith). Now branched out to a few others, mentioned in the adverts. Also in 'standard' sizing (Small/Medium etc) which will always need hiding of body parts to get a fit. Personally I've no experience of them, despite Aesthetic being my main body, because No Demo frequently means Poorly Made and I Don't Want You To Know Before I have Your Money. Even if it doesn't mean that, I think it shows poor customer service. I think there are better options around (even for the very old Aesthetic body) although Caligula is certainly prolific. Not many creators make for Aesthetic any more (not many did to begin with) so they probably sell a lot just because of the limited options. Here are some more free BOM alphas (Slink's originals that I remade when Slink closed): https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Slink-Free-Extra-Alphas-works-with-any-avatar/24509691 Note that the Aesthetic body is not BOM compatiable at all and never will be. Note also that you can often wear clothes without even wearing any body at all, just a head, as long as the neckline, wrists and ankles of the clothing cover the required parts. I do that all the time with Aesthetic and Gianni clothing when wearing formal suits, for instance. Saves render cost too. Trouble is, without a demo, you'll never know if that will work until you buy it. You probably will still need to have hands unless you are happy with system hands though, or wear gloves (again, I sometimes do, then I wear nothing at all from the body). Edit to add: Depending on what you are looking for, try Lapointe Bastchild, Utopia, Tori Torricelli, Val'more Corps, Toksik, AEC (a.k.a. Adam Edelstein, although I have some reservations about AEC despite that it can look terrific - demo very well before purchase!)... and lots more. you can find all of those on the MP (search the store name) and inworld.
  5. And the mirror portals should work for you now - I found the issue in my WIP experience scripts. By the way, if you aren't using advanced lighting etc, you're missing out on a lot in my place. Especially the mirror portals!
  6. Another vote for the above. I thought exactly the same when I read than our previous names will not be reallocated and can always be reverted to... by paying again.
  7. Mezzanine view - good for keeping an eye on the demonic goings on:
  8. Did someone say dungeon? This is my audience chamber; the side alcoves get a bit dungeony. Entrance view - well, after the entrance really. The actual entrance can be a little... surprising to wandering visitors:
  9. Wow - a Mad Men reference with Christina Hendricks! That just stole the show of the whole thread for me. Must watch it again...
  10. look in your "lost and found" folder in your inventory. You might need to log off and back on again for it to come back to your inventory too.
  11. Nine times out of ten if I've used boolean I need to add a trangulation modifier (with 'keep normals' if I've got any custom normals) at the end of the stack and turn off Blender's default export triangulation. Blender's default triangulation tends to lose custom normals and the SL importer cannot cope with holes at all; the modifier mostly works. And as @Kyrah Abattoir said, applying the stack and then tidying up is the best way to go. Even for just a simple beveled edge* (manually or by modifier) the resulting edges need manually fixing for UV mapping purposes or you get little jaggies in the corners. Those can be surprisingly noticeable in world depending on the textures. Edit: Can you guess what I've spent a good part of the morning doing to my latest creation?
  12. I think I get it now... something like this... nearly? (warning - adult forum thread)
  13. Thank you for putting it how I actually felt when I read Skylar Pancake's statement; my reply was rather restrained. I've hardly commented on the issue really, but that statement... well, it says all I need to know about their ethics.
  14. Being a Brit... there's a difference between keeping a stiff upper lip and putting up with things we shouldn't because 'it's not British to complain'. Far too much is allowed to go on here that is outrageous and should be shouted out about from every corner, because of that very confusion that's been programmed into (some of) us.
  15. To me that shows a very poor attitude from you. If one of your bots is popping into someone's house, they have a right to be annoyed about it and one person's justified, rather annoyed complaint is another's 'ranting and going off like a Karen'. Even if they are polite you only might be willing to help. There should be no question about it, you are in the wrong sending your agent into their house in the first place and you should do something about it regardless of the inconvenienced person's perceived manner. Edit to add: it's what is called 'professional conduct', something that seems to elude many people. Perhaps if that were less the case, there would be less drama around all of this.
  16. Yep - been happening for a while. Supposedly (for those who don't know) wearing mulitple items on one attach point is often blamed as a cause. Like all the rigged clothes that just attach to right hand because the creator was too lazy to attach them elsewhere before selling. I've never found that to be the case though as I always make sure to attach things sensibly in the first place, and still get missing parts. Sometimes almost my entire body and outfit is gone on TP. I've not seen any pattern; can happen to any of my alts or my wife's, and not depending on the outfit. Do other people see me with missing parts, I wonder? One day I'll have to ask someone. "Excuse me... can you see my head anywhere?". The glitch of the day though right now seems to be back to TP complete crash-outs for me, since last night and continuing this morning. Might try a router reset next time in case there's a bad router somewhere in the path.
  17. The request has been accepted. That's a start... https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-233720
  18. Well, my wife does Let me know if Cat wants the alpha layer I made for it.
  19. Hmm... I certainly understand the feeling. It seems half my LSL code at times is to check for and mitigate things that don't go as expected or suddenly take 30 seconds instead of a millisecond. I'm going to roll with it as is though (appropriate since it has wheels). So far, maybe a hundred automatic reconfigurations in the beta grid, premium sandbox and my home have all gone perfectly. There are about 50 mesh objects in the linkset, about half of which can be replaced at the press of a button, up to twelve at a time the way I've set the command HUD up. Do you mean the in-world numbering not matching the script-reported numbering? That is somewhat annoying at times.
  20. Do you mean on the MarketPlace? If so... Open an item's page that you want to add, on the right of the page is a link "Add to wishlist". To get your wishlist's link for sharing it with other people (you dould put it in your profile for instance) do this: At the top of the marketplace page, click "My Marketplace" and at the bottom of that menu click "My Wishlist". At the bottom of the wishlist page is "View and share your wishlist". Right click and copy the link - paste it where you want to share it. Edit: beaten to it with pictures too... got to be quick around here!
